Xiaomi has just officially announced that their next and highly anticipated flagship the Mi 6 will be launched next week on April 19, finally confirming many previous rumors about the device’s release.
But another rumor that has now come out in the wake of the announcement is that Xiaomi may have omitted fingerprint reading functionality on the Mi 6’s home button and have replaced it with the ability to sense gestures.
Gesture support for physical home buttons isn’t something new for smartphones as other manufacturers, namely Meizu and Smartisan, have also featured home button with gesture support on their smartphones.
Whether the feature will become mainstream and standard for high-end smartphones is yet to be seen though, especially since several manufacturers this year, such as Samsung and LG, have ditched the physical home button altogether in favor of larger displays.
Nonetheless, the launch of the Mi 6 is incredibly exciting as it is only one of two smartphones that will first feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor.
