Rabbit R1 debuts at CES 2024, a new AI pocket assistant for streamlining your tasks

At the CES 2024, Rabbit company unveiled the Rabbit R1, an innovative handheld gadget. The Rabbit R1 is the company’s inaugural product and stands out with its compact, square design and red-orange color.

Features of Rabbit R1

The device itself is relatively straightforward in terms of hardware. It features a 2.88-inch touchscreen with rounded corners, designed by Teenage Engineering. It runs on a 2.3GHz MediaTek processor, supported by 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space. The battery is designed for all-day use, and the device includes a unique rotatable camera “eye” which works as a selfie or rear camera.

Additionally, the Rabbit R1 is equipped with a large scroll wheel and a side button for initiating calls. It also has a pair of far-field microphones for voice command input, although it lacks full smartphone functionality despite having a SIM card slot.

Its primary goal is to act as a bridge between users and their smartphones, including iPhones and other devices. The Rabbit R1 and its operating system, Rabbit OS, are designed to simplify user interaction with applications. Instead of users navigating through apps to perform tasks, the Rabbit R1, powered by Atmosic’s proprietary Large Action Model (LAM) similar to large language models used in chatbots like ChatGPT, manages these tasks.

The Rabbit R1 is particularly adept at understanding and executing commands based on natural voice inputs. For instance, a user can just voice a need like, “I need a ride to the airport,” and the Rabbit R1 will handle the rest, such as activating the Uber app and arranging the ride.

The process of training the Rabbit R1 model is consistent across various categories of tasks, including making restaurant reservations, booking airline tickets, adding songs to Spotify playlists, and more. The model’s ability to understand and execute voice commands extends to a wide range of functions and services. This approach differs from traditional user interactions where one would first open an app and then execute the desired action.

Rabbit’s approach with the R1 seems to echo the path taken by Humane’s Ai Pin, focusing on controlling existing user applications through AI, rather than performing tasks independently.

Pricing and Availability

Priced at $199, it offers a cost-effective alternative to Humane’s products and does not require a subscription. The Rabbit R1 is currently available for pre-order, with shipping expected to commence in March.

Honda Unveils Sleek Saloon Concept at CES 2024, Slated for a 2026 Debut

Honda is making a bold move in the electric vehicle (EV) market, as it recently unveiled two innovative electric concepts at CES in Las Vegas. Among these, the Saloon concept stands out with its groundbreaking design, set to redefine the traditional sedan format. Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe announced that a production model, closely mirroring the Saloon, is slated for a U.S. debut in 2026 before becoming globally available.

The design of this EV is a nod to cars from the 70s and the 80s

The Saloon, an embodiment of simplicity and elegance, breaks away from the conventional three-box design of sedans, opting instead for a singular, flowing form. This design is not just a visual delight but also a nod to the wedge-shaped cars of the 70s and 80s, like the iconic Lamborghini Countach. Its low roofline and sleek silhouette aren’t just for show; they’re purposeful designs to minimize drag and maximize range, a critical aspect for EVs.

Honda Saloon

While the Saloon’s more extravagant features, such as its dazzling screen-like grille and grand gull-wing doors, might not transition to the production model, the essence of its design will. This approach marks a significant shift in how concept cars are perceived; they are no longer just dreamy prototypes but a tangible glimpse into the near future.

Additionally, the Saloon is set to inaugurate Honda’s ambitious new EV line, named Honda 0. This lineup promises advancements in EV technology, offering faster charging and improved efficiency over current models. Although details on Honda 0 are scarce, the anticipation is building as 2026 nears. Intriguingly, Honda also showcased the Space Hub concept van, but there’s no confirmation yet if a similar production model will hit the markets.

As we edge closer to 2026, Honda’s vision of an electrified future becomes clearer. The Saloon is more than just a concept; it’s a bold statement by Honda, showcasing their commitment to innovation and a sustainable future. As we eagerly await more details, one thing is certain: the roads of tomorrow will be graced by vehicles that are not only environmentally conscious but also breathtakingly stylish.

Valve Introduces AI Disclosure and Reporting Features on Steam

Valve has recently unveiled a significant update regarding the management of AI-driven content on Steam. This move comes amidst a lively debate surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in the gaming sector. In a fresh approach, the company will implement an “AI disclosure section” in its content surgery. This section requires game developers to clarify how AI is integrated into their games. Notably, Valve distinguishes between pre-generated AI content and live-generated AI. The latter, especially, will be under scrutiny to ensure it doesn’t produce illegal content.

Valve will soon make these disclosures visible on the Steam Store Page

One notable example is “Infestation Origins,” a game that faced allegations of using generative AI in its early stages.

Valve’s initiative also includes making these disclosures visible on the Steam store page. This transparency ensures that customers are fully informed about the AI usage in the games they purchase. Additionally, Valve is introducing a system enabling players to report any illegal content found in games with live-generated AI.

Steam

The swift advancement of generative AI technology has sparked intense discussions about its ethical implications within the gaming industry. Concerns are not just limited to gamers; even video game voice actors are apprehensive, especially in light of a recent SAG-AFTRA deal with an AI studio. Moreover, the rise of low-cost, AI-generated games designed for quick profits has been a point of contention, with many such games surfacing on Steam.

Reflecting on its journey, Valve admitted that understanding and adapting to AI in gaming took time. The company expressed regret for any inconveniences caused to developers but emphasized its commitment to not making hasty decisions in this complex area. Valve’s decision to restrict “Adult Only Sexual Content” created with Live-Generated AI clearly points towards its cautious stance in navigating the AI landscape.

Alibaba Dingtalk

This advancement is not isolated to Alibaba. The entire Chinese tech industry is witnessing a surge in AI integration. ByteDance‘s Feishu, a competitor of DingTalk, also introduced an AI feature, underscoring the trend of embedding AI into workplace tools. These AI agents, based on large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI‘s ChatGPT, are designed to understand and respond to complex queries with a human-like approach.

The new AI agent in DingTalk is powered by Tongyi Qianwen, Alibaba’s own large language model. This move is significant as it positions DingTalk as a more advanced tool for both corporate and educational institutions. The application of AI in DingTalk extends beyond basic tasks. For instance, Belle International, a renowned apparel giant, is using the AI agent to manage logistics like parcel shipment tracking and stock allocation. The integration of AI could spell big things for DingTalk in the future.
