Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro flagship phones not launching in India, confirms the company

Just a couple of days ago, Google officially launched its latest flagship smartphones — Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Both the phones are now up for pre-orders in eight countries around the world and will start shipping from 28th October.

However, as expected, India is missing from the list of countries where the Pixel 6 series smartphones will be available.  It has now been confirmed that the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro won’t get launched in India in the foreseeable future.

Google is attributing the non-availability of its flagship phones from the Indian market to a “variety of factors” including global supply chain issues.

Pixel 6 series display

In a statement, Google’s spokesperson said: “Due to a variety of factors including global demand-supply issues, we are not able to make our products available in all markets. We remain committed to our current Pixel phones and look forward to bringing future Pixel devices to more countries in the future.”

Another factor that Google may have considered when deciding not to launch flagships in India is the pricing. Almost 90 percent of the Indian smartphone market is for devices priced under $300 — a price range that is dominated by the Chinese makers and Google cannot compete with.

This isn’t the first time that the Pixel lineup isn’t launching in one of the world’s largest smartphone markets. The company has not launched the flagship Pixel smartphone in India for the past couple of years but the watered-down variant with A-suffix does get launched in the Indian market.

Coming to the latest flagships, the Pixel 6 features a 6.1-inch Full HD+ AMOLED 90Hz display while the Pro model comes with a 6.7-inch 120Hz display. They have a 50-megapixel primary sensor, coupled with a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor. The Pro variant gets an additional 48-megapixel telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom support.

Google Pixel 6 series featured

This time, the tech giant has ditched Qualcomm and has used its own custom-made Tensor chipset that is aimed to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities on the device.

On the front side, the Pixel 6 feature an 8-megapixel snapper while the 6 Pro model comes equipped with an 11.1-megapixel sensor. Both the smartphones come running the latest Android 12 operating system out-of-the-box. The Pixel 6 is powered by a 4,614mAh battery while the Pixel 6 Pro is powered by a 5,000mAh battery.

The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are now available for pre-order in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, and Taiwan. As noted, they will be available for purchase from 28th October.

PayPal reportedly in advanced talks to acquire Pinterest for $45 billion

PayPal, one of the leading and well-known online payments platforms, is in advanced talks to acquire digital pinboard platform Pinterest for $45 billion. The development was first reported by Bloomberg, citing people aware of the matter but didn’t want to be identified.

If the deal goes through, then it will mark the biggest acquisition of a social media company so far. Currently, Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn for $26.2 billion in the year 2016 is the biggest transaction in this category.

Paypal

A source aware of the development has said that PayPal is offering $70 per share for the acquisition of Pinterest, mostly in stock. If everything goes as expected for the online payments provider, then the deal could be announced early next month when PayPal reports its quarterly earnings.

However, do note that the deal isn’t certain yet and the terms associated with it could get changed. As the news surfaced online, the shares of PayPal fell while Pinterest saw a surge in its shares.

With the acquisition of Pinterest, PayPal would be able to capture more of the e-commerce growth as online shoppers are following influencers on platforms. It will also help the company diversify its income with advertising revenue.

Pinterest was valued at about $13 billion when it went public in 2019 and since then, the company saw a huge spike in users looking for crafts and DIY project ideas because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has warned about slowing user growth, especially in the US, as lockdowns eased.

The price offered by PayPal for the acquisition of Pinterest, founded in 2010, is 62 times the social media company’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization over the last 12 months.

PayPal has turned towards acquisition to boost its e-commerce offerings. In 2019, the company purchased Honey Science for $4 billion, and earlier this year, it acquired Japan-based Buy-Now-Pay-Later (BNPL) firm Paidy for $2.7 billion. It has also acquired return-service provider Happy Returns in May this year.

In related news, Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp announced last week that he would step down as the company’s chief creative officer to join LoveFrom, a firm led by Jony Ive, known for designing many Apple products.

Analyst says Apple could launch a 27-inch iMac with 120Hz mini-LED display by Q1 2022

A very reliable display analyst has projected that Apple could unveil its 27-inch iMac as early as the first quarter of 2022. The new Apple iMac, according to display analyst Ross Young, will feature ProMotion mini-LED display, similar to what we have in the freshly-released MacBook Pros laptops.New Apple 27-inch iMac

Apple has had an impressive debut for the MacBook Pro, which offers a 14-inch and 16-inch display. The company is carrying out a silent transition from Intel to ARM CPUs, and the trend implies that the new CPUs will also be extended to the 27-inch iMac Pro, the Mac mini, and the Mac Pro laptops. The 27-inch iMac, as per the tweet by Ross Young, will also come with a 120Hz display refresh rate, and it could well be Apple’s all-in-one offering in the high-end segment as per screen sizes.

There are still some loose details about the new iMac which seems to be a revamped version of the discontinued iMac Pro. It will also offer some improvements from the current models or at least make it at par with key aspects of current models. The 27-inch iMac may be powered by the M1 Max chipset, with Apple making progress in the development of improved versions of these models.

It is unclear how authentic the projection by the display analyst on the iMac. However, he has had a decent record of correct predictions over time. Apple has continued to grapple with the unauthorized release of its trade secrets by its employees or third parties. It had put some stringent measures to track and deter tipsters from dealing with such secrets, but this has not stopped the issue. It, therefore, remains to be seen whether the projection by Ross Young is a big hit or miss by Q1 2022.

iPhone 13 vs Google Pixel 6: Specs Comparison

At the Pixel Fall Launch held yesterday, Google officially announced the Google Pixel 6. This year we are talking about a flagship series instead of mid-rangers like the ones released in 2020. The Google Pixel 6 and the 6 Pro are the first phones with the first Google’s proprietary chipset and they bring a totally renewed design to the market. Is it enough for the Pixel 6 to compete with the iPhone 13? Given that Google always tried to battle the iPhones with its flagship devices, here is a comparison between the specifications of the vanilla iPhone 13 and the vanilla Google Pixel 6.

Design

The Google Pixel 6 comes with a brand new design which is definitely one of the most original. Unlike other manufacturers, Google decided not to follow the trend and launched a device with a totally different camera module from the iPhones. You may like its horizontally-placed camera module or not, but Google deserves to be praised for its choice. The phone also comes with a great build quality: it has the Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the front glass, the Gorilla Glass 6 protection for the rear glass, and the IP68 certification guaranteeing water and dust resistance. But the iPhone 13 has an even better build quality with its Ceramic Shield and IP68 certification allowing it to withstand water up to 6 meters deep. Last but not least, the iPhone 13 is more compact, even though the Pixel 6 is all but a big phone.

Display

If you are looking for the best image quality, then you should opt for the iPhone 13. Its Super Retina XDR OLED panel is able to show very realistic color and excellent contrast. It also comes with the HDR10 certification and Dolby Vision support. The iPhone 13 might not be for everyone because it has a small 6.1-inch display, but if you do not mind about the dimensions, then its display is the best for your needs. However, the Google Pixel 6 still offers three important advantages in terms of display. The first is the higher refresh rate with 90 Hz, the second is the larger size with a diagonal of 6.4 inches and the third is the presence of an in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

As mentioned above, the Google Pixel 6 is the first phone with the first Google’s proprietary SoC: the Google Tensor. The chip is built at 5 nm and it is the first with two Cortex-X1 CPUs on board. The SoC is paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The iPhone 13 has an Apple A15 Bionic chipset paired with 4 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of native storage. No matter which is the hardware specifications: thanks to the iOS operating system, the iPhone 13 provides higher performance and more stability. But you should not underestimate the features of Android 12 and especially the exclusive ones for the Pixel 6.

Camera

On the paper, it looks like the Google Pixel 6 has a more interesting camera setup: it comes with a 50 MP main sensor with OIS and a 12 MP ultrawide camera. But Apple’s ability to use the software in order to get better camera performance, alongside the advanced specifications of the dual 12 MP camera of the iPhone 13, should allow it to shoot better photos and record better videos. But Google Pixel 6 just went official: it might surprise you in the future.

Battery

The Google Pixel 6 has a way bigger battery with a capacity of 4614 mAh, and Google is very nice at optimizing its phones in order to achieve the highest possible battery life. We still do not know whether or not the iPhone 13 will be able to compete with the Pixel 6 in terms of battery life, but for now, we believe that it probably will.

Price

The starting price of the Google Pixel 6 is $599/€649, while the iPhone 13 starts from $699/€899. The Pixel 6 brings a lot of improvements to the shelves, but the iPhone 13 looks like a more valid resource with its superior cameras, display, and more. However, the Pixel 6 may surprise us in the future with its new features and optimization, so do not underestimate it.

Android Apps arrive on Windows 11 for Windows Insiders

One of the features Windows 11 brings is Android app support but while the stable version of the new Windows has begun rolling out, it doesn’t bring the feature to users yet. Starting today, Windows Insiders can get to experience the new feature.

Amazon Appstore Preview on Windows 11

Microsoft announced that a preview of the Android apps experience is now available to users on its Windows Insiders Program. The official announcement by the tech giant says that the feature can be tested by Beta Channel users in the United States on eligible devices powered by Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm platforms.

If you are a beta channel user, you will be able to try out Android apps by going to the new Microsoft Store. You should see the Amazon Appstore preview were you will be able to download Android apps and games on to your Windows computer.

Microsoft says users will be able to run apps side-by-side, pin them to the Start menu or Taskbar and interact with them using a mouse, stylus, or touch input. You will also be able to switch between Android apps and Windows apps/programs using Alt + Tab and Task view.

Notifications from Android apps will also be visible in the Action Center and you can share your clipboard between a Windows app and an Android app. Microsoft also says that many of its Windows accessibility settings apply to Android apps but it is working with Amazon to improve them.

At the moment, there are 50 apps available for testing including popular games such as Lords Mobile, June’s Journey, and Coin Master while kids can learn and play with Khan Academy Kids and Lego Duplo World. The Kindle and Comics apps are also available.

Windows is able to run Android apps thanks to a component called Windows Subsystem for Android which powers the Amazon Appstore. The subsystem includes the Linux kernel and Android OS based on AOSP version 11.

Galaxy Watch4 update brings Fall Detection, Gesture Control, and more

Samsung is rolling out a new update to the Galaxy Watch4 series, its latest line of smartwatches announced in August. The new update brings new customization features, new ways to operate your watch, and Fall Detection.

Galaxy Watch4 new watch faces

New Watch Faces

The Galaxy Watch4 series is getting four new watch faces, all of which have their own special features and use cases. Info Brick allows you to monitor your health stats right from your homescreen and owners will be able to customize what stats are displayed. Weather Center is a watch face that does what the name says – display weather info while Basic Dashboard displays info such as date, steps, battery level, time from other zones, and the temperature while Live Wallpaper brings the live wallpapers of the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 to your wrist.

The update will also allow owners to choose a gif for the My Photo+ watch face and add up to four complications to the Animals watch face. Steps Challenge Watch Face also adds new animations such as an animated bear that will stretch before you begin the challenge, celebrate when you win, and sob when you lose.

Gesture Control

The Galaxy Watch4 can be controlled with gestures such as rotating your wrist twice to reject a call or dismiss an alarm. Samsung has added a new one that allows for a double knock gesture to launch a pre-set app, open the list of workouts, turn on a light, or create a reminder.

Fall Detection

The new update also brings Fall Detection to the Galaxy Watch4 but unlike when it made its debut last year on the Galaxy Watch3, Fall Detection will not only work when you fall during an exercise but can also be adjusted to detect a fall even if the wearer is standing still. When a fall is detected, it will send an SOS notification to up to four pre-selected contacts.

Samsung is also offering a free 60-day subscription to Strava for Galaxy Watch owners including older models.
