Alleged Xiaomi CIVI 2’s key specifications tipped, likely to launch soon

The Xiaomi CIVI was announced last year in September as a female-focused smartphone. The selfie-centric handset came with a slim design, a 120Hz display, 32-megapixel front camera, and Snapdragon 778G. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the Chinese manufacturer is working on a selfie-focused smartphone in China. The specifications shared by the tipster suggest that it could be a CIVI branded smartphone.

Alleged Xiaomi CIVI 2 specifications

The Chinese tipster revealed that the mysterious Xiaomi phone will be equipped with a thin and lightweight chassis. Its OLED display will offer a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 778G Plus is likely to fuel the smartphone.

The leak has no information on the RAM/storage capacities and battery size of the smartphone. However, it states that the device will have support for 55W fast charging. Xiaomi may announce the smartphone as early as this month or in April.

The above leak suggests that the next CIVI model could be an incremental upgrade over the Xiaomi CIVI model. To recall, the original model featured a 6.55-inch curved edge OLED panel that offers a Full HD+, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. The Snapdragon 778G chip powers the device with 8 GB / 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB of storage. It has a 32-megapixel selfie camera and a 64-megapixel (main) + 8-megapixel (ultrawide) + 2-megapixel (macro) triple camera unit. The device packs a 4,500mAh battery that carries support for 55W rapid charging.

Apple iPhone 13 series gets a new Dark Green color option; goes on sale from March 18

At the “Peek Performance” event, along with the new iPhone SE, iPad Air, and Mac devices, the Cupertino-based technology giant Apple also introduced a new color option for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models.

The color for the iPhone 13 is simply called Green while for the iPhone 13 Pro, it is named Alpine Green. Both the devices in this new color option will be available for pre-order from Friday and will go on sale from 18th March.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro Green Color

Although both the shades are looking similar, the Alpine Green color for the Pro series models appears a bit metallic. The company says that it was made with multiple layers of nanometer-scale metallic ceramics applied across the surface.

The Apple iPhone 13 Pro in Alpine Green is an addition to the already available four colors — Gold, Silver, Graphite, and Sierra Blue. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 now comes in six colors — Green, Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and Product(Red).

We previously reported about Apple planning to introduce a new color option for the iPhone 13 series during the “Peek Performance” event and it has turned out to be true. Last year also, in the month of March, the company had introduced a new Purple color for the iPhone 12 series smartphones.

HMD Global has no plan of launching Nokia flagship smartphones

HMD Global, the company behind the Nokia-branded smartphones has been launching new entry-level and budget smartphones as well as feature phones in the market. But it’s been a few years since we got a premium device from the brand.

If you have been waiting for a flagship smartphone from Nokia, then you are in for a disappointment. HMD Global has confirmed that the company has no plans of launching a flagship or premium smartphone anytime soon.

Nokia Logo

The company has confirmed that the brand will be focusing on the core business for new, which includes entry-level and mid-range smartphones along with feature phones. It wants to offer durable devices with multi-day battery life and an affordable price tag.

This new strategy of Nokia appears to be working as the company achieved a full year of operational profitability. The company has been profitable since Q3 2020 and Q4 2021 was the most profitable quarter in its history.

Nokia 9 PureView was the last flagship smartphone launched by the company in 2019 and since then, there has been no new premium device from the brand. There were rumors about a follow-up PureView smartphone with a focus on the camera department but the device has been delayed several times and now there’s no update regarding the phone.

It appears that HMD Global has made a good choice here given that not all the brands can perform well in the premium smartphones market, especially when the market is dominated by a select few companies. Given that the major brands like BlackBerry, HTC, and to some extent Sony have bowed out of the smartphone market, sticking with what works best for Nokia seems to be a smart choice.

Apple launches the iPhone SE (2022) with A15 Bionic, 5G, wireless charging

Apple, Tuesday, held its “Peek performance” event where a number of interesting products were unveiled. While the M1 Ultra chipset could be termed the most interesting product announced, the US company also took the wraps off a new affordable iPhone – the iPhone SE (2022). iPhone SE 2022

The iPhone SE 2022 is the third iteration in the series and it takes over the rein from the iPhone SE (2020) that was launched in (you guessed right) 2020. Thus, the product comes with lots of expectations and has been a regular in the rumor mill.

The iPhone SE (2022) comes with several interesting features onboard. You get the latest flagship A15 Bionic chipset that is utilized by the iPhone 13 series. This brings 5G connectivity support to the budget iPhone. The phone is also fairly priced, starting at $429, just a tad higher than the iPhone SE 2020 which retails for $399. iPhone SE (2022)

Design-wise, the iPhone SE 2022 retains the outdated design utilized on the iPhone SE 2020 which is also similar to the iPhone 8’s design. At the rear, the device packs a single 12MP camera nested at the top left corner of the back panel which is made from glass.

At the front, the device features a 4.7-inch display with large bezels at the top and bottom edges. The display and back panel is protected by glass which Apple termed the “toughest glass on a smartphone”, which is perhaps the proprietary Ceramic Shield. The device also packs a Touch ID fingerprint reader right below the screen.

In addition, the iPhone SE (2022) gains 5G connectivity but does not support 5G mmWave bands. Instead, it utilizes the sub-6 GHz band. The efficient A15 Bionic onboard also brings improvement in the battery life of the budget iPhone. There is also support for IP67 water and dust resistance. Although, there were speculations that the device will have MagSafe charging support but it doesn’t. However, the device supports Qi wireless charging.iPhone SE (2022)

The new iPhone SE (2022) is available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. In terms of colors, the phone will be available in midnight, starlight, and PRODUCT Red colorway. Pricing starts at $429 for the 64GB version and the device is expected to go on sale from March 18 in 30 countries including the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The iPhone SE 3 will be available to pre-order from March 11.

RBI Launches UPI for feature phones: How it works

The Unified Payment Interface aka UPI has become the most popular payment method next to cash for daily transactions in India. And in a recent push to make the service even more accessible, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das on Tuesday launched a new digital payment mode called UPI 123Pay for features phones, which, he said, will allow India’s 40 crore feature phone users to access the payment service.

Governor Das also launched a helpline for digital payments, ‘DigiSaathi’ in a special RBI event. He said that ‘excluded people’ from the lower rung of society, especially in rural areas, will now be able to access UPI services.

UPI 123Pay will also help RBI reach its objective of a less-cash economy, Das added, saying that more limited payment options will be available to feature phone users.

How “UPI 123Pay” will work

Feature phone users will now be able to undertake a host of transactions based on four technology alternatives. They include calling an IVR (interactive voice response) number, app functionality in feature phones, missed call-based approach, and also proximity sound-based payments, the RBI said.

Such users can initiate payments to friends and family, pay utility bills, recharge the FAST Tags of their vehicles, pay mobile bills and also allow users to check account balances, it said, adding customers will also be able to link bank accounts, set or change UPI PINs.

Further, the 24×7 helpline ‘Digisaathi’ will assist the callers/users with all their queries on digital payments via website and chatbot.

Users can visit www.digisaathi.info or call on 14431 and 1800 891 3333 from their phones for their queries on digital payments and grievances.

An interesting fact mentioned by the RBI is that UPI 123Pay will also be available on feature phones as an app. Considering the nature of feature phones, we know that the app can’t be downloaded onto them, so we soon might see new feature phones released with the app functionality already present on them.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra specs and renders revealed: New quad-camera setup, 5000mAh battery & more

Earlier today, we learned that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is possibly delayed till the second half of 2022 due to Xiaomi looking to launch the device with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC rather than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.

But that doesn’t mean that the leaks will stop as tipster @Shadow_leaks has revealed some specs and concept renders of the upcoming flagship device.

The tipster states that the smartphone will come with a  6.73-inch 2K E5 AMOLED Display which uses LTPO 2.0 technology. The screen will support 10bit color and is said to have a 120Hz refresh rate.

The tipster states that the smartphone will come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, but considering recent reports, this may or may not be accurate. Moving to optics, the tipster reveals that the smartphone will feature two 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensors working as the primary and ultrawide cameras. The device is also said to feature a 16-megapixel portrait lens and a 48-megapixel IMX586 telephoto camera.

The camera setup described by the tipster is in stark contrast from the previous leaks which have described that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will have a similar triple camera setup to the Xiaomi 11 Ultra consisting of a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 48-megapixel ultrawide, and another 40-megapixel sensor for the periscope telephoto camera.

Other than that, the leakster reveals that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will come with a 500mAh battery and 120W fast charging support. It will likely boot Android 12 based MIUI out of the box and will feature stereo speakers along with an IP68 water and dust resistant certification.

Considering that the tipster doesn’t have a standing record for reliable leaks, we suggest readers take these specifications with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more info on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra.

OPPO Find X5 vs Find X5 Pro vs Find X5 Lite: Specs Comparison

The OPPO Find X5 launched in the global market in three different variants: OPPO Find X5, Find X5 Pro and Find X5 Lite. This year, OPPO decided to launch the vanilla version instead of the Neo variant in order to provide two advanced flagships, but the midrange variant is not missing from the trio. This comparison between their specifications will explain to you the difference between each device from the new flagship series. Note that this comparison does not include the Dimensity 9000 version of the Find X5 Pro which was only launched in China, but the only difference between this device and the Snapdragon version (if we exclude the processor) is the absence of the MariSilicon X NPU.

Design

Naturally, the most attractive design belongs to the OPPO Find X5 Pro. This is one of the few flagships made of ceramic and it is extremely elegant. In China, it even comes in an additional blue color option made of leather. Right after, we got the OPPO Find X5 with a glass back and an aluminum frame, but you should not underestimate the Lite variant because it is the most compact, thinnest, and most lightweight device of the trio.

Display

The OPPO Find X5 Pro comes with the most advanced display: an AMOLED panel with one billion colors, the LTPO technology, a Quad HD+ resolution, and an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. The vanilla version still comes with a billion-color display, but it has a lower Full HD+ resolution and it lacks the LTPO technology. With the OPPO Find X5 Lite, you get an inferior AMOLED panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate like the one found on the Reno6.

Specs & Software

The most powerful chipset is the one found on the OPPO Find X5 Pro: the octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform running at a max frequency of 3 GHz. Then we got the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform of the original X5: still a flagship chipset, but with lower performance. The Find X5 Lite comes with the midrange Dimensity 900, not so impressive if compared to the other siblings.

Camera

The OPPO Find X5 and the Pro variant come with the same camera department including a pair of 50 MP sensors with OIS and a 13 MP telephoto lens with optical zoom. But the Pro variant adds the important MariSilicon X: the first proprietary chip released by OPPO. This chip is very important because it improves the photo and video quality, even in low light conditions. The Find X5 Lite has a midrange camera setup including a 64 MP main sensor.

Battery

Last but not least, the OPPO Find X5 Pro comes with a bigger 5000 mAh battery. The vanilla Find X5 supports 80W fast charging and 50W wireless charging just like the Pro, but with a smaller 4800 mAh battery. The Find X5 Lite lacks wireless charging and comes with an even smaller 4500 mAh battery.

Price

The OPPO Find X5 Pro carries a price tag of €1300/$1421, the vanilla version costs €999/$1093, and the Lite is priced at €499/$546. These are the prices for the European market, but they obviously vary depending on the region.

Apple ‘Mac Studio’ design & new external display showcased in last minute leak

A last-minute leak is pointing in the direction that Cupertino-based company, Apple could release a raft of products today March 8, 2022. The products lined up for today’s launch include an Apple Mac Studio and a Studio Display. These new details for products lined up for Apple’s Peek Performance Event unveiling add further hype to the event.Apple Mac Studio

The Apple iPhone SE 3, the new iPad Air 5, and a Mac Mini are among the devices lined up for the unveiling. There is no way of verifying the current leak, but we could expect a few surprises from Apple during the event. The new leak indicates that we might see a bigger Mac Mini, which is called the Mac Studio, a new and cheaper Studio Display.

The specific leak relates to a YouTube video by Luke Mani, who indicated that Apple is planning to release a new Mac Studio, which bears a striking semblance with the Mac Mini although it is bigger and has greater functionality than the Mac Mini. Performance-wise, the Mac Studio is also faster and cools more efficiently than the Mac Mini.

The new Apple Mac Studio is expected to be cheaper than the Mac Pro. The new Apple Studio Display seems to be a cheaper 27-inch display, with the MiniLED technology omitted. There are several other omissions that imply that the new Apple Studio Display will be far cheaper than the Pro Display XDR.

The leaks also relate to a green Apple iPhone 13 and a purple iPad Air 5. With a few hours to the launch, we keep our fingers crossed on the surprises Apple has formulated for the event.

Analyst reveals a dual punch-hole on the iPhone 14 Pro duo, Notch on the 14

While Apple is getting ready to kick off its event today, leaks about the September 2022 due iPhone 14 series are filling in the gaps. Last time we learned that this year, the notch will be replaced with the punch-hole setup. And Now, Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants has revealed that the notch is indeed getting replaced by the punch-hole but not for all the models.

iPhone 14 Pro

We now have a look at the actual timeline as to when we’ll see the punch-hole panel on the iPhones. Young reveals that the iPhone 14 series will get both a notch display as well as a dual punch-hole. The notch will be for the iPhone 14, while the 14 Pro models will get a dual punch-hole (mix of a pill-shaped hole and a punch-hole).

The iPhone 15 series, however, which will be in 2023, will get the Pill-shaped hole + a punch-hole in entirety. Also, the punch-hole and Pill will become smaller for the 15. Notably, the two holes on the iPhone 14 Pro and the upcoming 15 series models are said to be for the Face ID integration and obviously for the cameras.

iPhone 14 Pro

This pill-shaped hole will be an attempt to make the face ID module go under the display while showcasing the actual screen. This could be achieved with more transparent materials for the display or by using backside laser drilling, different patterns for the cathodes in the OLED.

Interestingly, Young reveals that the latter method is already taken into consideration and it could be mass-produced. However, don’t expect the under-display Face ID anytime sooner, it will probably take a while for Apple to implement it. So, not on 14 Pro, and having it on the iPhone 15 series is a question.

In addition to the Under-display Face ID, a previous report from Mark Gurman revealed that Apple was likely to bring under-display fingerprint readers and it even trailed the technology, but the company wasn’t happy with the final design. And so, Apple completely canceled the design.

In a few hours, Apple will kick-off their Peek Performance launch event where the brand is expected to launch new iPads including the iPad Air, new Mac devices as well as the show stopper, the new iPhone SE 2022 model.

Apple iPhone SE (2020)
Apple iPhone SE (2020)

Now, just moments before the supposed launch, new leaks have surfaced of the iPhone SE that detail some exciting features which will come with the new affordable iPhone. According to tipster lanzuk, Taiwanese supply chain sources have informed that the iPhone SE 3 will indeed come with Apple’s in-house A15 Bionic chipset. These are the same chips that power the current iPhone 13 lineup. The tipster also added that the smartphone will come with an improved camera system over its predecessor which has previously been stated by trusted sources like Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The tipster also says that the iPhone SE 2022 will get a bigger battery compared to the 1,821mAh battery on the iPhone SE 2020, and in combination with the more power-efficient A15 chip, the phone is sure to get a solid battery performance boost. On the topic of battery, the leaker says that the phone will come with MagSafe charging support, which is in contrast to the majority of previous leaks we have received so far.

For increased durability, the smartphone will come with the ceramic shield glass that was introduced with iPhone 12. The material is a combination of glass and ceramic and is meant to protect the phone in case it’s dropped accidentally.

And lastly, the tipster informs that the entry-level Apple smartphone will be begging a bump in its RAM capacity landing it at 4GB from the 3GB featured on the last-gen SE model.

The base price of the smartphone is expected to be the same as last gen and it will likely debut with a $399 price tag, contrary to previous reports which have stated that the smartphone will be priced around $300.

However, the credibility of these leaks are up for debate so we suggest that you take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for our coverage of the Apple Peek Performance launch event.

South Korea approves rules against Google & Apple app stores

South Korea has approved certain rules that will allow the government to ban app stores by Apple and Google from forcing software developers to use their payments systems.

Apple

For those unaware, the Cupertino and Search Engine giant have been facing scrutiny across the globe over their app stores. At the moment, both brands hold a duopoly in the market with most smartphone users using either of the two stores for apps. However, the two companies also charge take a share from any transaction made within apps from developers and did not allow for third party payment methods. Thus, telecom regulators in nations like South Korea have been targeting the Google Play Store and iOS App Store.

South Korea has recently passed a new law, an amendment to the Telecommunication Business Act, which will help remove the dominance held by Apple and Google. Both firms typically charge 30 percent on developers, but the new rules that are called enforcement ordinance will help developers bypass this charge. The new rule will be put into effect starting from March 15 and bars “the act of forcing a specific payment method to a provider of mobile content.”

Apple

Han Sang-hyuk, chairman of Korea Communications Commission (KCC) added that “In order to prevent indirect regulatory avoidance, prohibited acts’ types and standards have been established as tightly knit as possible within the scope delegated by the law.” So now, any infractions may reach as high as 2 percent of an average annual revenue from related business practices, as per the new rules.

Galaxy F23 5G is an unusual smartphone from Samsung

Earlier today, Samsung launched its first Galaxy F series device of 2022 – Galaxy F23 5G. The new handset for the Indian market packs some interesting features. Above all, it is priced competitively. This combination makes it an unusual budget smartphone from the South Korean tech giant.

Samsung Galaxy F23 5G

Compelling Features

The Galaxy F23 5G is unlike other budget smartphones from Samsung. The device arrives with an attractive set of specifications.

First and foremost, it flaunts a 6.6-inch FHD+ display with up to a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. However, the screen is LCD and has a dewdrop notch.

There are multiple handsets in this segment with high refresh rate OLED panels. But they don’t house a capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC with a 5G modem like the Galaxy F23 5G. The cherry on top is that the phone features 12 5G bands, which markets it future-proof.

That’s not all, the device boots Android 12-based One UI 4.1. It not only comes with Knox security but Samsung also promises two years of OS updates and up to four years of security updates.

Samsung Galaxy F23 5G

If that’s not enough, the smartphone even has support for full-fledged Samsung Pay via NFC. At the moment, it is the most affordable Samsung handset in India with this feature. Though UPI is the most-preferred payment platform in the country, one can find contactless gateways in most places.

Further, the phone arrives with a dedicated MicroSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also packs a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a large 5,000mAh battery with support for up to 25W fast charging. Unfortunately, it does not ship with a charger.

Apart from the display, the only other lackluster on-paper specs of the Galaxy F23 5G belong to its cameras. The phone comes with a  50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN1 primary sensor, an 8MP 123° ultra-wide unit, a 2MP macro snapper, and an 8MP front-facing shooter.

Stellar Price

The aforementioned specifications mean nothing if the Galaxy F23 5G is not priced well. Thankfully, it’s not the case. The device costs ₹17,499 and ₹18,499 for 4GB + 128GB and 6GB + 128GB memory configurations respectively.

Samsung Galaxy F23 5G

These price tags definitely don’t sound that intriguing. What’s more temping is the ₹1,500 discount offered by Samsung for a limited time as ‘introductory price’. On top of this, customers can avail additional ₹1,000 cashback on ICICI Bank cards. The two offers lower the price of the handset to ₹14,999 and ₹15,999.

Since Samsung is known for selling its online-specific hands at discounted price tags for a longer period of time along with bank offers, most people won’t need to pay the full price. Also, the firm usually brings back these offers even if they go away for a while.

Competitors

The better alternatives of Galaxy F23 5G are limited to 4G connectivity. The first model is the year-old Redmi Note 10 Pro, which is slightly costlier. The runner-up is the new Redmi Note 11S, which costs almost the same as the Samsung phone.

Talking about 5G competitors, the vivo T1 5G goes head to head with the Galaxy F23 5G. The other one will be the costlier realme 9 Pro 5G. The upcoming realme 9 5G and realme 9 5G SE also look like worthy contenders.

Conclusion

Though there are multiple other options in this price category, the Galaxy F23 5G is definitely worth a look at, especially if you are looking for a 5G smartphone. Samsung seems to have cracked the formula for affordable 5G phones.

Samsung Galaxy F23 5G

The only major drawback we could think of is the lack of an AMOLED display, which has become common now. The device tries to right this with unique features like Samsung Pay, 12 5G bands, and guaranteed software updates.
