Honor Magic V2, Magic UI 7.0 tipped to launch in December

Honor is reportedly working on its next foldable phone. Speculations are rife that it may debut in the Chinese market with the Honor Magic V2 moniker. A tipster from China has hinted at the launch timeframe of the Magic V2. In addition, another leak that surfaced revealed its battery capacity.

According to a Chinese tipster, the Magic V2 foldable phone and the Magic UI 7.0 will be announced together in December 2022. He added that the Magic V2 will be a thinner and lighter device as compared to its predecessor, the Honor Magic V, which debuted in January this year.

Unfortunately, there is no information on the specifications of the Magic V2. Since Chinese smartphone OEMs have been busy launching Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 powered devices, it appears that the same chip may power the Magic V2.

Recently, tipster Digital Chat Station claimed that Honor’s upcoming foldable phone will be equipped with a dual-cell 2,030mAh / 2,870mAh battery. He added that the battery offered a combined typical value of around 5,000mAh. To recall, the predecessor model was equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and a 4,750mAh battery.

Several Chinese brands are gearing up to launch their foldable phones in the remaining months of this year. Recent reports have revealed that OPPO’s foldable phone will be called the OPPO Find N Fold, whereas Vivo’s iteration will be dubbed as the Vivo X Fold S.. Huawei is also expected to launch its foldable smartphone in December this year. These devices will compete with the likes of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 that have recently gone official in China.

Samsung and Motorola have recently launched the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Moto Razr 2022 clamshell phones with foldable displays. Reports have claimed that OPPO and Huawei are also working on their clamshell devices.

Apple wants to expand its Advertising business, may soon bring more ads to iPhones: Report

Advertising is not Apple’s lifeblood; it relies more on hardware sales. However, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is looking to expand its Ad business and is aiming to bring annual revenue into the “double digits”. The company is projected to bring ads to more of the apps that come pre-installed on the iPhone and other Apple devices, including Maps, Books, and Podcasts.

Gurman claims that Apple has already tested incorporating sponsored results to search results in the Maps app. A similar advertising strategy has been established by the company on the App Store, where developers may pay to have their app promoted on a search page for a specific query.

apple logo featured

Apple might potentially add advertisements to its built-in Books and Podcasts apps too. This would make it possible for publishers to add advertisements to specific app areas or pay to boost their content in search results. Books, Podcasts, and Maps are all currently ad-free.

Apple ads revenue currently comes from the App Store Search Ads, ads in Apple News, and a few more sources. The company’s total ad revenue is $4 billion and it is reportedly aiming to triple its ad revenue to double-digit figures.

Gurman also makes reference to the possibility of advertising on Apple TV Plus, he claims that the Cupertino company may decide to establish a less expensive ad-supported tier, similar to what Netflix and Disney Plus are planning to do by the end of this year.

Apple’s smartphone sales have declined significantly in recent years. To counter that, the company has resorted to various revenue-generating services, including ads. While more ads will definitely boost Apple’s revenue, it will also ruin the overall user experience.

Pete Lau teases an upcoming OnePlus Foldable Smartphone

Foldable smartphones are the talk of the town these days. We recently saw Samsung’s latest Flip 4 and Fold 4. Xiaomi also refreshed its foldable segment with the launch of Mix Fold 2 and Motorola too unveiled the new Razr 2022. Now, a recent tweet by Pete Lau suggests that OnePlus is also ready to try its hands on foldable devices.

OnePlus’ CEO and co-founder Pete Lau recently shared a few pictures on Twitter asking his followers “What do you think this is?”. The pictures appear to be the hinge mechanism of a phone. It could possibly be used in the upcoming OnePlus foldable. Lau’s tweet did not reveal any details about the moniker or design of the smartphone. However, it is speculated that the upcoming OnePlus foldable will be similar to Oppo’s Find N.

Details about the device are still pretty short. Previous reports have claimed that the foldable may debut in 2023. OnePlus entering the foldable smartphone market is good news because it will give rise to more competition and better products. But let’s just hope OnePlus doesn’t drop an exact copy of Oppo Find N with Hasselblad plastered cameras.

Currently, the foldable smartphone market is largely dominated by Samsung. The company has been doing a great job in improving its devices and also making them accessible to more people. Xiaomi has also done a commendable job with the Mix Fold 2. It is arguably the thinnest foldable we’ve seen so far.

We are also patiently waiting for Oppo to drop the successor to the Find N. The company is said to have a bunch of Foldable smartphones in the pipeline and may launch them later this year.
