Nubia has officially launched its new flagship Z9 smartphone at a conference in China tonight. The Nubia Z9 is the world’s first borderless smartphone.
Nubia Z9 features a body with a metal frame coupled with two 2.5D glass panels (front and rear). The whole device features a minimalist design that measures 147.38 x 68.34 x 8.94mm. As previously mentioned, the Z9 is the first smartphone to feature a true borderless design with its 5.2-inch 1080p custom Sharp LCD screen. The display features a black edge of only 0.8mm and uses the company’s patented Arc technology which refracts the light through the glass panel to achieve its borderless visual effect.
The borderless design of the Z9 has given birth to the company’s patented FIT (Frame Interactive) technology which lets users activate gesture-based commands by using the screen’s Arc edge. These gesture commands include answering a phone call, adjusting the volume, start an application, take a screenshot, start the camera, and many more.
On the inside, the Nubia Z9 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, a 2,900mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.1, MHL 3.0, and NFC. As for its RAM and internal storage, the Z9 will be available in three variants with different RAM and storage configurations – A Classic/Standard version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage as well as Elite and Exclusive Editions both of which come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The Nubia Z9 will run on Android 5.0 with Nubia UI 3.0 on top.
The Nubia Z9 is also equipped with an 8-megapixel 80-degree wide-angle Sony CMOS sensor front-facing camera and a 16-megapixel f/2.0 aperture rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization, 6-element optical lens, and a 1/2.6-inch CMOS sensor. The Z9’s cameras are backed up by Nubia’s NeoVision 5.1 professional camera interface. Additionally, the Z9 is also equipped with the company’s NeoSound 4.0 software coupled with an AKM4961 music chip which supports Hi-Fi audio and Dolby 7.1 surround sound.
Lastly, the Nubia Z9’s Exclusive edition comes with a new and unique design and feature – it is the world’s first button-less smartphone. The company has removed all physical buttons from the device and has replaced them with its patented TIO technology which replaces the power and volume buttons have now been replaced with fingerprint identification sensors.
