Earlier today (11th June 2020), LG Display announced that it plans on developing stretchable displays by 2023. So, we can expect to see the new technology to soon become a reality within the next few years.
The South Korean tech giant made the announcement after it was tasked to develop the futuristic technology for a national R&D project. This project will be a cooperative effort with over 20 companies, institutions, and universities. The goal for LG Display is to develop a display product that can be stretched by up to 20 percent. In other words, we may soon see more robust displays that can be stretched and folded in the near future.

This technology also has great potential in terms of its possible application. It could be seen in small consumer electronics gadgets like smartphones, or even in commercial spheres in billboards. A notable example of its use was within an aircraft cabin display for the passengers.
Foldable or flexible panels are already a reality, despite sounding far fetched quite recently. This is indicative of the technological advancements and immense innovation within different fields.
