Meizu is one of the biggest and most popular Chinese manufacturers in the market along with companies like Xiaomi and OPPO but like them Meizu has yet to bring its products to North America. But that might change according Meizu’s VP, Li Nan.
According to Li Nan, the company is paying close attention to the market in the US as it starts moving away from purchasing phones from carriers to getting them unlocked. The Meizu VP stated that the company wants to sell directly to customers instead of through carriers which is what other Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi also want. While Li Nan didn’t really say that Meizu would be coming to the US anytime soon, we at least know that the company is considering it and that it will happen if the market changes to accept more unlocked devices.
Meizu recently launched the Pro 5 which replaces the company’s MX Pro line of smartphones. The Pro 5 features specifications similar to Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S6 including the same Exynos 7420 processor, Mali-T760 MP8 graphics, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The Pro 5 also features a 5.7-inch full HD 1080p Super AMOLED display, a 21-megapixel Sony IMX230 sensor rear camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3050mAh battery. The new device is priced at 2799 Yuan or around $440 if the company brings it to the US.
