Counterpoint Research, a research and statistical analysis firm has published a report revealing the top 10 bestselling smartphones in the Chinese market for the year 2018. Surprisingly, Oppo emerged as the leading smartphone brand having five of its smartphones in the top 10 list.

The report shows that the company’s flagship smartphone — Oppo R15 was the bestselling smartphone in China for the year 2018 — taking the pole position. It was followed by Apple iPhone X in the second spot.

The third, fourth and fifth spot were occupied by Oppo A5, Oppo A83, and Vivo X21. Following them were Apple iPhone 8 Plus, Vivo Y85, Oppo A72, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, and Oppo R11s for the sixth to tenth position.

As for the international markets, the top 10 bestselling smartphones were Apple iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, Xiaomi Redmi 5A, Samsung Galaxy S9, Apple iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and Samsung J6.

However, it’s surprising to see that none of the Huawei or Honor smartphones made it to the list of Counterpoint’s bestselling smartphones. This is quite odd given that Huawei is currently dominating the Chinese smartphone market.

Bestselling Smartphones Globally

According to the Counterpoint report, the sales of the previous generation iPhone models totaled around 100 million units while the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR sold over 16 million units each. It also adds that Redmi 5A added 20 million units to Xiaomi’s shipments

Coming to Huawei — the company that didn’t make it in the list is said to have sold more than 13 million units of Huawei P20 Lite smartphone. However, the report doesn’t reveal which position it holds in terms of rankings of bestselling phones in 2018.
