Honor has announced the Kirin 980 powered Honor V20 is the budget-friendly flagship phone. It sports a punch hole display like the Huawei Nova 4 and its packed with various other advanced features 48-megapixel camera, 25-megapixel screen camera and Link Turbo technology. The Honor V20 has been introduced with a starting price of 2,999 Yuan (~$435).
Design and Display
The Honor V20 boasts a premium appeal thanks to metal and glass combination design. It is the first V-series phone from the company to sport 3D glass with V-shaped texture which appears prominent when light reflects on it. The front camera is no longer present on the top bezel of the smartphone. It is now placed under the display at the top-left corner. The screen camera occupies only a small space since it measures only 4.5mm in diameter. This has allowed the phone to sport slimmer bezels around the display except for the bottom one which is slightly thick.
A 6.4-inch IPS LCD screen that supports 2310 x 1080 pixels full HD+ resolution is present on the device. The screen delivers a screen-to-body ratio of 91.82 percent and a pixel density of 382 ppi.
Chipset, RAM and Battery
The powerful 7nmm Kirin 980 chipset is the driving force of the Honor V20 flagship phone. It is supported by up to 8 GB of RAM. For storage, the handset offers an inbuilt storage of up to 256 GB. There is no microSD card slot on the device.
The 4,000mAh of the Honor V20 is equipped with support for 4.5V/5A rapid charging. The Android 9.0 Pie OS that is flavored with EMUI 9.0 UI comes preinstalled on the Honor V20. The handset includes the YOYO AI smart assistant that was announced first with Honor Magic 2 smartphone in November.
The Honor V20 also features GPU Turbo technology for accelerated GPU performance. The Chinese manufacturer claims that the GPU performance of the Honor V20 is 20 times better than mainstream smartphones. The NINE liquid cooling system offers comprehensive heat dissipation for core heating sources of different components for camera, CPU and charging IC.
Tell Labs, a recognized mobile certification body that has developed a set of tests for game interactions, screen technology, lag-free performance, heat dissipation and endurance. The Honor V20 not only performed well in Tell Labs tests, but also acquired 5-star certification. Hence, Honor claims that the Honor V20 powered with cloud computer solution can deliver 10 times better gaming experience than PC. In fact, the Honor V20 can be turned into a super computer by connecting a large display, a mouse and a keyboard.
Cameras and Other Features
The Honor V20 has a unique horizontal arrangement for its dual camera setup which includes Sony IMX586 48-megapixel primary sensor and a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) stereo lens.
The 48-megapixel AI Ultra Clear primary sensor that is assisted by powerful image processing capabilities of the dual NPU unit of the Kirin 980 can capture even better shots with AI HDR. It also carries support for AIS handheld super night view mode, super slow-motion HD quality video recording at 960 fps and 4-into-1 pixel binding technology.
There is a 3D ToF can be used for Augmented Reality (AR) which brings support for depth measurement, bone recognition, motion capture, 3D body shaping and 3D somatosensory games on the Honor V20. The 3D ToF lens can let YOYO assistant to perform real-time dance steps performed by the user. It can also create 3D characters that can mimic the actions of the user. At the front is an AI powered selfie camera of 25-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture.
For accurate GPU positioning, the Honor V20 comes equipped with dual-band GPS technology. Moreover, the Link Turbo technology that aggregates LTE and Wi-Fi connections offers uninterrupted internet connectivity on Honor V20. The connectivity features available on the V20 are dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and USB-C.
Honor V20 Pricing and Availability

The Honor V20 can be bought in colors like Magic Night Black, Charm Blue Sear and Charm Red. The pre-orders of the Honor V20 will be carried until tomorrow and its first sale will take placed on Dec. 28 at 10:08 AM (local time).
The Chinese manufacturer has partnered with Italian luxury brand MOSCHINO to release customized Phantom Blue and Phantom Red editions of the Honor V20 MOSCHINO edition. It comes with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. The special edition model of V20 is priced at 3,999 Yuan (~$579). The first sale of the Honor V20 MOSCHINO edition will begin on Dec. 28 at 10:08 AM (local time).
The Honor V20 will be unveiled as Honor View 20 on Jan. 22 in Paris, France. The View 20 is also expected to debut in India in January.
