UMi gives us 6 reasons why UMi Z is worth buying

by Dimitris Economou 6

Some  people want their device to be beautiful. Others, don’t care about design, only for raw power. Some, prefer a good camera over battery life and finally, some want it all. Well, it seems that the UMi Z has all features in a perfectly balanced package. Let’s see what UMi has to say about its latest flagship.

UMi Z

UMi Z steps up your game with the Helio X27 which increases performance and being power efficient

The UMi Z is an impressive handset, dressed in metal and sporting a 5.5″ display with impressively thin side bezels on the front. The SHARP-made panel has a 1080p resolution and its colors can be fine-tuned to the user’s liking thanks to MediaTek’s MiraVision technology. MediaTek also provides the Helio X27 SoC that powers the UMi Z. It continues to employ 10 processor cores, split into three different clusters — each designed to work under different loads. This way, the phone is easy on the battery consumption when doing light tasks, but can turn the performance up if necessary. The maximum clock speed the Helio X27 is capable of is 2.6 GHz, whereas it’s “light load” cluster works at 1.6 GHz.

Apart from the CPU, there is also 4GB RAM and 32GB eMMC 5.1 fast internal storage by Samsung. If this looks like it’s not enough, the device supports microSD cards of up to 256 GB for storage expansion.

Dual ISP dual mode 13MP Camera delivers top-tier photo and video capture

UMi Z

Both cameras sport 13MP Samsung sensors, which means that your selfies will be turning out as good as your landscape shots with the main snapper. The rear camera uses both laser autofocus and PDAF for fast and reliable snaps. Additionally, the selfie camera has a soft light to enhance your selfies, while the flash on the back features a quad LED setup for more light and warmer, more color-accurate shots during the night.

Full Metal unibody to have it please to the eyes and hands

UMi Z follows Bauhaus principle in its design and manufacturing process. The principle is simple: According to UMi, they put user experience above all matters, while aesthetic is unfolded in details of usability and crafting. Their aim is not just to make a powerful phone, but a functional piece of art as seen on the video below.

For the first time ever, UMi released a full metal body, with only the two thin antenna lines in plastic for signal reception, just like the most famous flagships on the market like iPhone 7, Meizu, etc. Having a full metal body will mean having an uniformity of colors and materials which is impossible to get when using plastic parts.

3780 mAh big battery for a day and beyond usage at just 8.2mm slim

The battery that keeps all the lights on is also a piece of the puzzle. Made by Sony, the cell holds 3,780mAh of charge, which combined with the Helio’s promised power-saving capabilities, should last an average user quite a while. Dare we say two days?

Pure Android Version

UMi Z

Certainly not least on the list, we have the operating system on board. The UMi Z ships with “pure” Android 6 Marshmallow installed — this means no heavy re-skins and no plethora of system-bogging features. UMi promises that the handset will get the Android 7 Nougat in the next few months via an OTA update.

UMi Z is offering $60 Off at Presale

The UMi Z is currently up for pre-sale on a few websites for $219.99 (links below). The manufacturer says that shipments will start before the 25th of January. When the phone is officially out, its price will be around $279.99. Of course, shipping and taxes may apply, depending on where on the planet you live. You can get it from Gearbest, Banggood, Coolicool and TomTop.

why do i have the feeling that Z’s camera is going to be the WORST SHIT EVER ?

6 Reasons to buy the Umi Z:
    1. The kernel and ROM aren’t open sourced so good luck waiting for any updates
    2. Dual cameras with shitty software will make the pictures too smudged, dark and blurry
    3. Full metal with thoughtless design, which will make the speaker mic very quiet, not to mention the crappy Wi-Fi/GPS reception
    4. Big battery with no optimization so it won’t last for long
    5. “Pure” Android because Umi devs are too stupid to make something good themselves and to fix any bugs which may occur.
    6. They offer a discount because it’s already priced ridiculously high for them
Verdict: the phone is a piece of crap

Dual camera is only on Umi z pro. I already talked to one of my contacts in China. He bought one of the first devices. Build quality seems to be top notch.

Construction and Hardware may even be good, but Firmware development is rubbish. The
UMI Max and UMI Plus E only come with bugs and they do not solve them, or
they solve some and others appear, the developers are junk and customer support does not exist …
