OPPO had an event today where it celebrated the fifth anniversary of its ColorOS operating system. As expected, the manufacturer bragged about its achievements including the number of users it has. However, the main part of the event was the unveiling of the next major version, ColorOS 6.0.

ColorOS 6.0

OPPO says ColorOS 6.0 is designed for borderless phones. While that doesn’t mean phones with bezels won’t get the update, it means that the experience will likely be different on phones like the Find X and other OPPO phones with minimal or no bezels.

In terms of the UI of ColorOS 6.0, OPPO has gone for a gradient color scheme. From the images shared by OPPO, the colors gravitate towards white from the top to the bottom. OPPO adds that the reason for using white is to create a sense of space so content doesn’t appear clustered.

OPPO Sans

ColorOS 6.0 also brings a new Chinese text font called OPPO Sans. The new font was developed in collaboration with local font designer, Hanyi.

There are also performance improvements. OPPO says a new feature called AI application quick freeze which prevents apps from being shut down in the background. Instead, the phone freezes the app. OPPO says the AI system studies the user’s app usage patterns for about 15 days and knows which apps should be frozen or not. With this new feature, OPPO claims overall power consumption should reduce by 7%.
