OnePlus flagships took a sharp turn away from their original vision with the OnePlus 15. Gone is the flagship killer that focused on offering a premium experience; OnePlus is now a brand that focuses on offering top tier performance at an approachable price tag. The OnePlus 15 debuted with a bunch of downgrades over its predecessor, despite being faster. And now, a new rumor suggests that this is just the first step in OnePlus’ future goals.

OnePlus Working on a Smartphone with an Ultra-Fast 240Hz Display

To recall, the OnePlus 15 was announced with the smoothest display of any OnePlus phone yet. It features a 165Hz refresh rate, but it sacrifices resolution to achieve this. While the OnePlus 13 came with a 2K resolution, its successor had a lower 1.5K panel. The display getting a downgrade wasn’t just to save on cost, but rather, technical limitations. So with the main focus of making its premium devices feel smoother and faster, it’s no surprise that the next step is something even greater.

According to a tweet from the OnePlus Club, the Chinese brand is planning on making its smartphones go all in on the performance focused side. Reportedly, OnePlus will eventually unveil a device with a 240Hz dynamic refresh rate. This is twice the current standard for most devices, even premium models. Although, this isn’t a first for the industry. OnePlus is apparently looking to strike a balance between resolution and refresh rate, but there are still no specifics for this future model.

240Hz refresh rate seems like overkill for a smartphone, considering how few apps take advantage of the 120Hz or 144Hz screens. OnePlus Club states that this model will arrive sometime in the coming years, so we can expect phones to get powerful enough to utilize the super smooth display in the future. A high refresh rate would also increase battery drain, so it remains to be seen how the company balances this.

Earlier today, Hisense shook the TV market by introducing their latest 65E8K and 75E8K models, offering viewers the bells and whistles of their premium range without the premium price tag. Priced at 9,999 yuan and 7,999 yuan respectively, these models are a follow-up to Hisense’s E8K series released back in March.

While the previous E8K series catered to an upscale audience with 85-inch and 100-inch options, the new 65- and 75-inch models aim to make cutting-edge TV tech more budget-friendly. These sets boast a 1056-zone Mini LED backlight design, allowing for a robust peak brightness of 1800 nits. Gamers and cinephiles alike can relish in the native 4K resolution at a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, with the potential to crank it up to 240Hz. The TVs also support VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and a color gamut covering 98% of the DCI-P3 range, ensuring vibrant visuals from your living room couch.

But it’s not just about the visuals; sound quality gets a significant upgrade, too. The E8K series features a 2.1.2-channel sound system with an impressive 77W high power output, enhancing your binge-watching and gaming sessions.

Under the hood, the TVs are powered by MediaTek‘s MT9653 quad-core A73 processor and come with 4GB of memory and 64GB of flash storage, ensuring smooth performance.

LG’s New 49-inch HDR Monitor has a 240Hz Refresh Rate

HDR, or High Dynamic Range, monitors are display screens that offer a wider range of colours and brightness levels than traditional monitors. They are designed to display images with more detail, depth, and realism, making them ideal for gaming, video editing, and other multimedia applications. HDR monitors can produce brighter whites, deeper blacks, and more vibrant colours, resulting in a more immersive viewing experience. They also have a higher contrast ratio and can display a wider colour gamut, which means they can reproduce more colours than traditional monitors. Combine that with a high refresh rate, and these monitors can provide the pinnacle of gaming experience. LG just shot their chance at that experience, as they unveiled their 49-inch HDR monitor with a 240-Hz refresh rate.

The LG 49GR85DC-B monitor boasts an impressive list of specs that are sure to grab the attention of ultrawide gaming enthusiasts. With its 49-inch VA panel, 32:9 aspect ratio, 5,120 by 1,440 resolution, and 98.5 per cent DCI-P3 coverage, this monitor is designed to deliver a stunning visual experience. Plus, its 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms pixel response time, and AMD FreeSync Premium technology make it ideal for fast-paced gameplay. LG also claims that the monitor is DisplayHDR 1000 certified, which means it’s capable of reaching a peak brightness of 1000 nits and features some form of local dimming.

It is worth noting that the price tag of $1,300 may be a bit steep for some, and VA panels don’t always perform as well as advertised. Additionally, few games currently support the 32:9 aspect ratio. Despite these drawbacks, the LG 49GR85DC-B is available for pre-order on the company’s website, and early adopters will receive a complimentary UltraGear RGB Gaming Mouse Pad valued at $200.
