Huawei is apparently working on a new smartphone, as per a known leakster. The handset in question will reportedly feature support for 90W fast charging as well, which would be the highest fast charging rating offered by a smartphone from the Chinese tech giant.

The report arrives from tipster @数码闲聊站 earlier today (12th July 2021) who shared the news on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website. As of right now, the highest fast charging rate on a smartphone from the brand is 66W, which is in the Mate 40 Pro. The upcoming Huawei P50 series might offer a similar or even higher fast charging support, although, its exact battery specifications are currently unknown.

At the moment, the highest fast charging available in a smartphone that is in mass production is 120W, which is found in the Black Shark 4 Pro and iQOO 7. Unfortunately, this is still unconfirmed news, so take this report with a pinch of salt. Although, this is also indicative that the company has not stopped its R&D work on smartphones, despite facing US sanctions that have essentially disrupted the supply chain and cut off its chip supply from TSMC. Back in April 2020, Lenovo teased its 90W fast charging smartphone, which is finally on the verge of launch. The Lenovo Legion gaming phone will launch in China on July 22, 2020, and will be the world’s first smartphone to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G processor.

As per a new promotional poster teased by Lenovo on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo, the Lenovo Legion gaming phone will feature a 5,000mAh battery, which is claimed to be fully charged in just 30 minutes owing to the 90W fast charging. The device will make use of a hybrid power flash charging architecture, which the company dubs Twin Turbo charging.

As seen in the poster, the device will have two USB Type-C charging ports, making it easier to charge the device during long gaming sessions, as one can make use of either the bottom port or the side-mounted port.

When the tech was officially teased by Lenovo in April, 90W of fast charging speed could have been the fastest commercially available fast charging technology, but things have changed over the past few months. OPPO has already unveiled its 125W fast charging technology. Realme has followed suit with 125W Ultra-Dart fast charging technology and iQOO has introduced its 120W fast charging technology. That being said, the above-mentioned brands are yet to launch a device that makes use of such fast charging. Lenovo, on the other hand, has a device that will be available in the market in no time. Though not as fast as the charging tech other brands have teased lately, the Lenovo Legion phone will still charge from 0% to 100% in 30 minutes while occupying a 5,000mAh cell.

Moving on to the rest of the specifications of the device, the Lenovo Legion gaming phone will reportedly feature a dual rear camera setup. The device is said to report Android 10, but the UI will allegedly be more inclined towards providing the user with more of a handheld console experience, so the majority of the UI elements on the Lenovo Legion phone are going to be in landscape mode, as per previous reports.

Since December last year, Lenovo had revealed it was working on a gaming smartphone that borrows its name from the popular Legion gaming laptop series. In recent weeks, several details of the gaming phone have appeared on the internet. Just yesterday, the company teased the presence of a mammoth 90W fast charge support which the gaming phone will provide.

Today, a new teaser as emerged which suggests that the 90W fast charge on the gaming smartphone will be able to deliver a full charge to a 4000mAh battery in just 15 minutes. The teaser was shared from Lenovo’s Legion official Weibo handle which means it is an authentic one.

No doubt, that’s some ferocious charging speed which definitely floors all that we have seen so far in terms of smartphone charging power. In addition, you won’t have to worry about the 90W fast charge support being on the top-end “Pro” model only. Instead, the company has hinted that it will be on all models. That itself props up the possibility of the gaming phone coming in more than one variant, possibly a higher Pro version with higher RAM or larger storage size.

In addition, the teaser may have indirectly revealed to us that the Legion gaming smartphone will cram a 4000mAh battery. That would be more than adequate with this charging prowess. We also expect the company to implement an efficient cooling system onboard the device so as to keep it cool while charging or gaming.

We already know that the Lenovo Legion gaming phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset. The renders of the device are also in the open. However, there is no word yet on the launch date.
