The latest flagship lineup from the Cupertino giant was just recently unveiled and showcase only a slight gain in performance over the previous generation.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-348325 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_004-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_004-1.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_004-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_004-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_004-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_004-1-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_004-1-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_004-1-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>Apple is known to not reveal certain specs regardings its devices, including battery capacity and RAM. Thus, we have to wait for synthetic benchmarks from known platforms like Geekbench to get additional information. And now, multiple listings for the same have surfaced online. When the company had first announced the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/a14-bionic/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> A14 Bionic</a> chipset, it had claimed that it offered a 40 percent boost in CPU performance and 30 percent boost in GPU performance over the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-a12/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">A12 chip</a>, which is already two years old.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/15/oneplus-8t-launches-in-china-with-cheaper-price-tag-of-%c2%a5-3399505-availability-and-offer-details-inside/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus 8T launches in China with cheaper price tag of ¥ 3399($505), availability and offer details inside</a></strong></h6>
<p>Apparently, the reason Apple might have done this is due to lackluster performance gains over the last generation of A13 chips. This seems all but true as the Geekbench listings show that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/15/apple-iphone-12-mini-pro-max-ram/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 12 arrives with 4GB of RAM</a>, similar to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-11/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 11</a>, and offers only a moderate bump of 20 percent in single core performance and just 8 percent in the multi core tests against the previous year&#8217;s A13 chip, as per a <a href="https://www.gsmarena.com/geekbench_results_for_iphone_12_series_surface_show_modest_performance_gains_-news-45816.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>GSMArena</em></a> report.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-348326 alignnone" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_001-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple" width="322" height="415" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_001-1.jpg 322w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_001-1-233x300.jpg 233w" sizes="(max-width: 322px) 100vw, 322px" /> <img loading="lazy" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-348327" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_002-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple" width="319" height="415" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_002-1.jpg 319w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/gsmarena_002-1-231x300.jpg 231w" sizes="(max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px" /></p>
<p>In single core tests, the iPhone 12 scored 1,588 points, while multi core results brought in 3,677 points. On the other hand, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-12-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 12 Pro</a> with 6GB of RAM scored around 1,598 points in single core and around 4,000 points in multi core tests. Hence, we can see that the new A14 chip arrives with improvements towards its energy efficiency, rather than performance gains, which is understandable considering the new lineup features 5G support as well.</p>

Now, it is being reported that the company&#8217;s facility for the production of 5nm chips has been fully booked by Apple.</p>
<p>According to the <a href="https://www.digitimes.com/news/a20200917PD210.html">latest report</a> coming from China, the Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company will be making chips for the iPhone 12, iPad Air, 5G iPad Pro, and the upcoming MacBook.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-99717 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/tsmc.jpg?x44794" alt="TSMC" width="2272" height="1704" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/tsmc.jpg 2272w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/tsmc-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/tsmc-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/tsmc-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/tsmc-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 2272px) 100vw, 2272px" /></p>
<p>It seems like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tsmc">TSMC</a> is giving preferential treatment to Apple given that almost one-fifth of the company&#8217;s total revenue comes from the Cupertino-based tech giant. The company reportedly started mass-production of 5nm chipset from March this year and will continue making chipsets for only for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a> this year.</p>
<p>As per the reports, Apple had ordered components for up to 80 million iPhone 12 units but the actual number manufactured this year may end up being 74 million at most. The remaining units would be deferred to next year.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000">EDITOR&#8217;S PICK:</span> </strong><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/17/singapore-will-reward-citizens-who-own-an-apple-watch-and-meet-activity-goals-with-up-to-280/"><strong>Singapore will reward citizens who own an Apple Watch and meet activity goals with up to $280</strong></a></p>
<p>This move from TSMC could be the reason behind Samsung having started mass-production of Qualcomm <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-875">Snapdragon 875</a> flagship chipset. If Qualcomm wants to stick to its usual schedule of launching new Snapdragon-series flagship SoC in December, then it has to start mass-production and Samsung is the only other manufacturer having technology for making chips on 5nm node.</p>
<p>Apart from SD875, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> is also reportedly working on the production of its own Exynos 992 SoC, which could power the company&#8217;s upcoming flagship smartphones. It is also reportedly <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/04/samsung-receives-chip-orders-google-cisco/">designing custom chipset for Google</a>.</p>
<p>Huawei is also expected to soon launch its Kirin 9000 SoC, which is based on a 5nm chipset. The company had reportedly ordered 15 million units to TSMC but <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/17/huawei-limited-stock-kirin-9000-chipset-mate-40-series/">only 8.8 million units are available</a> and now with the new sanctions, the Chinese giant won&#8217;t be able to procure more units of this chipset.</p>
