The camera is the field where most smartphone manufacturers compete for the time being as the rest of the hardware has made big advancements over the last years. To cope with the small-sized sensors that limit the capabilities, manufacturers add extra sensors to try to improve photo quality and offer DSLR-like features. A perfect example of that is Apple that added an extra sensor on the back to offer optical zoom and Bokeh effect.
While the implementation is pretty good, it only offers 2x optical zoom. And if someone expected an improvement to come from a big company like Samsung, Sony, Huawei, etc, the surprise comes from Blackview that demonstrates a 5x optical zoom using only a single sensor! In information given by the company, we can see a comparison of the company’s system against iPhone 7 Plus from various distances. Although the lens system allows for 5x optical zoom, Blackview has managed to maintain a relatively small size. Also, it will be able to offer Bokeh effect from a single sensor in the likes of Google’s Pixel. The system will be introduced in a rugged device currently being developed and is expected to be released in May.
Blackview will be attending the Mobile Electronics Global Sources show in Hong Kong from April 18th to April 21st where it is expected to showcase the new system that allows for 5x optical zoom. If you want to witness it before everyone else, you can pay them a visit on Hall 7, Booth No. 7J18. Below, you can see the comparison against the iPhone 7 Plus as well as a small video on how the system works.
