Apple to start iPhone 14 production in India for the first time at launch: Kuo

The launch of the Apple iPhone 14 is just around the corner. But prior to any official announcement, an analyst has revealed that the company will start production of the newest iPhone lineup for the first time ever at launch.

Apple

For those unaware, the Cupertino based giant has began production of its latest iPhones in recent years. However, the region began production of these newly launched iPhones typically around a quarter or more behind its primary production hub, which is China. But now, it appears that the brand is planning on having the Indian production to go hand in hand with the Chinese production for the first time.

The news arrives from known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claimed that Apple supplier Foxconn will start the production of the 6.1 inch iPhone 14 “simultaneously with China” in the second half of this year. He further added that India’s iPhone shipments will still have a considerable gap with China in the short term, but it is still a milestone in Apple’s efforts to diversify its supply chain outside of China.

Apple

The iPhone maker has been working on expanding its production to regions outside of China, with Vietnam and India being newer and upcoming nations. Notably, the analyst stated that another one of the reasons that Apple is moving its production away from China is due to geopolitical reasons. Additionally, it has identified the Indian market as the next key growth driver and plans to expand its production in the region.

Razer announces the NIU X Razer SQi Edition e-scooter exclusive to China

The electric scooter market is on an upswing move with a raft of new entrants into the scene. Razer has teamed up with NIU to announce the NIU X Razer SQi Edition electric scooter. The model sports a distinct and appealing design and is a culmination of the Razer-NIU collaboration.NIU X Razer SQi Edition e-scooter

The NIU-Razer e-scooter was released on August 2 in China. It is a limited-edition smart e-scooter with a top speed of 25km/h. It weighs about 50kg and is well-suited for daily urban commutes with a range of 65km. The e-scooter looks incredible and could be a strong reason for ditching public transport altogether. Razer and NIU are strong brands and this collaboration could be a win-win situation for both brands. It is expected that the Razer-NIU partnership will blossom further with more niche offerings on the way. Many of the specs of the new e-scooter are still unclear.

The e-scooter is currently only available in China but it has enjoyed an overwhelming demand. According to Razer’s CEO, the new e-scooter sold out within a couple of seconds after its China release. There are no indications at this time whether the availability of the scooter will be scaled up beyond China.

The NIU X Razer SQi Edition retailed in China for 9,999 yuan (~$1,482) and its instant appeal in China could indicate its exquisiteness. Being a limited-edition e-scooter, neither NIU nor Razer have hinted whether more units are expected. Delivery information is also lacking at this time.

Vivo V25 Pro with Dimensity 1300 SoC benchmarked on GeekBench

The Vivo V25 Pro is likely to be released in India on August 17. Ahead of the launch, a GeekBench result sheet for the device has appeared online. Although we couldn’t independently verify the listing on GeekBench’s database, the sheet which looks genuine shows the device will pack a Dimensity 1300 process. The details align with those we saw from the Google Play Console listing for the Vivo V25 Pro (V2158).Vivo V25 Pro

The listing also shows that the V25 Pro will be available in more than one memory configuration. The model that was benchmarked has 12GB of RAM but the earlier listing was of an 8GB RAM model. Additionally, the smartphone will undoubtedly contain the virtual RAM function that has recently gained in popularity. To better understand how virtual RAM has grown, the vivo Y35 will have the same 8GB virtual RAM capacity as the actual RAM). As expected, the phone’s interface will be provided by Android 12.Vivo V25 Pro

The Google Play Console listing equally shows that the vivo V25 Pro will have an FHD+ display resolution of 1,080 x 2,376 pixels. The phone is also confirmed to pack an AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Unverified rumors also state that the phone will support 66W rapid charging. The V23 series’ color-changing trick will be repeated on the back.

According to rumors, the vivo V25 Pro will have a triple camera system with a 64MP primary module. A 32MP selfie camera with OIS and EIS, identical to the V21 phones from the previous year, should feature on the front.

The V25 Pro is likely to be priced at less than Rs. 40,000 (~$505). The vanilla vivo V25 (V2202) will employ the slower Dimensity 900 chipset and will be released at the same time.

Apple iPad 2022 CAD renders reveals design ahead of launch

Back in September 2021, Apple had announced its latest 9th generation of iPad. Now, the company is preparing to release its next gen iPads later this year. But prior to any official announcement, the CAD renders of the iPad 2022 has been spotted, revealing its design.

Apple

The CAD renders were exclusively shared by MySmartPrice. These images offers us a first look at the 10th generation of iPad and its design in its full glory. Previously, we had covered reports regarding the tablet finally switching to the USB Type C standard for charging and data transfer but these CAD renders do not confirm this feature. Looking at these images, we can also tell that the next gen model will be similar to the 9th gen iPads in terms of design, with the front camera on top and Touch ID on the bottom of the display.

Furthermore, the screen panel is also flanked by noticeable bezels on all four sides. On the rear, the renders depict a lone rear camera sensor like its predecessor. However, unlike the 9th gen iPads, the upcoming version will have a small oval shaped camera module, similar in design to the iPhone X series. This houses the single camera as well as an LED flash module. Apart from this, the one notable aspect on the back is the Cupertino based giant’s brand logo.

Apple

On the bottom of the device, we can see the speaker grilles, which are a part of the quad speaker setup, with the other two speakers being housed on the the top. We can see its charging port, but its covered in red, so it is unclear whether it is a Type C port or the Apple Lightning port. Based on what we know so far, the 10th gen iPad will be powered by the A14 chipset that was featured on the iPhone 12 series and could sport a larger 10.5 inch or 10.9 inch Retina display. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stick around for more updates.

Upcoming Smartphones: Galaxy Z Fold 4, OnePlus Ace Pro, Motorola Razr 2022, and more

Originally, there was going to be a single smartphone launch event next week. But now, two of the conferences that got postponed this week may take place next week. Hence, the number of events has increased to three.

The biggest conference of all will be Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event for its next-gen foldable phones. Whereas, the second most important one will be by Motorola, which is again for a foldable handset.

The third and final event will be by OnePlus to debut its latest flagship smartphone in China, which went official internationally a few days back.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at all the phones that are launching next week.

Upcoming Smartphones Next Week

1. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4

Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is scheduled to take place on August 10. It will begin at 9 AM ET (6:30 PM IST). The conference will be live-streamed on the company’s official YouTube channel. Viewers can also opt to experience the event in the metaverse (Samsung 837X).

The South Korean electronics giant is expected to announce five products at this conference. But only two of them will be smartphones: Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The company’s next-gen foldables are said to arrive with minor changes and a spec bump when compared to their predecessors. Also, Samsung may drop the ‘Z’ branding, and therefore, the devices could be simply called Galaxy Fold 4 and Galaxy Flip 4.

These handsets are expected to be accompanied by three accessories. Two of them will be smartwatches dubbed Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Whereas, the third one will be a pair of truly wireless earphones called Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

2. Motorola Razr 2022, Moto Edge X30 Pro, and Moto S30 Pro

Motorola Moto X30 Pro

The Motorola event was originally scheduled for August 2 in China, however, it got postponed indefinitely. The company was supposed to announce three devices, namely Motorola Razr 2022, Moto Edge X30 Pro, and Moto S30 Pro.

The Lenovo-owned brand is yet to announce the new launch date. But as per JD (retailer), the first two phones may go on sale on August 11. This suggests that the event could either take place on or before the supposed sale date.

Talking about the handsets, the Motorola Razr 2022 is the company’s third-gen foldable smartphone. It will compete against the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. Further, the Moto Edge X30 Pro is the world’s first smartphone with a 200MP main camera. Finally, the Moto S30 Pro is a flagship killer smartphone.

3. OnePlus Ace Pro

OnePlus 10T
OnePlus 10T (aka OnePlus Ace Pro)

The OnePlus Ace Pro was supposed to launch on August 3 in China. But its conference got postponed, just like Motorola’s. Anyway, the device went official in other markets in the form of OnePlus 10T as planned on the same day. It may now release in its home country next week at the earliest.

The only difference between the OnePlus Ace Pro and the OnePlus 10T is the software. The Chinese version of the handset boots ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12. While the global variant runs OxygenOS 12.1, which is basically a clone of ColorOS 12.1.

The main highlights of the phone include Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, up to 16GB RAM, 150W fast wired charging support, and an OIS-assisted 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera.

Chromebook and tablet shipments declined for fourth consecutive quarter: Canalys

Global Chromebook and tablet shipments declined for a second consecutive quarter in Q2 2022. The shipments fell 14% to 105 million units, according to research firm Canalys. The sharp decline is said be caused by a number of factors, including rising inflation, COVID-related lockdowns in China, and declines in consumer and education spending.

According to a report by Canalys, global Chromebook and tablet shipments have continued to suffer in the second quarter of 2022. The shipment of tablets decreased for the fourth consecutive quarter, this time by 11% year over year, to 34.8 million devices worldwide. The demand for Chromebooks continued to decline for a fourth straight quarter, albeit at a significantly sharper rate, with shipments falling by 57 percent to 5.1 million units in Q2 2022 as the demand from the education sector remained weak.

Global tablet shipment in q2 2022

In the tablet market, Apple retained the lead but suffered a significant decline, falling 15% to 12.1 iPads worldwide. Despite a 13 % annual decline, Samsung ended up in the second spot with 7.0 million units supplied, preserving its market share. With 3.5 million fewer shipments than the previous year, Lenovo came in third place. Amazon managed to ship 3.3 million units and remained in fourth place with a rise of 6%. With 1.7 million tablets supplied and a year-over-year decline of 26%, Huawei finished fifth.

global chromebook shipment q2 2022

The spike in educational demand in key markets a year ago caused the global Chromebook market to falter. Acer became the market leader for Chromebooks in Q2 2022, securing almost 25% of the market despite a fall in shipments of only 28% compared to its main rivals. Following a 56 percent decline in shipments from a year earlier, Lenovo managed to maintain second place. Due to its dependency on the US education sector, HP had the greatest decline of the top suppliers, with a 79 percent decline in shipments. The remaining top five was comprised of Dell and Asus.

As the launch of the Huawei Mate 50 series smartphone is expected to take place on 7th September, we expect the company to soon make an announcement for the launch date and start teasing the upcoming phone’s features.

Samsung reportedly cuts production due to slowdown in global demand

Samsung, the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer, has reportedly cut down production of its devices at the massive plant in Vietnam due to the global fall in consumer spending

The report, coming from Reuters, cites employees as the source. The scale back of production comes as the retailers and warehouses deal with a rising inventory.

samsung logo ces booth featured

As per the report, America’s largest warehouse market is full and the major retailers in the United States have warned of slowing sales given that shoppers are not spending as much as they used to before and during the early era of the pandemic.

One of the workers at the plant told Reuters, “We are going to work just three days per week, some lines are adjusting to a four-day workweek instead of six before, and of course, no overtime is needed.”

The manufacturing plant in Vietnam’s northern province of Thai Nguyen has been the most affected. It is one of the two mobile manufacturing bases in the country where Samsung produces half of its smartphones.

While Samsung says that it has not discussed reducing its annual production target in Vietnam, the South Korean giant is optimistic about smartphone demand in the second half of the year as it said during its earnings call last week that supply disruptions had mostly been resolved and that demand would either stay flat or see single-digit growth.

Design

The most refined design belongs to the OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G, at least in my opinion. First of all, it has narrower bezels around the display, with the screen covering more than 90 percent of the front panel. It is made with premium materials: the rear side is made of glass, while the frame is aluminum, while the OnePlus 10T has a glass back and a plastic frame. The front glass of the Reno is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, one of the most advanced protection by Corning, and the same is for the rear glass and the front glass of the 10T. The Reno has a thinner and lighter design: it weighs just 183 grams and is 7.3 mm thick, while the OnePlus weighs more than 200 grams and is 8.8 mm thick. In my opinion, there is no challenge here: OPPO made a better device in terms of design.

Display

The displays of the OnePlus 10T and the OPPO Reno8 Pro Global should be exactly the same panel because the specifications are the same. They come with an AMOLED display sporting a diagonal of 6.7 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification. These displays are able to show up to one billion colors with great accuracy and they include an in-display fingerprint reader. We are not talking about the most advanced panels in the market, but they are definitely among the most advanced ones. Both the handsets come with stereo speakers, but they have no audio jack. As already mentioned above, the displays are protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and they have very narrow bezels, but the bezels are narrower on the Reno. The displays come with punch holes placed in the central part.

Specs & Software

The best and most powerful hardware department belongs to the OnePlus 10T. It is fueled by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform: currently the best processor by Qualcomm. It is an SoC built at 4 nm with an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X2 CPU running at a max frequency of 3.19 GHz, three Cortex A710 CPUs running at 2.75 GHz, four Cortex A710 CPUs running at a frequency of 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 730 GPU. The chipset is paired with a very advanced cooling system, up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. There are also configurations with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of native storage. The OPPO Reno8 Pro is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Max mobile platform built at 5 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.85 GHz: it is comparable to the Snapdragon 888 by Qualcomm and it is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Both the phones run Android 12 out of the box and they have similar user interfaces: ColorOS 12.1 and OxygenOS 12.

Camera

The camera sensors placed on the rear sides of these two phones are exactly the same: they sport a 50 MP Sony IMX766 main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP macro camera. But there are two important differences: the OnePlus 10T includes optical stabilization (OIS), while the OPPO Reno8 Pro is aided by the MariSilicon X proprietary NPU improving night photography. The selfie cameras are different: the Reno is superior thanks to its 32 MP selfie shooter, while the 10T has an inferior 16 MP front camera.

Battery

The battery life of the OnePlus 10T will be longer thanks to the presence of a bigger 4800 mAh battery. This phone will even charge quicker thanks to 150W fast charging. The OPPO Reno8 Pro has a 4500 mAh battery with 80W fast charging.

Price

The OnePlus 10T is priced at Rs. 49,999 in India which roughly translates into $632, while the OPPO Reno8 Pro costs Rs. 45,999 or $581. Which of these phones would you pick?

EV maker Nio incorporates mobile phone arm, could deliver first phone in 2023

The dividing line between EV manufacturing and mobile technologies can be a fuzzy one. Some tech brands have mooted diversifying to EV manufacturing. Now, popular Chinese EV company Nio has entered the mobile technology space. The incorporation of Nio Mobile Technologies Co. Ltd is now official. The entity is wholly owned by Nio and it has scaled the needed regulatory requirements. The new company has a registered capital of $100 million.Nio

The legal representative of the new Nio tech company is Qin Lihong, Nio’s co-founder and current president. The registered address of Nio Mobile Technologies is the global HQ of Nio in Anting, Shanghai. The new company is officially a software developer and AI hardware developer. It is the first of Nio’s growing subsidiaries that specifically targets the mobile tech business. The rumored Nio phone is speculated to arrive next year. The Nio CEO was earlier quoted as saying that the company is planning to develop a mobile phone that will launch once a year.

Nio already has substantial capabilities in mobile technologies through its highly connected Nio EVs. The models take full advantage of advanced technologies to deliver a great experience using the Nio EVs. It is expected that the Nio phone when it arrives, will fit snugly into the Nio ecosystem and deliver a seamless driving experience. There is no definitive official statement from Nio yet on its smartphone plans.Nio mobile technology

In any case, a Nio phone could be a delight to behold. It will likely build on the exquisite design of the Nio EVs and incorporate a suite of exciting features. It is also speculated that the Nio phone will be less expensive than an iPhone.

NIO isn’t the first Chinese EV maker that has made an attempt to venture into other segments of the tech market. Last year, BYD launched a smartwatch that can be used to unlock its cars.

Moto X30 Pro, Razr 2022 May Go on Sale on August 11

Motorola X30 Pro and Razr 2022 were scheduled to debut on August 2 but for some reason, the launch event was canceled at the last moment. While we are still waiting for a new launch date, the pre-booking page for the Moto X30 Pro and Razr 2022 hinted that the two phones may go on sale on August 11.

Motorola is yet to announce the new dates for the launch of the upcoming Moto X30 Pro and Razr 2022. However, the phones are already up for pre-order on Jingdong and the deadline for the same is displayed to be 19:59 on August 11 (via IThome). This hints that both the Moto smartphones may go for sale on August 11.

In addition, Motorola executive Chen Jin shared a half-folded image of the Moto Razr 2022, displaying the external display of the foldable. Interestingly, the time shown on the watch on the external screen was also 2:00 pm on August 11. Could it be an easter egg? Possible, but nothing is certain as of now and all we can do is wait for an official announcement.

Moto Razr 2022 cover screen

Moto Razr 2022 will be equipped with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 flagship processor. It will likely sport a 50-megapixel main camera accompanied by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera on the rear, and a 32-megapixel camera on the front. The foldable could have a 6.7-inch inner screen that supports FHD+ resolution and a high refresh rate of 120Hz, and an outer screen of 3 inches. The new phone is also said to use an upgraded hinge.

Moto X30 Pro, on the other hand, will also be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ processor. The smartphone will come with a focus on photography, it will have a sensor with a 1/1.22” super outsole. It will also sport an 85mm portrait eye lens with three different focal lengths. It will support 125W fast charging.
