Apple’s decision to replace the iconic mute/silent switch in the iPhone 15 Pro series with an Action button has stirred discussions among users. While this alteration presents various advantages, its practicality has become a subject of debate. Recent reports circulating in the tech sphere suggest that Apple is gearing up to introduce a revamped version of the Action button in its forthcoming iPhone 16 series. Here are the details…

iPhone 16 Upgraded Action Button with Innovations and User-Friendly Features

The Action button, a feature embedded in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, serves as a versatile tool enabling users to execute specific tasks, such as triggering the camera or activating the flashlight. Positioned as a small mechanical switch situated on the device’s right side, it’s a notable departure from the conventional mute/silent switch.

Rumors speculate that the overhauled Action button in the iPhone 16 series will bear semblance to the functionality of the Home button seen in earlier iPhone models. This revised button may potentially sport a larger design and incorporate touch-sensitive capabilities. Leaks and insider information hint that this redesigned Action button won’t be an exclusive feature but will extend across the entire lineup of the iPhone 16 series.

Multiple sources claim to have spotted the button in various iPhone 16 prototypes, with internal documents referring to it as “Atlas.” Apple’s motive behind this change appears to revolve around enhancing user experience. By making the Action button more intuitive and adaptable, the tech giant aims to cater to the preferences of users. Moreover, this strategic move could also serve to appeal to former iPhone users who favor a fully touch-sensitive screen experience, potentially widening the company’s customer base.

However, murmurs from earlier reports suggest a probable price hike in the upcoming iPhone 16 series. This increase in cost could be an attempt by Apple to maintain a balance and prevent a significant price disparity compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 15 series.

Apple’s highly anticipated solid-state volume buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro have been a topic of much speculation in the tech world. However, it appears that the rumors of the cancellation of the project have been confirmed by Apple supplier, Cirrus Logic.

The company mentioned in a recent shareholder letter that a new product that was scheduled to be introduced this fall is no longer expected to come to market as planned. Although Cirrus Logic did not mention Apple or the solid-state buttons explicitly, it strongly hinted that it was the supplier of this technology in a previous shareholder letter.

iPhone 15 Pro to feature customizable Action button instead of solid-state volume buttons

The solid-state buttons were supposed to provide haptic feedback and replace the traditional clickable volume buttons. Ming-chi Kuo, a well-known Apple-related leaks and rumors source, reported that unresolved technical issues prevented the mass production of the solid-state buttons, leading to the project’s cancellation.

While the iPhone 15 Pro will not have solid-state volume buttons, it will debut the Action button, which will replace the ring/mute switch. This button will be fully customizable, similar to the one on the Apple Watch Ultra.

Apple may not have given up on the idea of solid-state volume buttons altogether, as analyst Jeff Pu believes that the company will push the introduction of this technology to the iPhone 16 Pro, which is expected to launch next year.

Cirrus Logic’s announcement is significant because Apple is its largest customer, accounting for 78% of its revenue in the 2022 fiscal year. The cancellation of the solid-state buttons project may have an impact on Cirrus Logic’s revenue for the next fiscal year.

Overall, the cancellation of the solid-state buttons project is a setback for Apple, as it was one of the most highly anticipated features of the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the introduction of the customizable Action button may still provide a unique user experience for Apple’s customers. The tech world will be eagerly watching to see if Apple manages to overcome the technical challenges of the solid-state buttons in time for the release of the iPhone 16 Pro.
