Following the launch of the Snapdragon 855+ yesterday, reports have surfaced about MediaTek‘s plan to launch a new mobile processor. The new processor which is called the Helio G90 will be the first of a new line of mobile gaming-focused chipsets.

A poster of the Helio G90 has leaked but it doesn’t reveal much other than the fact that it is targeted at mobile gaming. There are rumors it will be officially announced by the end of July, hopefully, more details will surface before then.

MediaTek Helio G90

We are also curious to know which manufacturers will adopt the Helio G90 which it launches. Xiaomi hasn’t announced a phone powered by a MediaTek processor this year. The Mi Play released last year was the last Xiaomi phone with an MTK chipset. Other big-name manufacturers like OPPO and Vivo have announced multiple phones with MediaTek chipsets, so one of them might be the first to announce an Helio G90-powered device.

Last month, MediaTek announced the Helio P65, an octa-core processor with Cortex-A75 and Cortex A55 cores, making it more powerful (CPU-only) than the Helio P60 and Helio P70. However, it comes with a less powerful GPU, doesn’t support UFS 2.1 storage like the P70, and only supports single-channel LPDDR4x RAM. On the plus side, the P65 has a better NPU than the P60 and P70.

The Helio P65 will make its debut in the Indian version of the Vivo S1 which is reported to launch in early August.
