Xiaomi had partnered with Samsung to launch the world’s first smartphone featuring a 108-megapixel camera sensor. Now, both the companies are working together for a smartphone with 150-megapixel camera which is now said to launch in Q4 2020.

In line with the previous report, reliable tipster Iceuniverse has now reaffirmed that a smartphone featuring a 150-megapixel camera sensor will first get launched by Xiaomi in the fourth quarter of this year.

While the camera sensor will be made by Samsung, the South Korean giant won’t be the first one to adopt it in a smartphone. Currently, there’s no information about which smartphone model of Xiaomi will feature this high megapixel count camera sensor but it could be a part of Mi MIX series of the Mi CC series.

As per the reports, the 150-megapixel camera sensor from Samsung has completed the R&D phase. It has a footprint of around 1-inch and makes use of the same Nonacell technology that the company used for the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor.

Because of the Nonacell technology, the upcoming sensor could combine nine pixels into one to achieve higher light absorption and thus, the the final shots should technically have a pixel count of around 16MP.

Other reports have claimed that OPPO and Vivo will also launch smartphones with a 150MP camera but they will get launched in the first quarter of next year and will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 chipset.

The report also claims that Samsung has also started development of 250-megapixel camera sensor. Recently, the company revealed that it is planning to develop a 600-megapixel camera sensor. To put this development into perspective, human eyes can match up to 500-megapixel resolution.

However, Samsung’s ambitions for the future camera sensors is not limited to 600MP resolution. The company is also looking to make sensors that can register smells and tastes. It is also planning to provide camera sensors for other use cases, including autonomous vehicles, drones, and other IoT (Internet of Things) devices.
