Huawei Consumer Business Group just unveiled the Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 and the Wi-Fi AX3 routers via live stream, following their withdrawal from MWC 2020 due to the global coronavirus outbreak. The event was also used to announce other products such as Huawei Mate Xs foldable phone, MatePad Pro, MateBook X Pro, MateBook D series laptops for global audience. The 5G CPE Pro 2 is a part of Huawei’s CPE Pro series high-speed routers that support a wide range of frequencies including 5G. While the Wi-Fi AX3 marks Huawei’s foray into Wi-Fi 6+ terrain.

Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 specifications and features

The CPE Pro 2 flaunts Huawei’s innovative 5G Super Uplink technology and adheres to the latest Wi-Fi 6 standards. The router packs the latest 7nm Balong 5000 chipset that supports 5G NSA and 5G SA networks. The Balong 5000 is the first chipset in the segment to offer 200MHz bandwidth and carrier aggregation technology, which in theory can double the peak download speeds obtained by the first-gen CPE 5G routers to an astounding 3.6 GBPS.

The Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 addresses an inherent flaw of TDD band routers. While they offer adequate bandwidth for fast connections, they can only cover a small area. On the other hand, routers supporting the FDD bandwidth cover large areas but offer limited speed. This is where Huawei’s innovative 5G Super Uplink technology shines. The technology leverages the best of both bandwidths, boosting uplink performance by a few notches.

The CPE Pro 2 is MU-MIMO-compliant and can connect up to 128 devices. It features dynamic narrow bandwidth technology, blessing Huawei branded smartphones supporting Wi-Fi 6 with blazing speeds and improved coverage. Despite measuring 30% less than its predecessor, the CPE Pro 2 features silent cooling fans that can automatically adjust operating speeds to stabilize the working temperature.

Operating at around 30 dB, the cooling fans can drop the temperature by up to 50%, which in turn reduces the router’s surface temperature by 5 degrees Celsius. Working in harmony is an effective heat dissipation system, which ensures the 5G CPE Pro 2 can handle the high operating temperature.

Huawei Wi-Fi AX3 specifications and features

The Huawei Wi-Fi AX3 flaunts Huawei’s revolutionary Gigahome processor and Wi-Fi 6 chipset. The router supports Huawei’s multi-chip collaborative technology that ensures Wi-Fi 6+ speeds, effectively doubling the bandwidth and offering better wall penetration when used in conjunction with Wi-Fi 6-compliant devices from Huawei.

Huawei made it possible by increasing the bandwidth to 160 MHz and implementing dynamic narrowband technology, which stabilizes the band frequency at 2MHz. Simply put, users can enjoy a more stable connection from afar while enjoying higher speeds near the device. The quad-core variant of the Huawei Wi-Fi 6 AX3 supports Huawei Share, which uses NFC to connect Android smartphones to the router, abolishing the need for passwords.

The quad-core variant also flaunts four independent signal amplifiers allowing Mesh networking on multiple Huawei routers. The AX3 is the first domestic router from Huawei to run Harmony OS. The OS optimizes routing from the app layer, kernel layer, and driver layer, establishing long-term stability. The AX3 also features HomeSec security protection, which uses an independent security zone built into the Gigahome quad-core chip, following financial-level security safeguards.
