Information on the successor to the Cortex-A72 ARM CPU architecture has been unintentionally leaked by an ARM engineer working on the new architecture.

cortex-a72-processor-leak-01According to the leak, the next-generation Cortex-A72 currently holds the codename Ares and will feature improved FPU performance as well as feature significantly smaller 10nm cores. It’s also been reported that Ares-based cores will run on a power envelope of only 1-1.2W.

Ares-based CPUs will primarily be used for servers, laptops, and large tablets but the earliest we’ll see products that feature the new architecture will probably sometime in 2017 even if ARM is able to release the new technology as early as next year.
