Asus has finally announced the ROG Phone 8 series of gaming phones. In a departure from previous models, the ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro maintain their high performance with flagship chipsets but diverge from the hardcore gaming design seen in their predecessors. Additionally, the ROG Phone 8 series features the most advanced camera system ever integrated into a ROG series phone. Instead of a hard-core gaming phone, the new smartphones carry a daily driver appeal. Here is a look at what’s in store for the buyers of the ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro.

Design and Display

Asus ROG Phone 8: Rebel Grey — Asus ROG Phone 8: Phantom Black

The previously released ROG phones featured thick bezels, but the new ROG Phone 8 series looks attractive from the front as it features a flat display with centred punch-hole and slimmer bezels. Moving to the back, the ROR Phone 8 sports a customizable Aura RGB lighting logo, whereas the Pro variant features a customizable AniMe Vision mini-LED lighting equipped with 341 LEDs. Both devices offer IP68-rated dust and water resistance.

The ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro have a 6.78-inch Samsung AMOLED LTPO display that offers a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 165Hz refresh rate, up to 2,500 nits of peak brightness, glove touch support, and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. Both devices measure 163.8 x 76.8 x 8.9mm and 225 grams, making them thinner and lighter than the ROG Phone 7 series. The ROG Phone 8 comes in shades, such as Rebel Grey and Phantom Black. Specifications and Camera

Under the hood, the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The standard model ships with up to 12 GB / 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage, whereas the Pro variant has 16 GB / 24 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512 GB / 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Both devices house a 5,500mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging, Quick Charge 5.0, and PD charging. Both devices also support 15W Qi wireless charging.

The ROG UI-based Android 14 ships preinstalled on the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro. Both phones feature a conduction cooling system for heat dissipation. The new AeroActive Cooler X accessory for the ROG Phone 8 series is now 29 percent smaller and 10 percent lighter than before and offers a larger contact area.

For an enhanced gaming experience, it comes with the “AI Grabber” feature, which is designed to streamline the process of searching for gaming walkthroughs by recognizing and copying in-game text. To make it easier to find a relevant walkthrough, Asus provided an example of copying a mission objective from a game like Genshin Impact. Additionally, Asus offers some AI-driven features, such as enhanced results through the phone launcher, Gallery, and Settings apps. An upcoming feature called “AI Wallpaper” is also in development, which will generate personalized wallpapers using stable diffusion.

For audio, the ROG Phone 8 series features a 3.5mm audio jack and a 5-magnet speaker system. In addition, both devices offer other features, such as Air Trigger buttons for gaming, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-frequency GPS, NFC, and a USB-C port.

The ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro have a 32-megapixel RGBW camera for snapping selfies. On the back, both phones have a Sony IMX890 50-megapixel main camera with OIS support, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree FOV, and a 32-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS support.

Price and Availability

The ROG Phone 8’s base variant, which offers 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, is priced at $1,099. The ROG Phone 8, offering 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, is priced at $1,199. Today we have a new mini tablet to share with you, the Alldocube iPlay50 mini Pro NFE. It is an Android tablet that would be a new option, it has a pocketable 8.4-inch display, a powerful G99 processor, a 5000mAh battery built in, and dual SIM card support.

If we only get these, it is already a perfect choice for some entertainment, E-book reading, and some light gaming with the 179-dollar price tag. But the true and greatest upgrade of the compact NFE variant is its entertainment prowess, which lies in its Widevine L1 certification. So on the mini tablet, you can enjoy high-quality content streaming on Netflix and other leading platforms.

So by far, it seems to be an undeniable deal. Now let’s get into more details.

Packaging

First of all, If you purchase this tablet, you will be getting the tablet itself, an 18W charging brick, and a power cable. Simple as it is, but it meets your daily needs pretty well.

Design

Now with all the packaging stuff out of the way, let’s see the overall design.

As you can see, this is a pretty small tablet, the 8.4-inch internal display is designed the same way as the iPad mini, but a bit slimmer, so if not for heavy-loading applications, you should be able to get a similar visual experience, but 1/3 of the price!

On top of the display, there is a 5MP front-facing camera and a 130MP rear camera at the back. The power button and volume rocker are on the right side, while on the left side, you have the SIM card tray, where you can put 2 SIM cards or 1 SIM+1 SD card for storage expansion, this is pretty awesome! It’s incredible to see dual 4G network support on such a budget tablet.

Now at the top and bottom, you have the Type-C port and the speaker, and the headphone jack is at the corner. To be honest, I am not quite a fan of their locations, because when I hold the tablet horizontally, either the charging port or the speaker will be blocked. Thankfully, the battery is big, so it does not need to be charged often, and you can have the headphone jack at the top in this case, so there shouldn’t be any problem using this tablet.

Now the back side of this device is connected by a large piece of metal and two plastic kits top and bottom, it’s a good design, it looks and feels premium, and you will like it.

Screen

As for the screen, Other than the size being 8.4 inches, it has 227 PPI, FHD+ resolution, a laminated display panel, and decent specs for daily use. On such a compact size, the clarity is quite good, and it is also sharp. You can comfortably browse through all kinds of content, such as reading books, comics, or watching videos. During these few-day use, the FHD+ resolution plus an 8.4-inch display is a great combo for a light entertaining device. As an affordable model, it doesn’t overdo the display with a high resolution and high refresh rate, which, however, makes its battery easy to last long.

And since the display is much closer to a 16:9 ratio, so there isn’t much gap when watching video content, and it feels even better when reading files also. When you are out and about, sitting in a cafe, watching some videos, this could be the best leisure activity at weekends.

We appreciate these products that do amazing things at an affordable price point. With the just-right screen size, dual-Sim 4G Network, and Widevine L1 certification, the iPlay tablet does the job of providing uninterrupted streaming anywhere and anytime. And it’s not limited to Netflix, it even extends the great compatibility to other streaming platforms like YouTube.

Performance

In terms of Performance, it is powered by Helio G99, an old friend of ours, the capability is so familiar, that we were wondering why this chip is so popular, so we contacted the CEO of MediaTek, and here is the answer from him.

Just kidding, we wouldn’t be able to do that.

So actually, this chip got almost the same score as others, no surprise in that. It can run all the tasks smoothly, the loading is smooth, no hiccups. In some light-load games, it is still a good performer.

We have also tested it in multi-tasking situations, when running a bunch of Apps in the background, the operation is still responsive. In Genshin Impact, when setting the graphics in a middle level, you can still get a good gaming experience. Since this is a much more handful device, your thumbs will be able to cover most of the area where the game needs to be operated, while still see more than it is on a phone.

Other Features

This device is running the original Android 13, with no extra apps installed, no stupid background app killing, just a clean Android experience.

Still, the battery is a Pro level, compared to the non-pro and the ultra versions in the lineup, this one sits in the sweetest spot, this tablet can get you through 1-2days of use without any problem for sure, and the 18W charger can help juice it up pretty quickly.

One thing to mention here is that, there is a case with the keyboard you can buy, so if you need to do some light work, you can still do that, and the cameras can provide good conferencing support.

Verdict

So in the end, I would say this tablet is packed with really good value for small tablet lovers, it scores in every part of the budget tablet category. With a really hand-friendly size, good display, powerful chipset, and expandable storage capability, this tablet can go with you for years. They come with Active-Noise Cancellation (ANC) that can block external noises up to 40dB, ensuring a disturbance-free listening experience. Additionally, they feature a transparency mode that amplifies ambient sounds, making users aware of their surroundings, which is useful in situations like crossing roads or having conversations.

These earbuds are equipped with 12mm premium sound drivers, delivering rich audio quality. They also have an in-ear detection feature that automatically pauses music playback when either earbud is removed from the ear, helping to conserve battery life.

For improved audio call quality, the Tranya Nova Lite earbuds incorporate four microphones. They utilize Bluetooth 5.3 for connectivity, ensuring minimal delay and superior audio quality. Furthermore, these earbuds support multi-device connectivity, allowing seamless use across various devices.

Also, with the “Tranya Audio” app, you get access to features such as modifying the equalizer, customizing the touch controls, upgrading earbuds firmware, renaming/resetting your earbuds, enabling/disabling gaming mode, viewing the battery level of the earbuds/charging case, and more.

Sound Output, Call Quality, and Battery Life

Now, let’s talk about the actual performance of the Tranya Nova Lite.

Starting with the sound output, the Tranya Nova Lite has a very impressive sound stage. The audio playback is clear and you can easily make out the lows, mids, and highs. Also, you can choose to personalize the EQ using the “Tranya Audio” app however you like it.

When it comes to call quality, in our testing, we had a very pleasant experience. We were able to hear the other party loud and clear, and they also mentioned that there was very minimal background noise in our audio.

For battery performance, the earbuds have a 45mAh battery, and the charging case has a 400mAh battery. The claimed battery life figures are up to 8 hours of listening with the earbuds, and up to 32 hours in total with the charging case.

In our testing, we were able to manage around 4.5-5 hours of continuous usage with ANC ON. Which again is a great number for a TWS earbuds.

Verdict

Now, coming to our verdict.

The Tranya Nova Lite is a very affordable pair of Bluetooth TWS earbuds with an impressive performance overall.

With a price tag of $79.99 (currently on Amazon), the earbuds offer almost all the features that we see in earbuds that sit in the $150 – $200 price range. So, for anyone with a tight budget seeking to buy TWS earbuds, this is a recommended option.

However, if the budget can be extended, I would recommend buyers check out the Tranya Nova (non-lite variant). This is because, for a difference of around $40, you can get features such as the Qualcomm aptX 3072 audio chipset, 6 microphones, CVC 8.0 for better audio calls, and much more in terms of features.

As posted in the January 2024 timeline for the ColorOS 14 stable update, the Oppo K10 5G in India and the Oppo A77 5G in Australia are set to see the ColorOS 14 update starting on January 22.

Meanwhile, several Oppo smartphones are already receiving the updates, including the Oppo Find N, Find N2 Flip, Find N3 Flip, Find X5 Pro, Find X5, Find X3 Pro, Reno10 Pro+ 5G, Reno10 Pro 5G, Reno10 5G, Reno8 Pro 5G, Reno8 5G, Reno8, Reno8 T 5G, Reno8 T, Reno7, F23 5G, F21s Pro, and F21 Pro.

After this month, the smartphone foldables, including the Oppo Find N3 in Indonesia and India, will start receiving the ColorOS 14 update. However, some countries already received the Open Beta update a few days ago. The announcement will take place via Oppo Official Community Forums in respective regions.

It is not the first timeline that Oppo has published; the smartphone maker publishes an updated timeline every month. Other compatible devices will receive the update next month or in the coming time.

ColoroS 14 Features

Well, ColorOS 14 brings several new changes, including a full design overhaul, performance optimization, and stability improvements. ColorOS 14 introduces Aquamorphic Design, enhancing sound effects, color systems, and interactions. It also revamps the Always-On Display (AOD) with the Homeland AOD, showcasing nature scenes and linking Environment Vision pages to daily steps. AI-powered Smart Touch streamlines daily tasks, while Smart Image Matting and Trinity Engine upgrades enhance image editing. A recent official report from the Xiaomi Smart ecosystem indicates that the lineup of products under the Smart Camera Series has surpassed 11 million units in sales. The official poster provided a breakdown of the sales of the popular lineup of smart cameras from Xiaomi.

The Xiaomi Smart Camera series was ranked first in China as the most patronized surveillance camera in 2022 and the first half of 2023. The data covers both online and offline sales across multiple platforms. The impressive numbers point to the growing popularity of the Xiaomi Smart Camera lineup and their overall acceptability in China. The Xiaomi Smart Camera series includes the Xiaomi Smart Camera PTZ Edition SE+, Xiaomi Smart Camera 2 AI Enhanced Edition, Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 Pro PTZ Edition 2K, and the Xiaomi Smart Camera Standard Edition 2K. Some other models in the lineup are the Xiaomi Smart Camera 2 PTZ Edition, and the Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 PTZ Edition.

The lineup offers varied choices to users and this versatility in pricing could be a major driver of the increased sales of the Xiaomi Smart Camera series in China. One of the picks of the lineup is the Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 Pro priced at 319 yuan ($45). It is equipped with a 5MP lens and supports 3K image quality and uses ultra-low light full color. It has a built-in high-sensitivity image sensor that adapts to dark light for optimized capturing.

The Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 Pro was released in September 2023 and has an infrared fill light with support for humanoid detection. This positive shift is buoyed by indications of an industry-wide recovery, as DRAM and NAND flash chip prices experienced a rebound in Q4.

The encouraging trends in DRAM and NAND prices reveal a promising outlook for the semiconductor industry in 2024. Mobile DRAM chip prices witnessed an 18 to 23% increase, while mobile NAND flash chip prices rose by 10 to 15% in the last quarter. These price hikes underscore a positive trajectory for the sector, fueling optimism for a broader recovery in the upcoming year.

Samsung’s production strategy, characterized by a cut in production since H1 2023, seems to be adapting to the changing market dynamics. In Q4, there are indications of gearing up for increased DRAM chip production, including an uptake in silicon wafers. The company’s aggressive stance in selling memory chips in Q4, especially in comparison to competitors like SK Hynix, signals an effort to lower inventory levels and align with market demands.

Despite challenges in the mobile business, Samsung is expected to show an operating profit of around 2.5 trillion won. However, shipments of flagship foldable models are estimated to have fallen by about 1 million units each compared to Q3. The mobile segment’s performance, affected by declining sales volumes of flagship smartphones with flexible displays, underscores the challenges faced by Samsung in this competitive market.

Investors keenly await the preliminary results set to be announced this week, as Samsung’s profit decline is considered a significant indicator for the entire semiconductor market. Despite the negative dynamics, the slowdown in the profit decline is viewed as a positive signal for investors, offering a glimpse of potential stability in the semiconductor industry.

Analysts, however, remain cautious, predicting a 35% year-on-year decline in Samsung’s operating profit to $2.82 billion for the last quarter. The latest story about the Apple Watch relates to a student who suffered carbon monoxide poisoning and managed to use the SOS call feature which enabled her to get speedy help.

The student is named Natalie Nasatka, a Delaware student, and the story was originally aired on CBS. Natalie narrowly avoided death from excessive carbon monoxide inhalation by hitting the SOS button on her Apple Watch as she began to lose consciousness and was feeling extremely exhausted. The deadly carbon monoxide fumes were emanating from a faulty heater in Natalie’s room. Carbon monoxide is an odorless and tasteless gas that is hard to detect but very deadly. It can be detected by carbon monoxide detectors in the home but Miss Nasatka did not have a carbon monoxide detector at home at the time of the incident.

The SOS message was immediately acted on by the authorities and firefighters arrived at Miss Nasatka’s residence and dragged her out of bed to safety. The Apple Watch was critical in saving the life of the lady, as is the case with several survivors. Indeed, life-saving stories have become a critical part of the marketing strategy for Apple Watches. There are lots of features in the Apple Watch that have provided critical life-saving impact on users. The Apple Watch has an array of health and fitness monitoring capabilities including heart rate, blood oxygen, and more. The SOS call feature is also critical in providing needed access to emergency services.

After release timelines leaked multiple times in the past, Apple today has officially announced the availability of the Vision Pro in the US. The mix-reality headset was announced at WWDC last year. The Cupertin-based tech giant has revealed the pricing and availability details of the device along with its bundled accessories. Commenting on the official release, CEO Tim Cook said that the era of spatial computing has arrived. It is touted to be the most advanced consumer electronics device created.

Apple Vision Pro official availability details are out

The Apple Vision Pro carries a starting price tag of $3,499 for the 256GB variant. The company hinted that there will be other models. The mixed-reality headset will go up for pre-orders starting January 19 through Apple’s online store. It will start shipping from February 2. The Vision Pro will also be available at the brand’s official stores from February 2.

The Apple Vision Pro comes with a Solo Knit Band and Dual Loop Band. This gives users two options for fit that works best for them. The brand is also bundling a Light Seal, two Light Seal Cushions, and an Apple Vision Pro Cover for the front of the device. There is a polishing cloth, a battery, a USB-C cable, and a USB-C adapter.

Apple also revealed details of the lens attachments for vision correction needs. The ZEISS Optical Inserts Readers will be available for $99 whereas the prescription lens will cost $149 in the US.

The Apple Vision Pro boasts ultra-high-resolution dual OLED displays. It is powered by Apple M2 and Apple R1 dual chipsets. The mixed-reality headset incorporates 12 cameras and 6 microphones. In the realm of wearable smartwatches, battery life is everything. The Garmin Lily 2 doesn’t explicitly mention its battery capacity, but the company’s claim, it has a lithium-ion battery that provides up to a full five days of usage. Considering both models are 25.4 mm in size, it’s reasonable to assume this applies to both of them.

The X series is the company’s mid-range smartphone lineup. It is a step below the flagship F series and above the budget M series in the brand’s product lineup.

Over the last few days, we have been hearing a lot about these phones via leaks and official teasers. Ahead of their announcement, we have compiled everything we know about them so far.

1. Poco X6 Series Launch Date

The Poco X6 series is scheduled to launch on January 11. It will be unveiled at an event that will begin at 8 PM GMT+8 (5:30 PM IST).

The lineup will consist of two devices, namely Poco X6 and Poco X6 Pro. They will be accompanied by Poco M6 Pro in some markets.

2. Poco X6 Series Specifications

Just like most Poco devices, the latest X6 series handsets are tweaked versions of existing Redmi phones. To be precise, the X6 is a rebranded Redmi Note 13 Pro, whereas the X6 Pro is a rebadged Redmi K70e.

Both smartphones will sport a 6.67-inch flat OLED display with a resolution of 2712 x 1220 pixels (1.5K), a 120Hz refresh rate, and Dolby Vision support.

Under the hood, the X6 will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC. On the other hand, the X6 Pro will be packing a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra chip.

The X6 will come with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. While the X6 Pro will feature faster LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

On the software front, the Poco X6 Pro will ship with Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS based on Android 14. But the vanilla Poco X6 will boot the older Android 13-based MIUI 14.

Both handsets will come with a similar camera system. Their setup will include an OIS-assisted 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide unit, and a 2MP macro snapper. On the front, they will be equipped with a 16MP selfie camera.

The duo will arrive with an in-screen fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster, and dual stereo speakers.

As for the battery, the X6 will draw energy from a 5,100mAh unit and support 67W charging. Whereas, the X6 Pro will be backed by a larger 5,500mAh battery and support 90W charging.

3. Poco X6 Series Expected Price

Generally, Poco products are priced lower than the Redmi devices they are based on.

Since the Redmi Note 13 Pro starts at ₹25,999 in India, the Poco X6 will likely be cheaper than that. We don’t have an estimation on the global price as the said Redmi handset is yet to go official in international markets.

Similarly, we don’t know how much the Poco X6 Pro will cost. That’s because the original Redmi K70e is a China-exclusive smartphone.
