Two months back the first stable build of Xiaomi’s insanely popular custom operating system MIUI 7 based on Android 4.4 Kitkat was released and since then MIUI fans across the globe have been impatiently waiting for an update hoping to get the taste of Android Lollipop on MIUI.
Yesterday we reported that the updated MIUI 7.1 will be rolled out to the devices worldwide starting January 5 and it is rolling out as we talk. But MIUI 7.1 is still based on Android 4.4 Kitkat, which comes as a major disappointment for those waiting for a Lollipop upgrade.
Xiaomi has released a list of devices that will be getting the MIUI 7.1 as OTA (Over The Air) update which are – Mi 3, Mi 4 , Mi Note, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2 / Prime, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3G and Mi Pad.
Other Xiaomi devices like Mi 4C, Mi Pad 2 are not on the list and we can expect the update rolling out to these devices in the near future.
MIUI 7.1 comes with some major improvements and bug fixes as well as performance optimizations. Some of the improvements are –
- File Explorer now supports hidden folders.
- A new image editing tool Doodle has been added.
- Mi Drop has been added for sharing files with nearby Xiaomi devices.
- Data saver function that help you save up to 50% data.
- Now you can choose from up to six data text sizes.
This update comes with a lot of optimizations and smoothness tweaks which you will experience when you use the updated MIUI 7.1.
For updating to MIUI 7.1 all you need to do is to open the Updater app and check for updates. If you can’t wait for OTA updates then you can head over to this official MIUI forum link and download the download package for your device.
So, are you disappointed to see MIUI 7.1 is still on Android 4.4?
