OnePlus 12 (Review) is easily the best affordable flagship of 2024. This model often goes on attractive discounts, offering buyers a premium package without breaking the bank. This model features a premium design, cutting edge hardware, and capable cameras. While it launched for a typical flagship price point, sales and other deals made it a lot more affordable.

It comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, a tall 6.82-inch 2K+ LTPO AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, a massive 5,400mAh battery, 100W wired fast charging, and 50W wireless fast charging. Vivo X100 is a great runner up for the best affordable flagship phone in India. This model has one of the best camera setup in this list. On the front, there is a 6.78-inch LTPO 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 32MP selfie shooter, while the rear packs a 50MP (Main) + 64MP (Telephoto) + 50MP (Ultrawide) triple cameras.

A large 5,000mAh battery pack powers this device, which supports 120W wired fast charging. Under the hood, it is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC, so you also get flagship grade processor. Other notable features include water and dust resistance, Bluetooth 5.4, and premium glass body. This phone went on sale for just under Rs 60,000 (roughly 708 US Dollars).

Xiaomi 14

While the Xiaomi 14 (Review) was launched as premium smartphone, it was soon available for a more affordable price. This made it quite a deal as a budget flagship. Two months ago, the Xiaomi 14 was listed for just Rs 47,999 (roughly 572 US Dollars). This made it the most affordable flagship phone in this list and in the Indian market.

For under 600 US Dollars, you even get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, three 50MP cameras on the rear, and a 4,610mAh battery pack, which supported 90W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. Notably, the Xiaomi 14 is also a compact flagship phone with a 6.36-inch LTPO OLED panel, which makes it shorter than most phones in the premium category.

Apple iPhone 16

Apple’s latest iPhone 16 debuted in India back in September 2024. The base model was unveiled with a starting price tag of Rs 79,900. While this isn’t exactly affordable, it is more approachable than most ultra premium smartphones. The iPhone 16 brings a notable design change with a dedicated camera button and revamped camera placement.

You’re also getting Face ID for security, 48MP dual cameras on the rear, and IP68 water and dust resistance. The base iPhone 16 is also a compact flagship, since it sports a 6.1-inch Super Retinba XDR LED screen. Unfortunately, you still get just 60Hz refresh rate, but for people already in Apple’s tight ecosystem can definitely consider this one.

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Pocophone launched its first “affordable flagship” smartphone Pocophone F1 in August with an aggressive pricing of just $300. After the phone went on sale in India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Europe, it’s now available for pre-order in the United States.

The phone’s listing appeared on B&H Photo Video’s website, with a price tag of $370 for the 6GB RAM model carrying 64GB of internal storage while the 128GB storage model is priced at $399.99. Unfortunately, the global version of the Pocophone F1 is incompatible with the CDMA networks of Verizon and Sprint and also lacks the LTE bands to operate on AT&T and T-Mobile’s 4G networks.

The Pocophone F1 flaunts a 6.18-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display which offers 2246 x 1080 pixels screen resolution and 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The display supports up to 500-nits brightness and a high contrast ratio of 1500:1. For protection from minor scratches, there’s a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass on top.

Under the hood, the handset is powered by Qualcomm‘s flagship Snapdragon 845 processor and comes with LiquidCool technology. The company says that it decided to place a copper heat sink above the chipset which helps in dissipating the heat generated by it, allowing the phone to transfer heat at a faster rate of 300 percent.

Coming to the camera department, the phone comes with a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor with a massive pixel size of 1.4micron coupled with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor on the back panel. It is equipped with features like Dual Pixel Autofocus, real-time AI photography and dual-LED flash. On the front side, there’s a 20-megapixel selfie camera powered with AI for capturing enhanced selfie shots.

It runs on a modified MIUI, based on MIUI 9.6 with the new POCO Launcher on top. It includes a lot of customizations such as the inclusion of an app drawer that easily categories apps for easier access and it also carries support for icon packs. The customized MIUI, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo has been optimized to launch popular apps quickly, smoothly run apps in the foreground and supports fluid gesture-based navigation.

The device comes with an IR scanner that enables Face Unlock feature. The Pocophone F1 is powered by a 4,000mAh battery that also carries support for Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. According to the company, it offers 8 hours of gaming, around 6 hours of Full-HD video playback, nearly 31 hours of talk time and standby time of 15 days.

I’ve had the Meizu MX5 for a month already and used it interchangeably with other phones. During this period of time I received like 5 software updates that improved a lot of things and this review is based on the latest and greatest UI version from Meizu.

Meizu MX5 Review: CONCLUSIONS

So there you have it, affordable yet stylish all-metal Meizu MX5. It has a great design and outstanding build quality except for those a bit wobbling buttons.

The phone has a well implemented UI, which gets better and better with constant software updates, great performance, quite an impressive camera, great battery life and a fantastic fingerprint scanner.

That doesn’t mean the phone excellent, though. The display is good but the viewing angles are not excellent due to a small reflection, which leads to a bit washed out colours if you look from an extreme angle. But… I’m being bloody picky here.

Also, the lack of microSD card slot makes the 16GB model obsolete for heavy users and I honestly don’t understand why manufacturers keep producing devices with such a low amount of storage. Just give us a microSD card slot! Of course, you can opt in for a 32GB or even 64GB models.

All in all, for under $350 unlocked you are getting a great device. While it is not perfect but it is definitely a great buy for the price despite a few shortcomings.
