UMI officially announced the Rome yesterday, a new flagship device with high-end specifications but priced at less than $100.
The Rome features a 5.5-inch HD 720p AMOLED display protected by a panel of 2.5D curved glass. More and more companies have begun adapting AMOLED displays in their flagship smartphones as the display panel type has proven to be more power efficient as well as producing richer colors and deeper blacks when compared to regular IPS LCD panels. AMOLED displays are also marginally thinner than IPS LCD panels which has helped the company reduce the thickness of the Rome to only around 7.9mm.
The Rome also features a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core CPU clocked at 1.3GHz which is coupled with 3GB of RAM both of which are specifications usually found on other flagship devices. The Rome is also equipped with 16GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX164 sensor and a dual LED flash, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera coupled with an LED flash for selfie lovers, and a 2500mAh battery. The Rome comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed.
As previously mentioned, UMI has kept the price of the Rome at below $100 or more specifically only $89.99 making it one of the most affordable flagship smartphones. The company has announced that the Rome will go on sale sometime in December.
