AGM is a Chinese brand known for its rugged smartphones. In December 2019 it announced a budget, rugged smartphone called the AGM H2. Now, more than a year later, it has announced a new color variant for the phone.

The AGM H2 comes in a new colorway called Premium Black which ditches the red accents of the original for a more subtle all-black look. The new color variant is available in two configurations. Below are their price tags:

• 4GB RAM + 64GB = ¥1099 (~$169)
• 6GB RAM + 128GB = ¥1299 (~$199)

The AGM H2 has a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 720. Even with its aspect ratio, the phone still has thick bezels. There is a UNISOC Tiger T310 processor powering it. The chipset, which is the first quad-core LTE chip to use the DynamIQ Architecture, has one Cortex-A75 core and three Cortex-A55 cores in a single cluster.

On the back of the phone is a single 13MP camera while an 8MP sensor sits in front. There is a 4400mAh battery inside it with support for 10W charging. The AGM H2 also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 2.5W speaker. The phone is IP68 certified, has reinforced corners, and a push-to-talk (PTT) button.

In related news, AGM has also changed its logo and font. The new logo is still a combination of the alphabets A, G, and M but it drops the flat corners for rounded ones. The box the logo sits in also has rounded corners too. Surprisingly, AGM still uses the old logo on its Weibo page.

AGM is a brand known for the manufacture of rugged phones. That has n’t changed as the company has released its latest smartphone dubbed AGM H2. The device keeps up with the brand’s identity as it comes with a rugged design and IP68 waterproof and dustproof rating.

In terms of the specs, the AGM H2 is equipped with a 5.7-inch display with an HD+ resolution of 720×1440 pixels. The front design of the H2 is quite unique. It has a sizeable bezel at the top which houses the earpiece and selfie camera. At the bottom, there is a large front blasting speaker said to have a maximum sound level of 106db with superb sound quality. The phone also has what looks like a dedicated Google Assistant button at the left side of the display with a red accent. The power button and volume rockers are on the right side.

The rugged smartphone is powered by Unisoc’s (formerly Spreadtrum) Tiger T310 chipset. The processor was announced in April with a quad-core architecture. As a reminder, the Tiger T310 has 1 x Cortex-A75 core paired with 3 x Cortex-A55 cores in a single cluster. It is able to do this as a result of Arm’s DynamIQ Architecture which replaces its big.LITTLE architecture and allows you to combine a big and LITTLE core in the same cluster. This is the first quad-core LTE chipset in the world based on the DynamIQ architecture.

One of the key advantages of this architecture is that there can be an increase in performance without an increase in power consumption. When it comes to benchmarks, Unisoc says the 12nm TSMC-built Tiger T310 has a 120% improvement in performance over other quad-core processors in single-core tests and a 20% improvement in performance in multi-core tests. The chipset propelled the H2 to achieve an AnTuTu score of 144263 points, same level with the Snapdragon 670 mid-range chipset.

On the camera end, the AGM H2 packs a single 8MP sensor at the front and a single 13MP camera sensor at the rear. The phone gets its juice from an impressive 4400mAh battery said to a standby time of up to 300 hours.

The phone comes with an affordable 699 yuan ($99) price tag but details of its availability are scanty.
