Redmi has unveiled the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 today through a launch event in China. These phones have arrived with beefed up specs compared to the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro phones that were unveiled earlier this year. The main USP of the Redmi Note 8 series is that it is equipped with four rear-mounted cameras. Moreover, the Redmi Note 8 has debuted as the world’s first smartphone with 64-megapixel camera. On the other side, the Redmi Note 8 is blessed with the popular 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 lens.

Redmi Note 8 Pro Specifications and Features

The Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with an IP52 splash resistant body. The smartphone is equipped with a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with waterdrop notch. It supports full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The TUV Rheinland certification for the display ensures that it filters the harmful blue rays. The front and rear sides of the phone is safeguarded by Gorilla Glass 5 panels. With reduced chin, the Redmi Note 8 Pro offers a screen space of 91.4 percent.

The MediaTek Helio G90T processor fuels the Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone. The smartphone comes in 6 GB and 8 GB RAM editions. The handset comes in storage options like 64 GB and 128 GB A dedicated microSD card slot is available on the device for more storage.

The upper half of the rear shell of the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a vertical camera system that includes three lenses and a fourth sensor with LED flash placed alongside it. The quad camera setup includes an f/1.7 aperture 64-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GW1 as primary lens, an ultrawide lens of 8-megapixel, a 2-megapixel macro lens with 2cm focal length and a depth sensor of 2-megapixel. The mains lens that has a large pixel size of 1.6micron can capture high resolution images of 9248 x 6936 pixels. The Note 8 Pro can shoot 960fps slow motion videos. The front notch of the phone has a 20-megapixel selfie camera.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro has a 4,500mAh battery that carries support for 18W rapid charging. The Note 8 Pro also comes with liquid cooling technology which can be found in popular gaming smartphones. The antennas of the phone are arranged smartly inside the phone so that it does not obstruct signals while holding the device in landscape mode while playing games. Also, the Note 8 Pro is smart enough to switch between Wi-Fi and 4G networks depending on the strength of the signal.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro boots to Android 9 Pie OS that is customized with MIUI 10 skin. For improved gaming experience, the smartphone is equipped with Game Turbo 2.0 and HyperEngine by MediaTek. The handset is also equipped with other features such as super linear speaker with smart PA, NFC, IR blaster, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS, USB-C and 3.5mm audio jack.

Redmi Note 8 Specifications and Features

The Redmi Note 8 also features the same-sized waterdrop notch enabled display as the Note 8 Pro model and it also wears a splash proof body with Gorilla Glass 5 panels on both sides. The chin of the device is bit thick and it carries ‘Redmi’ brand name. However, the company claims that the smartphone offers a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent.

The Snapdragon 665 that fuels the Xiaomi Mi A3 / Mi CC9e and the rival phone Realme 5 fuels the Redmi Note 8 smartphone. It comes with up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of native storage. There is a dedicated microSD card slot on the device for more storage. The 4,000mAh battery of the phone supports 18W fast charging through USB-C.

The quad camera system of the Redmi Note 8 is placed at the top-left corner of the glass rear of the phone. It includes a Sony IMX586 48-megapixel primary lens with f/1.79 aperture and its other three sensors are same as Note 8 Pro. On its front is a 13-megapixel selfie camera powered with AI beautification features. The Redmi Note 8 is also loaded with MIUI 10 based Android 9 Pie OS and comes with the same connectivity features as the Pro model.

For Redmi Note 8 Pro users, the company is also selling the 179 Yuan (~$25) worth game controller. The first batch of buyers can avail it for 99 Yuan (~$14). The company also announced the limited edition Redmi Note 8 Pro World of Warcraft versions. The first sale of Redmi Note 8 Pro will be held on Sept. 3 whereas the Redmi Note 8’s first sale will be held on Sept. 17.
