The Symetium Is a Smartphone PC With 6GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 820

by Martin 9

Trying to make smartphones as usable as desktop PCs is something that developers and manufacturers have attempted and failed at countless of times but it looks like Sweden-based Symetium may have found the solution to the age-old conundrum.

symetium-indiegogo-01The Symetium is, according to the folks behind it, a “no-compromise smartphone PC” that features high-end specifications and can act as a PC when docked. The Symetium achieves this by being able to connect to multiple screen or monitors at once but instead of just mirroring the phone’s display a completely different interface will be streamed on the larger displays while the smartphone display can still be used separately. The smartphone can also be used as a keyboard and mouse combination in this mode if and when a separate keyboard or mouse is unavailable.

The Symetium will run on a custom operating system based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow which will enable it to accomplish all its features including the aforementioned PC mode. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 6GB of RAM, and a large 4000mAh battery. It will be available in three different storage capacities including 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB with the option to expand the storage by an additional 128GB via microSD card.

It will also be equipped with a 5-inch full HD 1080p OLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 4, a 24-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a USB Type-C connector that will work with the included docking station to enable it to use its PC mode.

According to the project’s IndieGoGo campaign, the group needs to raise $1.25-million in 38 days (as of this writing) to be able to go ahead and produce the Symetium. The campaign offers the smartphone for $499 for the 64GB variant but only for a limited number of backers otherwise it is priced at $699 for the 64 GB model, $799 for the 128 GB one, and $999 for the 256 GB variant. If successfully funded, the group says the device will start shipping sometime in July of 2016.

What do you think you pay for an iphone or galaxy with a carrier?? Atleast 1200 dollars. This phone has atleast alot more functions with marshmallow and with SD820 everything is going to be as smooth as a babys butt 😛

Only 5 inch for a phone that supposedly is to act like a pc ?

    • this is a desktopable smartphone..
personally i prefer 5inch… point is your stuff(data, media, personal files) stays with you..

when you plug in the screen with hdmi (that samsung already has- thanks to snapdragon chip) or as they say plug to the dock, then you have a second launcher for a full big screen tv – wow – new technology. haaaaaaa

    go cheat some else

by june 2016, sd820 will have great competition, so you will get it for cheap.
intel new chip kills sd810 and it can run win10 and android
if you want, you can create a launcher that if it recognize an hdmi connection, it changes the launcher to a second launcher.

now give me 1.2 million dollar.

I can smell a rat here. But I am sure a lot of naive people will put some money because it sounds appealing !

  • This sounds like too good to be true project. I don’t believe they are going to succeed the campaign. And if they do, the phone will most likely be shipped like in 2017. This is my experience with all Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns, all the projects are just so late!

It will be finished with this write up. Nothing else. Raising $1.25-million in 38 days would not impossible for them
