A month ago we had the full spec list of the Elephone P20 and as the name suggests, it will be powered by the Helio P20 SoC. The display will be a 5.5″ FHD bezel-less panel like the P9000 Edge and it will come with 6GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Among the specs we were impressed by the 12MP camera sensor with f/1.7 aperture.
We may not have camera samples from the device itself yet, but we will give you an idea what a smartphone camera with f/1.7 aperture can do. Below you can see photos taken with another smartphone and the results are just stunning. In the daylight photos the detail and colors are very close to those of a compact camera while the bokeh effect is pleasing to the eye.
While a large aperture is great for good light conditions, it’s even better in low light conditions as it can let more light in for the sensor to capture. This is obvious in the photos below as the detail level is very good and the noise level low. Of course, aperture is not enough by itself. The sensor quality must be good as well as the algorithms used on the software side. We hope Elephone has done a good job on that part and the Elephone P20 will be a budget-friendly camera phone.
