In a leak posted by Weibo user Toshiaki, it looks like Vivo is working on the successor of their popular Vivo Xshot which was released last May 2014 and is still considered as having one of the best the smartphone cameras in the market.
In a post on his Weibo account, Toshiaki mentioned that the new device will come with a camera with a similar Phase-Detection autofocus technology as the iPhone 6 which will lead to a faster auto focus speed. According to Toshiaki, the autofocus speed of the new Vivo smartphone could match or even outpace the iPhone 6.
Since not many mobile cameras in the market come with support for Phase-Detection autofocus, there’s a large chance that the new Vivo smartphone could be using Sony’s recently released IMX230 camera which was released late last year. The IMX290 camera comes with a 21-megapixel sensor and a sensor size of 1/2.4 inches.
If the leaks are proven to be true, Vivo’s upcoming device will be the first smartphone from a Chinese manufacturer to use Phase-Detection autofocus on their device’s camera. There isn’t much else known about the new device other than what’s been posted but more information should be coming out soon.
