The upcoming Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm isn’t expected to show up on devices until sometime early next year but an unknown Samsung smartphone was spotted on the AnTuTu Benchmark database sporting the unreleased processor.
The device, codenamed Lucky, not only features a Snapdragon 820 processor but it also comes with an Adreno 530 GPU which is what the Snapdragon 820 is expected to be coupled with. It also features a 5.7-inch display with a screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and runs Android 5.1.1.
It isn’t surprising that companies like Samsung have already started testing the new processor on their upcoming devices as it usually takes time for manufacturers to optimize all of the device’s components including the processor.
Additionally, benchmark scores comparing the Snapdragon 820 against Samsung’s Exynos 7420 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 were also spotted. In the benchmark, the Exynos 7420 had the highest multi-core performance score of 72355 with its eight cores versus a score of 65775 for the Snapdragon 820 and its four cores. But when it came to 3D and single core performance, the newer Snapdragon 820 outpaced the Exynos 7420 with scores of 23597 and 3481 versus 20964 and 2149, respectively.
