We had thought Xiaomi had given up on the tablet market as it had failed to update its line up for more than two years now. The last model, the Mi Pad 4 was released in June 2018 and in all honesty, the sales wasn’t that impressive.Xiaomi Mi Pad 5

However, in the wake of the COVID 19 pandemic, virtual offices and online learning stimulate a huge demand for electronic gadgets and tablet PCs were among the beneficiaries. Thsi may have prompted the recent statement by Xiaomi Group’s Xu Jieyun who publicly disclosed that the long-silent Xiaomi tablet products will usher in an update this year, and will bring MIUI system based on tablet product research and development.

While we await for more details from Xiaomi, the supposed renders and specs of the upcoming Mi Pad 5 tablet have appeared online. This is the first renders of the device that we’ll be seeing online. While we can’t vouch for the authenticity of the renders, they show both the rear and front of the device. Wht stands out at the back is the dual camra setup which resembles the design style of the Mi 11.

In terms of specs, the device is said to adopt 2K/144Hz full-screen solution on the front, supports 480Hz touch sampling rate. The display is an LCD screen and will also be covered with the fifth-generation Corning Gorilla Glass.

The back uses an angel eye matrix multi-camera module, equipped with a 20 million pixel main camera and 13 MP wide-angle macro lens. The main camera sensor is a Sony IMX586 sensor.Xiaomi Mi Pad 5

The frame and back of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 are made of aluminum alloy material similar to that of the iPad. It is also equipped with side fingerprint recognition and supports a magnetic capacitive stylus.

In terms of core configuration, Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 is equipped with Qualcomm’s newly released Snapdragon 870 processor. The tablet will come in different memory variants with the base being 8GB+128GB priced at 3999 yuan (~$619). There will also be an 8GB+256GB version priced at 4299 yuan (~$666), a 12GB+512GB version which is priced at 4999 yuan (~$774), and a 16GB+1TB version priced at 5499 yuan (~$851).

If these leaked renders and detailed specs are to be believed, then the Mi Pad 5 will be a high-end tablet aimed at taking on products from Apple, Huawei, and Samsung. Whenever it is launched, it will drop as Xiaomi’s first take on the high-end tablet market.
