Gionee Unveils S8 Flagship With All-Metal Design and Force Touch Display

Gionee has officially unveiled its 2016 flagship smartphone, the S8, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The new device comes with several features never before seen from Gionee smartphones including an all-metal design, a new Marshmallow-based operating system, as well as a Force Touch display.

gionee-s8-launched-01The S8 is the first of Gionee’s smartphones to run the company’s latest Amigo 3.2 operating system, the first to be based on Android Marshmallow. The new OS now comes with the company’s recently released global SIM roaming service, which we first saw on the Marathon M5 Plus, built-in. As for the Force Touch display, it will currently work with Gionee’s stock apps and the company is working on adding functionality to more apps before the device’s release.

The rest of the new flagship’s features and specifications include a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p AMOLED display protected by a layer of 2.5D curved glass, a MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, LTE Cat6 connectivity, and a home-button fingerprint sensor. It’s also equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera with PDAF coupled with a laser autofocus system and a 3000mAh battery,

The Gionee S8 is scheduled to be officially released sometime near the end of March with a price tag of around 450 Euros.
