Other than the USB 2.0 port, there’s barely a flaw to find. The triple-camera setup shifts its center of gravity slightly upward, but its ultra-light, compact build means you never feel that top-heavy awkwardness in your hand.

Honestly, I’ve never liked the feel of the iPhone Air. It’s way too thin—holding it feels like holding a piece of corrugated paper. The 3.2x telephoto lens is perfect for daily use, with a focal length that’s just right, not too long, not too short. Image quality is solid too; it’s barely different from the main cam in most cases. You just need a steady hand, though—any shake and the shot gets blurry fast. Even at 6.4x zoom, it still performs surprisingly well, and I’m really happy with that.

The main camera is flawless, right up there with other flagship phones. Colors are vibrant, and the bokeh effect is stunning. Since the telephoto lacks a macro mode and has a minimum focusing distance of nearly 50cm, the main cam takes on macro shooting duties. The ultra-wide can do macro, too, but neither camera delivers satisfying macro shots.

The ultra-wide is easily one of the phone’s biggest letdowns. It’s better than the 8MP ultra-wides on budget phones—50MP clearly boosts sharpness, and daytime shots look totally fine. But as soon as the light dims, image quality drops off a cliff around the edges. Video on the ultra-wide isn’t the best either; there’s a lot of frame tearing. Switch to the main cam, though, and all those issues disappear.

For a 155g phone, this camera performance is seriously impressive. A great main cam, a solid telephoto, a decent ultra-wide in daylight—it’s easily the best triple-camera Air phone you can get.

The camera’s quick-launch button? It’s not great. Just like the iPhone’s, it’s a struggle to switch to your desired focal length with it. And since it’s a capacitive touch button, not a physical one, the tactile feel is off. As an AI button, though, it’s pretty good. It basically does what Apple Intelligence promised in its launch ads—hold up the phone, and it tells you what you’re looking at. The only downside is the lack of customizability; most of the time, I forget it’s even there.

Performance

The Dimensity 9500 is one of the most powerful mobile chips currently available, so HONOR made the perfect call by putting it in the Magic8 Pro Air. I even think there’s a reason HONOR went with a MediaTek chip—they’ve clearly found a secret optimization formula. A full day of normal use means no need to top up the battery constantly. Even heavy gaming doesn’t eat through the battery fast, and light daily use keeps power drain super low.

This makes the subject stand out, though at the cost of some shadow information. Remarkably, despite these differences, both devices deliver almost the same image sharpness and clarity.

In another set of shots, both phones deliver solid sharpness, revealing clear details like hair strands, fabric textures, hats, and markings on the watch. This shows their telephoto lenses excel at capturing fine details in low light. However, the vivo X200 Ultra slightly under-represents shadow and background details. As for which handles details better, that’s a call for you to make.

Color Performance in Complex Scenes

In terms of color reproduction, the Pura 80 Ultra excels in accuracy. It renders the pink hair, red hat, and purple eyes of the figurine close to their real-life hues, with natural color transitions, and no obvious color casts. The vivo X200 Ultra, however, maintains its signature style, with the tones being very vivid. For example, the pink hair shows heightened saturation, creating a more vibrant visual impact but deviating slightly from the authentic color. Huawei’s Ultra Chroma camera notably stands out, ensuring precise color fidelity even in complex lighting scenarios. To validate this, we also compared portrait and pet close-up shots.

Let’s focus on the white T-shirt and skin tones. Even with good lighting, vivo doesn’t oversaturate colors anymore—but there’s still a big color shift. The white balance looks greenish. Meanwhile, the Pura 80 Ultra nails natural skin tones way better than vivo here.

The color issues we talked about earlier? They’re still here. See, vivo doesn’t have a color temperature sensor, so the white balance is all over the place. It tries to fix it, but keeps messing up the correction. Huawei, though, their colors are way closer to what we see. Now, here’s the thing, Pura 80 Ultra is better in color accuracy, but when it comes to fine details—especially hair and fur—vivo handles that better.

Detail Handling

Let’s talk about detail loss. The Pura 80 Ultra shows blurry hair edges—you can’t make out fine strands. It relies more on hardware advantages. Not like the vivo X200 Ultra, which nails those tiny hair textures and keeps that natural, fluffy look. That’s probably because vivo is more optimized for complex scenes, so hair just comes out better.

Second issue: unnatural transitions. Where hair meets skin or the background, Huawei’s performance is a bit off, like places around the forehead and sideburns, the edges are harsh, which kills the softness in portraits. Vivo, though, has smoother transitions; hair blends into the background way more naturally.

Now, about algorithms. Vivo had some glitches early on, but system updates fixed that pretty well. Huawei still lags here, to be honest. But both have different styles. So, which one do you like more?

Telephoto Beyond 200mm (10x Zoom)

Now let’s look at 10x zoom, the focal length that separates these two phones’ performance. Starting with the first set, beyond the color differences we saw earlier, the X200 Ultra’s main issue here is over-reliance on algorithms. Take this close-up of a jar—it has tons of details and textures. On the X200 Ultra shot, so many details are masked or blurred by the algorithm, which is a real shame.

Huawei, though, because of its larger sensor, doesn’t need heavy noise reduction or AI work, so it keeps way more brightness and detail. That bigger sensor gives it a clear edge here. This set also perfectly backs up my earlier point. The Pura 80 Ultra keeps way more shadow details—take the buildings at the back, for example. It outperforms in both detail and dynamic range.

In this scene, the color problem is still here. Huawei leans toward authentic colors, while vivo enhances everything, making the image more pleasing to the eye.

When shooting outdoor scenes, this set of photos shows that the Pura 80 Ultra excels in the details of the sky, plants, and architecture. Vivo boosts contrast to enhance visual appeal, but that highlights slightly weaker resolution and detail retention.

Now let’s compare the main and ultra-wide lenses. Which phone do you think will take the crown here?

Video Stabilization

In terms of videos, I think vivo performs extremely well. It has one more LOG mode than Huawei. Regarding the video stabilization, you can get the answer by comparing the video.

User Experience and Selection

During shooting, we also noticed an issue: if we move fast, the Pura 80 Ultra will show a jelly effect, indicating that the CMOS reading speed is relatively slow. Although vivo also has this problem, it is not particularly obvious. The imaging performance between the two phones is not significant. From my experience, vivo tends to focus more on algorithms, while Huawei relies more on the hardware. In terms of details and night performance, Huawei is more outstanding.

However, I should also mention that the lens durability of the Pura 80 Ultra may be a major challenge. Although it can bring a great imaging experience, if you accidentally break it, the cost of repairing the lens will be expensive. In addition, during use, the vivo’s lens has a shaking sensation, and Huawei’s dual telephoto lenses have an obvious mechanical effect when switching.

Summary

Overall, the imaging styles of these two phones differ significantly. The Pura 80 Ultra pursues ultimate telephoto image quality, with its images leaning more toward natural color reproduction. vivo, on the other hand, balances portrait photography and video creation. Therefore, if you want to choose one between them, consider your own needs first.

No joke, the author is a big fan of Oneodio’s headphones. Simply because the team is very dedicated to sound quality and noise cancellation in a good balance with budget. We reviewed Oneodio Focus A5 before and were impressed. The new Oneodio Focus A6 has come to the Review studio for comprehensive testing.

To draw a brief conclusion first: the results were surprising; both the frequency response curves and the comparisons from the tests were excellent. It’s hard to believe that it somehow even surpasses my SONY WH-1000XM4 in sound quality.

Unboxing & Appearance

Before the test, let’s do unboxing. The packaging features a black minimalist design. The first layer reveals the headphones, along with a User Manual and a USB-C to C cable for charging and audio.

This headphone is in a slightly warm white, with a simple and modern design. The ear cup is relatively large, providing good sound insulation and wearing comfort. And the headband is adjustable. The metal-like cover of the ear cup has a circular decoration with the logo. The ear cup appears to be made of memory foam or protein leather, very soft, and offers a good fit. It doesn’t press on the temples, even for those who wear glasses, wearing comfort is excellent even after long-term use. They are lightweight, approximately 248g, feel no awful pressure, and consequently, are very comfortable.

The control buttons are located on the lower right side of the headphone, including the power switch, multi-function button, ANC button, volume control, and USB port. Overall, the design is minimalist, which I like. The headphones can rotate 90 degrees and are foldable. Very compact size after folding, so convenient for travel.

Sound Quality

Other than the design, the sound quality is also very important. We tested its frequency response, see if it can reproduce different frequencies, and check for balance or discrepancies.

From the chart, there’s an upward trend in the low-frequency area, reaching about 90dB, indicating strong low-frequency performance with rich bass. The mid-frequency response is relatively stable with minor fluctuations, suggesting a balanced mid-range that can accurately reproduce vocals and instruments. The high-frequency response peaks between 4 kHz and 10 kHz, demonstrating good high-frequency extension and a delicate treble.

We also compared it with the SONY WH-1000XM4. The Oneodio Focus A6 is no less impressive than the XM4 in real-world listening in the lows, mids, and highs. The A6 has a stronger low-frequency response. Here it also matches my hearing experience on these two, as the XM4 headphones are less emphasizing bass. In the mid-frequency range, the A6’s curve is more stable than the XM4’s lower response. Considering mid-frequencies are crucial for vocals and instruments, the A6 likely offers more natural and clear vocals, while the XM4 may need a boost in this range. Similarly, the A6’s high-frequency response surpasses the XM4’s.

We used the microphone to record the actual performance of both headphones for a comparison in the video. The A6’s vocals are very mellow and well-balanced with instruments. Even when mixed up with the XM4’s sound, you can still tell them apart.

Noise Cancellation

We tested the noise cancellation in different noisy environments, such as subways and airplanes. Let’s experience background noise suppression together. It can capture and silence up to 98% of low-frequency noise, blocking out external chaos, subway rumbles, and office chatter, leaving you with just your music, focus, and calm.

APP

We can also use the Oneodio app for customization, including ANC ON, Transparency, ANC OFF, Wind ANC, and Wind Transparency. Although we can adjust the equalizer according to our preferences, the preset modes are somewhat limited, with only Pop Mode, Bass Mode, and Super Bass Mode. We still have high expectations for the Oneodio team, hoping they will introduce more modes suitable for different music genres in the future.

The app also offers features like headphone location, wearing duration reminders, and automatic power-off. Additionally, it has a movie sound effect mode.

Battery Life

With noise cancellation enabled, the playback time is approximately 40 hours, and around 75 hours with it turned off. In addition to the long battery life, it also supports wired fast charging. Charging speed is pretty impressive. We can quickly collect back almost ten hours of playback time in just a 10-minute charge (just get yourself a proper charger).

Additional Features

Regarding Bluetooth connectivity and compatibility, the Oneodio Focus A6 supports Bluetooth protocols such as HFP, AVRCP, A2DP, BLE, and SPP. For audio codecs, it supports AAC, SBC, and LDAC. However, despite its excellent sound quality, it lacks some smart features like optical wear detection.

Summary

In summary, the OneOdio Focus A6 are currently the most shockingly good ANC wireless headphones at a similar price range, in terms of sound quality and noise cancellation. Introduction

The new Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra, like the Xiaomi 15S Pro, has the XRing O1 chip. At the time of release, many people may already have gained an understanding of the chip’s performance from leaked benchmark data. Some have even questioned the real efforts Xiaomi has put into it. After all, this chip uses standard CPU and GPU cores from the ARM portfolio. Additionally, the XRing O1 chip in the Pad 7 Ultra differs a bit from that in the smartphone; it has been downclocked. So, how exactly does it perform as an Ultra tablet?

Unboxing & Appearance

In the box, you first see the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra. In the top left corner is the white box with the user manual inside. Next, you’ll find the A to C cable and a 120W fast charger. We also purchased the keyboard, which costs 1499RMB (≈206USD). The Pad 7 Ultra’s design basically inherit most of the previous model of the line.

The color we have here is purple, the same as the Pro version. There is also a black color option available. The entire back and frame are made of metal, with a fine matte finish. The first impression is that it is very thin. Comparing it to the Pad 7 Pro, you can see that its thickness is only 5.1mm.

This time, Xiaomi has made several significant changes to its tablet. The first change is that Xiaomi has abandoned the LCD screen and gone with an OLED one. And you can choose either the regular screen, like the one I have here, or the anti-glare screen version. The second change is the screen size, which is now 14 inches.

This site provides an experience similar to that of a laptop screen. However, it still keeps the same notch design as before. This design affects my reading experience. I think this might be the reason why the bezel has become narrower. So, the notch had to be there. If you were to choose, which one would you prefer?

Screen and Audio

The Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra features a very large screen, 14 inches with a 3:2 aspect ratio. This makes the Pad more suitable for reading and office work. The screen has a resolution of 3.2K, with a high brightness level. The regular brightness is 900 nits, and the peak brightness can reach 1600 nits.

Even under strong light, the screen remains visible without any issues. The screen supports DC and PWM dimming and provides a 4800Hz high-frequency PWM dimming option. It also supports the P3 wide color gamut, which allows it to display rich colors with natural transitions, making the visuals very realistic. The screen supports a maximum adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz, which is smooth and comfortable for viewing, especially when scrolling through web pages or playing games. There is no sense of lag.

The touch sampling rate is up to 240Hz, with an instantaneous touch sampling rate of up to 1600Hz. And the stylus touch sampling rate is 240Hz. This means the screen responds very quickly to any touch, whether you’re playing games or writing, you can feel this fast response.

Additionally, the screen uses M9 low-power-emitting materials, which means it consumes less power when displaying content, so the battery life could be better. The screen cover is made of fifth-gen Gorilla Glass, which is very durable and resistant to drops, significantly enhancing the screen’s robustness. However, this Pad tends to reflect light under spot lights. If you hate this, better purchase the paper-matt screen version.

Moreover, in terms of multitasking, the App launch speed has increased by an average of 61%, the image loading speed has improved by 80%, and the multitasking fluidity has been enhanced by 49%. When we open multiple Apps at the same time, switching between them is also very smooth without any lag, making the work efficiency much higher.

Performance

Speaking of the chip, the XRing O1 is indeed much better than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (4 nm) in the previous Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro. This can also be verified from the game tests. However, in reality, the XRing O1 in the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra still lasted at a lower clocking than the one in the Xiaomi 15S Pro.

With other conditions unchanged, the max core of the CPU in the Xiaomi 15S Pro clocks up at 3.9GHz, while the max figure is 3.7GHz for the Pad7 Ultra. To put it simply, the CPU in the Xiaomi 15S Pro is tuned like a sports car with a higher top speed, while the one in the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra is like an SUV, with a balance between space and performance. Although it is not as fast, it focuses more on stability and endurance.

Even though the XRing O1 in the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra is a downclocked version, its performance is still excellent. Thanks to the larger space inside and better heat dissipation, it can run stably for a long time. For example, when watching videos or working in the office. It’s mainly powered by adapting non-large cores with a slightly lower main frequency, which is like equipping an SUV with an engine suitable for long-distance travel. Although it is not as fast, it is more economical and can run stably for a long time without easily “stalling”. To get a rough picture of the chipset running inside, you can take a look at its benchmark results in various tests.

Now we have also chosen the very demanding game, Honkai: Star Rail, for a test. We found that the serious frame dropping that occurred in the Pad 7 Pro is not here in the Ultra. So, you don’t have to worry about the gaming experience at all.

System and Functionality

I once saw a comment online about Xiaomi’s system: “The biggest opponent of XRing is not Snapdragon or Kirin, but HyperOS.” I think this is indeed the case. Xiaomi’s hardware performance has always been good, but due to system optimization issues, it still seems to have some old problems. Although HyperOS 2.0 has improved in stability and security, there are still many old problems.

For example, the volume bar pop-up is misplaced for touching; the system (mostly animation) is laggy and flicky sometimes; the control center and notification center cannot be merged on the same page. However, the system’s compatibility for peripherals is quite good. It supports game controllers, and the gaming experience has also been improved.

Imaging and Functionality

Regarding the camera setup, the specs are the same as the Pad 7 Pro, with no changes.

In addition, Xiaomi has also optimized some Apps. For example, Paint World Pro, WPS Office PC, CAD, and CAJViewer PC, etc. The optimization is relatively grown-up and can widely meet the needs of officing and creating. The file transfer function between mobile phones and computers has been optimized and can be operated through the pull-down toolbar.

Accessories

Let’s take a look at the accessories. The keyboard and case are connected to form a floating keyboard. The keyboard has been upgraded, with a good typing feel, pressure sensitivity, and response. However, the keyboard and pen need to be purchased separately.

As for the pen, although there is no upgrade, there are two sets of free brushes for a limited time. The pressure sensitivity and touch feel of the pen are very good when in use. However, one thing to note is that there is still a delay with the pen.

In summary, the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra is a powerful tablet with a very good screen, suitable for many usage scenarios, such as watching movies, working in the office, and drawing. Introduction:

When you think of Xiaomi, what comes to mind first? The Xiaomi 12S Ultra? Perhaps the Xiaomi 15 series phones? Or could it be the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro? We unboxed this tablet two months ago to take a quick look. It features significant upgrades from the 6 Pro in several areas: the display is much better, it has the latest system, and it’s equipped with powerful AI features. However, it still faces some issues.

Design:

This model retains the same design as before, featuring an aluminum back and frame. It feels very much like an iPad when you hold it. The size of the Pad 7 Pro lies between the 6 Pro and 6S Pro, and it’s surprisingly lightweight.

It is available in three colors and has two speakers located at the top and bottom. However, compared to the 6S Pro, you’ll see that the 6S Pro has six speakers. It still supports Dolby Vision Atmos, though.

The power button remains on top and facilitates fingerprint unlock. At the bottom, there is a Type-C charging port. However, I wish Xiaomi would align the charging port and speakers at the same level. Wouldn’t that look so much nicer? The volume buttons and the slot for charging the stylus are on the right side. The magnet is just right; you can gently place the pen, and it sticks perfectly.

On the back, there’s the camera module. I’m not a huge fan of it unless it’s on a phone because when placed flat on a table without a case, it wobbles. But if you share this concern like I do, just use a protective case. I was hoping there would be a SIM card slot, but there isn’t.

Display:

It’s got an 11.2-inch screen. The 3:2 aspect ratio gives you more room to watch videos or movies, and it’s perfect for reading and writing. Plus, it’s an eye-protecting screen with that German TÜV triple certification.

Now, it’s still an IPS screen, and I remember people asking Xiaomi, “Why still IPS on the 7 Pro?” Lots of other brands are all about OLED screens, but choosing IPS doesn’t mean it’s bad. IPS screens are better for color accuracy, viewing angles, and they last longer. When it comes to watching movies, this tablet is top-notch. Whether you’re lying down or watching on the side, the picture’s always clear.

System:

So, HyperOS 1 was all about setting the foundation and working on the behind-the-scenes features. But HyperOS 2 is stepping up the parts you can feel and use. The cross-system and cross-screen experience still lets you connect your phone and tablet without the internet, it’s a one-touch connection.

You can control your phone right from the tablet, and moving files around for work is a breeze. Just drag and drop them onto the tablet. When you need to check your phone messages, just tap to open a little window, and you can drag it to the side to make it a tiny icon.

But I have a suggestion for Xiaomi: I hope you can operate the phone screen after it’s connected. Right now, the phone interface only shows up on the right and can’t be moved around. If I want to see what it’s covering, I need to minimize it. If you could drag it around like a split screen, it would be much better.

Plus, the tablet’s interface is way smoother than before, fixing all those laggy and frame-drop issues. No lag when you’re opening and closing apps fast. Even that old problem of lag after splitting the screen is gone. The animations when you slide the notification and control center are super smooth, which is awesome.

AI Features:

HyperOS 2 has a lot of AI in daily use, even in the basic wallpaper settings. It uses AI to make static photos move. There are landscapes, cities, and plants, you can pick pics from your album and make them into dynamic wallpapers. And then there’s AI Writing, AI Translate, AI Voice Commands, all that typical AI app stuff.

But I like the AI Art in Mi Canvas. Unlike other brands, it helps you create. Let’s say you draw an apple and use AI Art; you can pick from seven styles, and each one gives you three drawings. You can download them straight to your album or use them right away.

Unfortunately, this app is not great for professional painting. First off, no layers. Second, not many brush types, which puts it behind Huawei’s GoPaint and iPad’s Procreate. If you’re using it for drawing, it’s more for quick sketches and everyday doodles. Just like the 6S Pro, the split-screen function lets you have up to four apps open at once.

Accessories:

When it comes to drawing or writing, the latest focus stylus has awesome pressure sensitivity and low latency. But the pen’s output stability could be better when you’re writing or drawing slowly. Overall, with the latest floating keyboard, creating and working on this tablet is pretty sweet. The keyboard connection is super fast, adjusts from 0° to 124° seamlessly, and has a full-area mechanical pressure touchpad. The typing feel is solid too. But you have to buy these accessories separately.

Performance:

This time around, there is a new chip, with the Pad 7 Pro jumping from Gen 2 to Gen 3. But even with the new chip, the CPU and GPU performance are not as great as I hoped. It can keep at around 60FPS in Genshin Impact on max settings, but when you hit those complex maps in Star Rail, it starts dropping frames badly.

And the battery drains fast during those times. It’s a common problem with most tablets these days. The scores on Geekbench 6, 3D Mark, and AnTuTu look good, but this Gen3 might be a bit worse than the last one in some tests.

Camera:

Now, even though I griped about the camera before, the photos and videos it takes are top-notch. Check out these samples… They’re good enough for most everyday shooting. Plus, the Pad 7 Pro’s specs are higher than the Pad 7 for front camera video recording. But don’t you think it looks a lot like the camera module on the Xiaomi 14?

Battery and Charging:

The one big difference with the 7 Pro is the battery life. This time, the Pad 7 Pro has an 8850mAh battery and can charge fast with 67W wired charging.

Conclusion:

All in all, the Xiaomi tablet still needs specific tuning here and there, like fixing up some Mi Home software and making the system smoother with a more aesthetic UI. But the price and how useful it is are the big reasons consumers might buy it. The Pad 7 Pro is a real bang-for-your-buck option for learning, working, and chilling out with some entertainment.

Shift to XPPen Magic Note Pad

The author has always had a preference for physical-paper books, and handwritten notes. I rarely use any digital devices like smartphones or tablets in the studio for daily note-taking, even though there’re quite a lot of tablets with paper-like screens in the office. I know my experience doesn’t apply to most people, as I just simply couldn’t read e-books on screens for a long-lasting time. However, in such a digital era, it’s inevitable that from time to time I’ll need to do my work through a screen. Fighting it somehow, I’m still sticking with handwriting to meet my miss of physical page flipping. But the team recently noticed my notebooks had been replaced by something new—the XPPen Magic Note Pad. Well, this is the best paper-like tablet I could find for fitting my reading and writing.

Appearance

As the other reviewers got to try this particular tablet, at the beginning, the XPPen Magic Note Pad looks much like a regular smart tablet. But I really see it differently. The review story is also about how I convinced them.

At first glance, it is like a drawing tablet widely used in the design industry, rather than a common tablet. It features a silver bezel and about an 11-inch display, which is how it could be so special as a note-taking device. I will talk more about the magic display later.

The backcover is in pure white with a light elegant logo printed, with a slightly matt finish. Similar to a smart tablet, the front face features a front camera on the top for facial recognition and video-meeting uses. On the left side, there’s a dedicated slot as a magnetic pen holder. The accompanied pencil can be firmly attached on the slot position.

Screen

As mentioned, one of the primary reasons I chose this Pad is the screen with a fine matt finish. It claims to be the world’s first 3-in-1 Color Note Pad. Unlike other e-ink screens, the Magic Note Pad offers up to three intelligent color modes, including Nature Colour Mode, Light Colour Mode and an special Ink Paper Mode.

With Ink Paper Mode on, the grayscale (black&white) display is sharp and clear, making text extremely comfortable to read, similar to those fine e-ink screens, without causing eye fatigue during long reading sessions. But obviously, it’s not the traditional E-ink pannel with a limited refresh rate. However, its visual effect is still very close to the texture of a paper page, while the whole UI has been accordingly optimized and beautified similarly to those E-ink devices, brief but informative. It’s truly enjoyable to have such a great reading experience with books, line drawings and comics here.

The Light Color mode is designed for various lighting conditions, with low-saturation colors that are gentle on the eyes, which is more about to simulate a color-e-ink effect. But since it has a high resolution (1920×1200) and up to 90Hz refresh rate, it can provide more detailed images and smoother animations.

The Natural Color mode, on the other hand, accurately reproduces colors, delivering a sense of depth and realism. When viewing comics or artworks, it feels like you’re having a fine printed coated paper book rather than a cold electronic device.

Compared to most E-ink displays, the most notable feature is its 90Hz refresh rate. If you’ve ever used a traditional e-ink reader, you’ll understand the patience required for even simple page-turning. I have to emphasize again, the Magic Note Pad excels in this part, offering a smooth experience that traditional e-ink screens cannot match.

Whether writing, drawing, or scrolling, the screen is virtually lag-free, with no noticeable ghosting. Once you’ve experienced this level of fluidity, it’s hard to find an excuse to go back with most E-ink devices, unless you are fine with the E-ink’s compromise in smoothness and image quality. The difference is impressive, by comparing it to the regular e-ink screen.

When it comes to eye protection, which is crucial, given the long hours we spend in front of screens, the screen on this pad is certified by TÜV SÜD for low blue light and paper-like display.

This is not an exaggeration; The ink-like screens genuinely reduce harmful blue light and eliminate screen flicker, preventing eye strain and fatigue.

The writing experience with the XPPen Magic Note Pad is exceptional. It comes with the X3 Pro Pencil 2, which offers 16K ultra-sensitive pressure levels. This is significantly better than the 4096 or 8192 levels found in other brands.

The pen captures every ounce of pressure applied, and the lines it creates are very natural and fluid. The soft tip design ensures smooth gliding on the screen, avoiding the harsh feel of writing on glass. It feels almost identical to writing on paper.

The pencil operates via electromagnetic resonance (EMR) technology, with no need for charging or Bluetooth pairing.

Additionally, the pen features a convenient shortcut button that enhances workflow efficiency, by providing quick access to eraser and customizable controls. The placement of the feature is particularly well-thought-out.

However, we did notice one minor issue: when the pen cursor is activated, it can sometimes interfere with the writing experience. But at the same time, for fine painting, and it could help with the positioning of the brushstrokes. If you can get used to it, the drawing experience on the Note Pad will be vastly boosted.

XPPen Notes

The stock App, the XPPen Notes, is another standout feature. If you’re looking for a digital note-taking app that matches your imagination and your schedule, XPPen Notes is probably the perfect solution.

First of all, creating notes has never been easier. With just one click on the desktop, you can quickly generate a note in seconds. Need to import lecture slides or project files? No problem with just one step. And XPPen Notes also supports PDF import, then allowing you to gather all important files in one place.

With pen mode, your X3 Pro Pencil 2 is like an extension of your hand, providing a precise writing and drawing experience, just as natural as using physical paper and pen. It’s not often we see such a combo on other brands’ devices. Either the writing experience needs to be optimized, or it’s diifficult to provide wider features beyond writing experience.

Switch to touch mode, you can use your fingers to record ideas or outline plans at any time, perfect for those moments of inspiration. But trust me – you probably rarely write with your finger out of sheer love for this pen.

Back to writing, we can choose from a variety of writing modes, pen, pencil, fountain pen, laser pointer, and highlighter. Each mode has its unique functions.

For example, the fountain pen is perfect for practicing calligraphy or detailed notes, with the great supports adjusting pressure sensitivity and line thickness.

The fountain pen provides even and consistent strokes, while the highlighter makes it easy to highlight the key points. And the laser pointer? It’s like a mini tutor in your hand, with lines and dots that automatically disappear after a while, so you never have to worry about erasing again!

There’s also a single-stroke shaping tool, so you can draw perfect lines, geometric shapes, and even 3D coordinates with a few clicks.

Reading is also enjoyable and convenient. Switch to reading mode and the toolbar disappears, giving you a clean, distraction-free view. But don’t worry, you can still use the underline, annotation, translation, and hyperlink features.

Speaking of translation, XPPen Notes supports 12 languages, allowing you to conquer foreign texts with confidence. And the Text Box Input Tool? It’s like typing on a digital canvas, with support for custom fonts, weights, colors, and spacing. Your notes will be as sophisticated as your style!

Another impressive bonus comes with audio recording. Whether you are in a lecture or a meeting, XPPen Notes instantly turns into a recorder. Record in segments and export as MP4 files so that you won’t miss a word.

In addition to these, the XPPen Note provides four smart eye protection modes. Seamless storage, access anytime, anywhere. Once you finish taking notes on the app, your notes are automatically saved on the device and can be uploaded to OneDrive or Google Drive for cross-device editing and backup.

Android System and Performance

The tablet runs on Android 14, and with the full power of the Google Play Store’s extensive app ecosystem, you can install apps based on your needs and workflow, just as I do.

Conclusion

Overall, while the XPPen Magic Note Pad is not perfect. To be honest, it lacks a built-in book source and library, and its processor doesn’t support more advanced operations. But luckily it runs an Android and you have plenty of third-party options. And its more expanded features will depend on how you utilize external apps to round out your library.

Still, eye protection and writing experience are really good. Whether for a long time learning, working, or creating, it is comfortable for both the eyes and the hand. I’m very happy to see the launch of such a special and powerful tablet. The friendly exeprience also gives me the confidence to recommend it to the audiences. But I must admit there are a lot of details worth exploring on the tablet outside of my review. Among them Honor Magic is standing out with the latest upgrade of Magic 7 series, especially regarding network capability. The standard version even nailed the top spot in AI features. If you’re like me and are about getting the best bang for your buck while still enjoying the Magic7 experience, you should check out the new Honor Magic7 Lite.

Design

When I first handed on the Honor Magic7 Lite, there was a quick illusion that it looks like the Honor X60 Pro. They look similar except for the color. But we don’t have a problem with that, as it keeps up with Honor’s classic design which has been proven to be solid-built. But here’s the kicker: this is the lightest and thinnest phone in the series, while more importantly, the phone also has some tough attributes. At least check out the camera bump, being thinner than a coin, really impressive.

This Lite version is all about durability, especially on the screen and back. It feels way more solid than the previous models. It’s got these excellent protective shields and super-strong glass that cover it against daily knocks and drops.

Paired with the industry’s first Cushioning Airbag Protective Case and a Fully Wrapped Curved Screen Protection Layer, you’ve got a phone that can take a hit (But I don’t recommend you test it, as it’s not perfectly guaranteed by the warranty policy). But the brand has done it for you: The Lite model’s screen even got an SGS certification of 5-Star Drop Resistance.

And guess what? Its dust and water-resistant level is IP64, which is rare for light phones at this price.

Display

Regarding the display, the Honor Magic7 Lite has an OLED curved screen with pop colors and super-sharp details. It has a 120Hz refresh rate and can get as bright as 4000nits (spot peak brightness), so the images look really fabulous no matter where you are.

Even in the dark, this display with 3840Hz flicker-free PWM dimming also reduced damage on the eyes. The Lite version has simplified things, like optical fingerprint unlocking instead of ultrasonic. But it still supports phone unlock with your face, and both the facial and fingerprint unlock are pretty fast.

Performance

The Honor Magic7 Lite is running on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor. It’s not the fastest, but it’s enough for everyday and lite gaming, plus handling your daily grind and multitasking like a charm. The new chipset’s graphics performance has significantly increased compared to the last generation, making it a good fit for smooth gaming and other heavy tasks.

It’s running MagicOS 8, which is based on Android 14, and it’s made to be super user-friendly. With 8GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB storage options, you can choose a larger storage to make you more comfortable when dealing with plenty of large files.

Smart Features

The new features of MagicOS also got succeeded to the Honor Magic7 Lite. The impressive new features like Magic Capsule, Magic Portal, and Parallel Space are still available on the Lite, making your user experience effective and personalized. For example, Magic Capsule can effectively save time dealing with notifications, just tap the bar for more information and have essential operation with the notifications without getting in the apps.

Magic Portal is even more remarkable; it can figure out what you’re trying to do with texts, images and files, and guide you to the apps you need in a single dragging step. Now it works with many apps, from Google and Microsoft apps to all your social media favorites.

Parallel Space lets you use two accounts at once, like having two phones in one, which is fantastic if you want to keep work and play separate.

Battery Life and Charging

The light Honor Magic7 Lite packs a 6600mAh battery, a big jump from the last generation. It supports 66W fast charging, so you’ve got excellent battery life. But unfortunately, no charger is included in the package. Note that and get one if you are considering buying the phone.

Camera Configuration

The cameras have a 108MP primary camera and a 5MP ultra-wide-angle lens, so they can take great pictures, whether it’s in bright daylight or pitch-black nights.

It’s got 3x lossless zoom and three portrait modes that are perfect for portraits. The camera’s got OIS to keep your video shooting steady. Plus, you can tap this mode to nail those action shots.

The camera can automatically recognize subtle expressions like smiles and jumping, giving you detailed and impressive snapshots. The AI eraser is still excellent; Honor’s AI algorithm can accurately identify objects and erase them naturally and accurately.

Surprisingly, the 16MP front camera supports OIS optical stabilization, which is more than enough for vlog and selfie portrait shooting.

Conclusion

To wrap it up, the Honor Magic7 Lite is a mid-range smartphone that gives you a lot for such a price tag. It’s almost one of the most versatile pick among the similar mid-rangers. If you’re not after top-tier performance but want a phone that looks good but also reliably tough, lasts all day, and has good camera system as well, you are probably the one they are after. Again, especially since it is incredibly durable and reliable, the Magic7 Lite is likely making a difference in the market.

HUAWEI nova 13 Pro

The story is about a phone we’ve been waiting for a couple of months… Well, the girls in the studio have, to be precise. It is the HUAWEI nova 13 Pro. the team trusted their instincts, so we got this phone firsthand. And the nova 13 Pro does impress us a lot.

If you’re tired of smartphones as cold, technical tools and just want a model expressing your sense with dazzling design, the Nova 13 Pro is probably the most stylish of all the special options.

Furthermore, unlike those top-notch flagships, it wasn’t born to be a tech show-off. It exists more about to fill a personalized niche in the market. So it’s great to hear that it’s released for global users.

So, we’ll share my experience and inspiration driven by the Huawei nova 13 Pro. And of course, why it’s so impressive at first glance.

When I open the box, there’s the nova 13 Pro at the top, followed by a small card removal pin, a clear case, a 100w charging head, and a T-C cable. However, there is one point I have to mention and that is the case.

The phone’s back cover is so elegantly designed that I refused to put the case on. It’s funny that the case is even much easier to collect fingerprints than the phone. Thanks to the unique plaid texture with the matt finish, the phone offers decent grip and touch in hands. So, no way to make me put the case on.

Appearance

Well, to cut to the chase, back to the phone. This time The nova 13 Pro offers four high-value colorways in terms of exterior colors – Loden Green, White, and Black. The naming of these colors seems to call to our imagination.

Well, I do look for its mapping in the natural world. Especially the Green variant in my hand does inspire me of something like the country life in my childhood: memories of low-saturated greenery with sharp edges, and lively fabric texture for family afternoon picnics….

Of course, the above is just to give you an idea of how much I like the green design. We chose the green version for no other reason than I was struck by it at first glance.

To be more detailed, these colorways feature low-saturation colors, especially the Loden Green. It is visually comfortable and not fancy at all. The back cover of the fuselage is made of all-glass material using the AG Etching Process. It feels silky smooth, and surprisingly, does not easily collect fingerprints.

It’s likely the first time we saw a plaid texture applied on a smartphone. The dynamic texture looks so living—the pattern’s light and shadow shift in various lighting angles.

Screen

The nova 13 Pro utilizes a slightly-edge-curved design on the front face. Visually the four equal corners of the display offer absolute balance.  It is a design that balances the rounded feel of a curved screen with the precise control of a flat display. It allows our palms to fit the phone better when holding it in one hand.

The screen measures 6.76 inches with a resolution of 1224 x 2776 pixels and supports a 120Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate, just like the other phones in 2024. Especially when we experience the latest EMUI, the display adds a bonus to the smooth software experience.

Lens and Camera

The rear camera module features a newly upgraded design of the Star Orbit Ring, made with a crafted metal piece. The metal color of the ring manages to be unified with the back cover but still stands out with the CNC metal cutting.

And it’s one of the rare sub-flagships this year where the camera module size gets controlled. So here the whole design looks pretty natural with a less dominant camera island in visual. Huawei has always been innovative when it comes to design sense.

With the metal engraving and the nova logos’ star-array arrangement, the ring’s metallic texture looks even more exquisite. The looks alone are already inspiring enough. However, the second reason I choose to recommend it is its powerful camera performance. The lenses are paired with a 50MP lens with variable apertures, a 3x telephoto portrait lens with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle macro lens, a laser focus sensor, and a ten-channel color temperature sensor.

Now let’s check out how the cameras’ samples convinced us.

The front 60MP portrait lens is excellent for capturing skin tones and details accurately. And the fast and accurate focus performs well in a variety of scenarios. And even another ultra-wide selfie lens easily has great skin detail and expressions with the AI-based boost feature.

The rear 50MP main camera and 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens combination get ideal results in different shooting scenarios and present stunning colors and contrast, even in poor lighting conditions. The main camera supports an adjustable physical aperture of F1.4 to F4.

In auto mode, it would smoothly work without manual operation to deliver an adaptive exposure. Furthermore, you can also manually set up the right aperture gear in Aperture mode.

The 3x telephoto lens is also designed for taking portraits. This lens provides an amazingly natural bokeh effect when shooting stills or portraits, easily highlighting the portraits more artistic. 

The 6x or even 10x shooting based on the 3X lens also works well, as there must be some AI optimization for the digital zooming. But even just with 3X zoom, it still delivers great composition and produces clean and pure portrait shots. And the details of the characters are pretty decent.

As for the ultra-wide lens, considering the 8MP resolution, the best scenes would be Macro shooting. But compared to the telephoto macro, it still has a gap.

Huawei nova 13 Pro’s front-facing 60MP portrait follow focus dual camera not only supports 0.7x-5x portrait full zoom shooting but also has excellent autofocus capabilities, which makes it easy to capture every moment, whether it’s a selfie or a group photo.

For photography enthusiasts, such a configuration is undoubtedly very attractive, as it allows you to take high-quality photos in any situation. We can take a look at the results of portraits taken with different focal lengths.

This multi-focal length feature can make taking photos more interesting and varied, as it allows you to find the most suitable focal length for different scenarios.

When it comes to night scenarios, the Huawei nova 13 Pro still gives us surprises. The 3X telephoto lens supports OIS stabilization and AIS electronic stabilization, which drastically reduces the impact of hand-shaking on image quality.

The OIS improves stability at slightly long exposure, and shooting experience as well. The advantages of the RYYB array and large aperture are pretty obvious.

The image detail is still excellent with decent contrast, and there is no obvious noise or blurring traces in the dark areas.

Huawei nova 13 Pro in the night shooting, the overall color reproduction is spot on, not biased. The colors were able to be correctly shown in the neon lights also without overexposure, and clearly showing the dark details as well.

AI features

Huawei nova 13 series can turn on the AI camera for besides when taking photos. It is efficient and interesting to use AI imaging features.

The AI Erase feature automatically eliminates background clutter and fills in the missing parts of the picture for a natural smooth effect.

I love this feature because it allows me to easily fix unwanted elements after taking a photo to make it look perfect.

The Best expression can do the job of selecting expressions from multiple group photos, making everyone in the group photogenic, and presenting a clear and realistic photo.

Even if someone’s eyes are closed, a quick AI motification can restore the shot to perfection.

Longevity

In addition, the Huawei nova 13 Pro has a large built-in 5000mAh battery, which is combined with 100W fast charging technology to restore power under intense use quickly.

In actual charging, it can be charged to 30% in 5 minutes, 52% in 10 minutes, and full in just 24 minutes, which is the same as the official data. This charging speed gives us a quick charge in any spare time.

Verdict

To summarize, the Huawei nova 13 Pro stands out easily with its stylish design, camera performance, practical software, and reliable battery life. Especially, its exquisite appearance design and powerful photography capacity make it a strong competitor at its price.
