Chinese food delivery platform Ele.me has unveiled a new solution for delivering food inside office buildings. The new concept is designed to resolve the “last mile” problem in the process of delivering food, which is a big problem in busy business offices and buildings.
The system was unveiled at the Hongqiao Vanke Center, an Office in Shanghai. The company said the initiative is part of its “future logistics” plan that aims to replace its human courier network with automation technologies within three to five years.
The food delivery robots will be set to deliver packages throughout the office building whilst notifying recipients along the way. Each robot is designed to carry up to three meals at a time with a maximum operating time of eight hours between charging.
Ele.me hopes to expand its trial of the new concept to more Shanghai Vanke buildings in the future.
