We’re all familiar with Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant, but Tecno? Tecno is jumping into the AI assistant game with “Ella,” but it’s not just about setting alarms or playing music. This “all-round personal assistant” aims to be a one-stop shop for convenience and content creation. Although some of its features resemble other popular AIs out there, it’s an all-in-one solution to problems that a lot of smartphone users go through. That might be the USP of this AI assistant.

The AI brings Image Generation, Magic eraser-like features and more to the table

Here’s what to expect:

Image Generation: If you’re struggling to visualize the ideas in your head, Ella can turn your words into pictures, adding a creative spark to your projects. It’s a generative AI feature, similar to OpenAI‘s Dall-E.
Translation Powerhouse: Struggling with foreign languages is a thing of the past now. Tecno states that its AI can tackle language barriers with features like call translation, social media translation, and even generating subtitles for videos.

Inclusive Enhancements: Tecno understands the importance of diversity. Their AI adapts image generation and photo enhancements to cater to different regions, ensuring everyone gets the best results.
Smarter Photo Editing: Say goodbye to unwanted photobombers! Tecno’s AI lets you remove strangers from your pictures and even create personalized stickers and cutouts. This is very reminiscent of Google’s Magic Eraser feature, that was the highlight of the Pixel smartphones.

OPPO to unveil Xiao Bu AI Assistant powered by AndesGPT

OPPO has announced the launch of an expansive experiential activity featuring its new version of Xiao Bu Assistant, which is built on the company’s large language model, AndesGPT. The updated Xiao Bu Assistant promises to mark a significant advancement in AI conversation technology with enhanced semantic understanding capabilities, the ability to generate content from text prompts, and improved summarization skills.

OPPO Xiao Bu AI Assistant will get large model capabilities

AndesGPT, which forms the core of the upgraded Xiao Bu Assistant, is a large language model developed by OPPO’s Andes Intelligent Cloud team. It operates on a hybrid cloud architecture and has been in development for two years, following a series of self-developed models, OBERT, with different levels of complexity and performance capabilities. The OBERT models boasted parameters ranging from one hundred million to one billion and managed to gain impressive recognition, briefly ranking fifth in the Chinese language understanding benchmark CLUE1.1 and first in the large-scale knowledge graph question-answering KgCLUE1.0 leaderboard.

AndesGPT builds upon the OBERT model, adopting various key technologies that bring about its unique features. This includes continuous learning from Chinese dialogue data, instruction fine-tuning, the incorporation of reinforcement learning with human feedback, and enhancement of the knowledge base. Such a combination of technologies makes it an ambitious project, representing the efforts of OPPO to be at the forefront of conversational AI. Notably, AndesGPT ranked fifth in the C-Eval evaluation rankings in June of this year.

By drawing on the considerable research and development that went into the OBERT models, OPPO has been able to produce a more refined, contextually aware, and responsive conversational assistant.

The move by OPPO aligns with the trend in the tech industry where AI integration is becoming a standard, following other companies like Huawei and Xiaomi.

Microsoft has been working for a long time to bring an AI assistant to Windows. They first tried this in January 2015 with Cortana, but it wasn’t successful. Cortana was shut down recently, after eight years. However, inspired by the AI trend started by ChatGPT, Microsoft decided to try again. They began working on a feature called Windows Copilot. Now, they have released an early preview of Windows Copilot. Here are the details…

What are the benefits of using Windows Copilot?

When Cortana was first announced, many people were excited about the idea of having an AI assistant to help them with their daily tasks. However, the technology wasn’t quite there yet, and Cortana never lived up to its full potential. Now, Microsoft is trying again with Windows Copilot.

This new AI assistant is currently in preview for Windows 11 Dev Channel Insiders. Copilot is designed to provide real-time assistance, helping users with tasks like writing code, composing emails, and creating presentations. The assistant can be accessed by clicking on a taskbar button or using the keyboard shortcut WIN + C.

Once activated, Windows Copilot will appear as a panel on the side of the screen. Users can then give commands to the assistant, such as “type ‘hello world'” or “open Microsoft Edge.” The assistant will then take care of the rest, automatically typing or opening the requested item. In addition to providing real-time assistance, Windows Copilot can also learn from users’ habits and preferences over time.

Huawei Assistant now supports esports, offers news from major gaming events and tournaments

Huawei has just announced that its AI based Assistant will now offer users up to date news regarding the esports industry, with live scores and more from major gaming events and tournaments from across the globe.

As per an official press release, the Chinese tech giant will now support esports cards in their Huawei Assistant, which users can access with a single swipe. The company stated that this would make it the first virtual smartphone assistant to support esports ‘card’. These cards would offer “up to the minute scores, results and news from major gaming events, leagues and tournaments all over the world.” For those unaware, esports has become one of the largest markets in the entertainment industry and is an ever growing platform as well.

In Europe alone, esports enthusiasts are expected to rise to 113 million individuals by 2023. Notably, Huawei is exclusively partnering with live score app developer SofaScore to integrate its new ‘esports discipline’ into the Assistant. At the moment, the esports market is growing rapidly in Europe, while global revenues is estimated to reach 1.1 billion US Dollars within the next three years with audiences from across the globe numbering at 495 million.

SofaScore is currently listed on AppGallery and specializes in offering detailed esports related data and analytics. The data from the app is provided in real time from various sporting events, leagues, and championships that are live from all over the world. The app is supported in over 30 languages and covers more than 20 disciplines with over 20 million active monthly users. The three major leagues include: CS:GO (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive), Dota 2 (Defense of the Ancients 2), and LoL (League of Legends).

Xiaomi’s latest smart home camera has an AI Assistant

Xiaomi announced a new smart home camera today. The new camera launches under the Mijia brand and has a built-in AI Assistant.

The Mijia Smart Home Camera with AI has a similar design to some of Xiaomi/Xiaoyi’s other smart cameras. It can record in 1080p (H.265 encoding) and supports 360° pan-tilt-and-zoom. Inside the camera is the Ambarella S3LM IP camera chipset. There is also a Texas Instrument motor driver and dual digital noise reduction microphones.

The Mijia Smart Home Camera with AI has a 1/2.7” CMOS sensor with a large 3um pixel size. It also has nine 940nm IR lamps for illumination when in night vision mode. Since they are 940nm lamps, there is no red glow produced like 850nm IR lamps. This way, intruders can’t tell if there is a camera in the house.

With Xiaomi’s Ai assistant on board, the camera can do more than just record what it sees. You can give it voice commands to take pictures or record a video message. It can also control other smart home products like the Mi Robot vacuum cleaner, the smart plugs, lights, air purifier, and TV. Xiaomi also says the camera can stream music and audiobooks from a bunch of services to keep you and your family entertained.

There are a number of other features baked into the ¥ 399 (~$58) camera. If you want one, you can purchase a unit on the Youpin site though we won’t recommend it to those living outside of China or who don’t understand Chinese.

LeEco Teaser Confirms Dual Camera Phone with Powerful AI Assistant

Today, LeEco started sending out invitations an event on April 11. The event is expected to be the launch of a new phone with dual cameras and a powerful AI system.

The dual cameras on LeEco’s new device are expected to work in a monochrome + RGB format. This will allow the cameras take better pictures under low light conditions. For the AI system, LeEco’s new phone will be able to work via voice alone. Just by speaking a command, you will be able to carry out functions like making a call. That sounds basic but it is also said that the assistant learns over time, increases its level of integration with the phone and even includes 3rd party apps functionality.

The rest of the specs for the device are unknown but sources say it will be powered by Mediatek’s Helio X27. Alongside a teaser image released today, there was also a video which can be checked out below.

The US Version of The Huawei Mate 9 Will Have Amazon’s Alexa

The Huawei Mate 9 was released last year in Europe first before making it to its home country in China. A spokesperson revealed that it will be heading to US markets soon. But that’s just half of the good news as the source also added that the US version will be getting an Alexa update.

Amazon’s Alexa is having an amazing year already with so many 3rd party manufacturers launching devices with the assistant baked in. An example is the Lenovo Smart Assistant that not only has the AI companion but also shares design similarities to the Echo. Now Huawei is joining the Alexa train not with the Honor 6X that was just launched in the US but with the flagship Mate 9.

This is good news for both parties. First for Huawei, as it will give the Mate 9 a huge boost in sales; and for Amazon, since this is an opportunity for Alexa to be integrated into phones seeing as the Amazon Fire Phone was not a success.

Quite a number of Americans already have Alexa in their homes via the Echo, Tap, and Dot speakers but the Mate 9 puts it in their pockets.

The Huawei Mate 9 has a 5.9-inch display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage; a 2.4GHz Kirin 960 SoC; dual rear cameras (20MP+12MP) wit OIS, optical zoom, and laser focus; an 8MP front facing shooter; rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 4000mAh battery with Supercharge. The Mate 9 also ships with Android Nougat out of the box.

The Huawei Mate 9 will be available for purchase on Amazon, Best Buy, B&H,and NewEgg starting at $599. There is still no date of release yet but we presume it shouldn’t be far off.
