The Redmi Note 11 5G will be available in different configurations, however, the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage will have a price tag of about VND 5 million (~$220).

The Redmi Note 11 Pro will have a 120Hz OLED display, a 16MP selfie camera, and a 108MP main rear camera. The processor will be the Dimensity 920 processor, and a 5000mAh battery capacity. The phone will also have support for 67W fast charging, unlike the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G that will be sold in China which will have 120W fast charging. Unfortunately, the price tag for the Redmi Note 11 Pro wasn’t revealed.

There is no mention of when the phone will be unveiled in Vietnam but we don’t expect a global launch until next month at the earliest.

realme could now be stepping into the air conditioner market, if this tip holds true

realme could be foraying into the air conditioner market now after expanding into audio, smart TV, IoT, laptops, vacuum cleaners, and much more.

Tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore (via 91mobiles) spotted a new ‘air conditioner control’ string in the company website’s codebase under the IoT category, proving that realme could indeed be working on an air conditioner as we speak.

realme air conditioner website

Unfortunately, the listing doesn’t reveal any hardware specifications of the product, or anything else for that matter. But we can still speculate that it may come with various smart home features such as supporting controls via a phone.

There is no indication as to when the said air conditioner will be hitting the market either. Although we are positive that it will be quite soon considering realme is seemingly gearing up to add details about it on its website.

realme is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer and is a subsidiary of BBK Electronics. It was founded by Sky Li back in 2018. While the company primarily gained its success from smartphones, it now offers other products such as laptops and earphones. It has even made its entry into the smart home market.

Google Tensor gets crushed by Apple A15 in machine learning despite being a ML-centric chip

Google Tensor is undoubtedly the most talked-about bit of the new Pixel 6 series. The chip has been marketed as going big on machine learning and supplying all the juice needed for stuff like Google’s improved computational photography and transcription abilities.

Pixel fans have thus been finding solace in thinking that where the Tensor stands weak in terms of performance, it makes up for it by its ML prowess. For the uninitiated, the Pixel 6 is outperformed by the latest Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 phones, and of course, Apple’s A15 and even A14 Bionic chips.

However, in a new test performed by the folks at Notebookcheck, it was found that the Apple A15 Bionic chip even crushes the Google Tensor in the latter’s greatest strength – machine learning. The test was done on the new Geekbench ML app that has been developed specifically to measure machine learning performance.

The Google Tensor managed to score just 307 in the Geekbench ML TensorFlow Lite CPU test, which is under a third of the Apple A15’s impressive score of 939. The 307 figure isn’t terrible by any means but shows that it’s no match for Apple even after machine learning being the Tensor’s particular strength.

The test doesn’t end there though. The A15 scores 2727 in the neural accelerator test while the Tensor scores 1720. The Tensor closes the gap a tiny bit in the GPU test though scoring 1428 while the A15 responds with a higher score of 2727.

google tensor featured

All in all, the aggregate score of the A15 stands at 5,934 while Tensor gets 3,455. This means that the A15 is around 71% faster than the Google Tensor in machine learning tasks, at least in benchmark tests. Of course, the real-world performance can turn out to be a different story, but with the gap between the two chips this big, we doubt that will be the case.

We can cut the Tensor some slack here though considering that it’s actually Google’s very first self-developed chip. And for a first, it is rather impressive. Moreover, the chip actually managed to beat the Snapdragon 888, Exynos 2100, and Kirin 9000 in GPU benchmark tests as per a report.

Apple, on the other hand, has been shipping its custom-built chips in the iPhones for years now giving it a huge headstart.

Nokia promises to plant 50 trees for every purchase of XR20

Earlier this year, Nokia had launched the XR20, which was a new rugged smartphone that supports 5G networking. Now, the company has launched a new initiative that will have it plant 50 trees for every XR20 being purchased.

Nokia

The environmentally friendly move from the HMD Global owned brand isn’t exactly new as the company has taken efforts in the past as well in regards to sustainable products. An example being the brand’s X10 that was shipped with 100 percent recyclable packaging and offered up to 3 years of official Android OS and security patch updates. And now, the Finnish smartphone maker is partnering up with Ecologi for its latest “Let’s Plant Together.”

The company made the announced recently and added that the partnership will allow Nokia to plant a certain number of trees, which will be located either in Mozambique or Madagascar. The number of trees being planted will be based on the number of units of devices sold within the G and X series of smartphones. Notably, the initiative also includes the brand’s new T20 tablets as well.

Nokia XR20 featured main

So for those interested and wish to contribute to the eco-friendly drive simply have to register the IMEI number of an eligible smartphone to get new trees planted. According to Nokia’s official announcement, it will plant 10 trees for every G50 sold, while it will plant 20 trees for every new X10, X20, or even the T20 tablet sold. Meanwhile, sale of every XR20 will have 50 trees being planted. The initiative is available for European customers and will run till the company plants 35,000 trees.

Xiaomi sells over 7 million units of smart TVs in India

Xiaomi has been selling smart TVs in India since the first half of 2018. Up until 2020, the company only had Mi-branded televisions in the country. This year, the Chinese tech giant even introduced Redmi-branded models. A little over three and a half years later, the firm has hit a new milestone in sales.

Xiaomi 7 Million Smart TV Sales

Today, Xiaomi announced that it has sold over 7 million units of Mi and Redmi-branded smart TVs in India since their introduction. The sales figure from Xiaomi Data Center accounts from March 2018 to September 2021.

In a press release shared with us, Eshwar Nilakantan, Category Lead – Smart TVs, Xiaomi India, says that the company played a key role in the growth of the smart TV market in India. The segment doubled in 2021 when compared to 2018.

He also states that during the festive season sale earlier this month, the sales of the firm’s 4K TV models increased by a whopping 53 times. The company managed to sell over 100K units of televisions in less than 3 days during this period.

Tizen OS will not be limited to Samsung Smart TVs anymore

Samsung Electronics yesterday held the Samsung Developer Conference 2021 and lifted the curtains on a lot of new stuff related to its software and services. Improvements to Bixby, Samsung Health, Samsung Knox, and SmartThings were announced but perhaps the most significant bit was the opening up of Tizen OS to other TV brands.

TV manufacturers will now be able to bring Tizen OS to their smart TVs by using Samsung’s Tizen TV Platform Licensing service at a minimal cost. They will also be gaining access to the Tizen branding and get a chance to promote their products at major external events.

samsung tizen sdc 2021

TV manufacturers will also be benefitting from the already established platform Tizen is, complete with access to a multitude of video and audio streaming services including Apple Music, Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, YouTube, YouTube Kids, and YouTube TV.

Samsung isn’t the first to open up a proprietary platform for other brands though. LG and Roku have already been allowing other TV companies to use their smart TV platform. Amazon’s Fire TV and Google’s Android TV operating systems are also being used by multiple TV brands.

Regardless, it’s great to see Samsung following in their footsteps, although it remains to be seen if other companies will actually be interested in the Tizen platform. But Tizen is actually one of the most feature-rich platforms out there, so companies will surely be missing out if they give it a miss, especially if they do not have their own OS.
