Despite mounting pressure from the US, Huawei is expected to go ahead with the launch of its 2020 flagship Mate series models in the second half of this year. The tech giant is also expected to unveil the Mate X2 foldable smartphone. Talking of the Mate X2, unofficial renders of the foldable device has appeared online.
The renders appeared to have been scooped from a fan-generated video rendition of what the Mate X2 would look like. The rendition is seemingly based on a previous foldable phone design patent that was filed by Huawei. Industry insider Ross Young (@DSSC) who shared the renders affirm that the Mate X2’s design is not much different from the renders.
In terms of the design, the renders show that the next-gen Mate X2 will utilise an in-folding design as against the out-folding one used on the Mate X. The camera module will be located at the side of the screen. There will also be a stylus pen on board, according to the leak. The phone will have a compartment for storing the stylus pen.
Just under the camera modules, the device will pack a secondary screen which can display relevant information such as time and weather.
Perhaps, what should interest you the most about the Mate X2 is that the device can be folded halfway and used in a laptop mode. In this mode, the screen is split into two – one functions as the display and the other one as the input keyboard.
The rumoured details of the device include an 8.03-inch screen size when fully opened. This is the same size as the Mate X.
