Xiaomi is actively working on the next version of its MIUI ROM and in a question and answer session with its product manager, @Little Lulu Mima, we learnt about new features coming to MIUI 9.

In terms of optimisation, MIUI 9 will have a simpler UI compared to previous versions. There will also be improvements in performance and reduction in power consumption and by heating. We’ve also been asked to look forward to seeing a screen recording function in the new ROM.

In other news, Xiaomi India posted on twitter that they are currently looking for Xiaomi Mi 5 owners who are willing to be alpha testers for MIUI 8 based on Android Nougat.

The major requirement is that you own a Mi 5. However it is testers for the China ROM they currently require but if you’re willing to wait, recruitment for testers for the Global ROM begins next week. You can check here for more details.
