While we really still don’t know that much about HongMeng OS as of right now, we’re still hearing about it a lot. The latest bit of news regarding Huawei‘s upcoming OS comes straight from StrategyAnalytics. According to them, Huawei’s latest efforts in Hongmeng OS will undermine Android’s absolute dominance over the smarphone market, especially in China.
There’s also a small mention of iOS dipping slightly this year, and stabilizing by 2020, but Huawei is mainly the focus here. It’s quite fascinating to see that analysts think HongMeng OS will be big enough to even make a dent on Android. We’ve heard so much news about HongMeng OS, that it’s ludicrous how we’ve yet to see any clear leaks of it.
This really adds some suspense and anticipation as to what the future holds for Google’s Android. We’ve always seen the act of making an Android alternative to be kind of pointless. Now we’re not just hearing otherwise, we’re actually seeing an actual challenge for Google. This truly one of the most interesting developments we’ve seen in the mobile market.
Now, we say this, but chances are Android will be perfectly fine after this. The actual chances of Hongmeng harming Android’s profitability is absolutely tiny, even if they affect Google’s marketshare. The sheer possibility of it happening however is terrifying, and could really completely shake up the market the same way Android did so many years ago. For now however, we’ll have to wait until HDC 2019 to find out more about Hongmeng OS.
