Huami launched the Amazfit GTS 2e and Amazfit GTR 2e in January 2021. While the smartwatches come with several impressive features, they did not have Alexa Voice Assistant support. Huami has now pushed a new firmware update to the two smart wearables. The software update, applicable to users in India, will allow users to interact smartly with their smart wearable device to carry out a raft of activities via voice commands that Alexa would execute.

The GTS 2e and GTR 2e are slightly lower versions of GTS 2 and GTR 2. They are pretty affordable and, with the new update with support for Voice Assistant, the two models will remain in top demand for some time within the subcontinent. However, both models do not support Wi-Fi connectivity, implying that they both have a longer battery life than their more expensive alternatives.

In a statement by the Amazfit Team in India, the company notified the public that the much-awaited Alexa for the Amazfit GTS 2e and GTR 2e is now available for users to enjoy voice interaction, play music, provide weather forecast, and lots more. Users were encouraged to update their devices to enjoy the Alexa support.

The firmware for the update is firmware version 1.0.2.31. The update can be installed via the Zepp app, which is the official Amazfit app for smartwatches. Once the update has been successfully installed, users must add Amazon Alexa to their Account Profile on the Zepp app. They will be prompted to log in with their Amazon account, and the on-screen instructions will guide users to the completion of the linking of Alexa.

As usual, Amazfit has made the GTR 2e and GTS 2e smartwatches official a day before the January 19 launch in India. Both the wearables are priced under ₹10k in the country and offer features like Heartrate, Blood Oxygen Monitoring, and more.

Amazfit GTR 2e, GTS 2e India Price, Availability

Amazfit India has revealed the prices of these new GT-2 smartwatches on its official website and other e-commerce platforms. You can take a look at them below:

The Amazfit GTR 2e will be available in Obsidian Black, Slate Grey, and Matcha Green colors. The Amazfit GTS 2e, on the other hand, will retail in Moss Green, Obsidian Black, and Lilac Purple options.

Both these smartwatches are already listed as ‘Buy Now’ on the Amazfit India website. Additionally, the GTR 2e will be available on Amazon which says the sale starts Midnight(i.e, January 19 at 0:00 AM IST(UTC+05:00). The GTS 2e teaser page on Flipkart says it’s ‘coming soon’ which is mostly the same as January 19.

If you recall, the ‘e’ versions of the GT-2 series are updated to the older GTR 2 and GTS 2 smartwatches. They brought improvements to battery life, a new Temperature sensor back at December launch in China. Later, the devices got introduced to other markets like USA(@ CES 2021).

Amazfit GTR 2e, GTS 2e Specifications and Features

Anyway, the smartwatches feature a round display(GTR 2e-1.39-inch, 326 PPI) and a Square Display(GTS 2e-1.65-inch, 341 PPI). Both these are AMOLED displays and come with 50+ watch faces, 90 sports modes.

The display on GTR 2e has a 454x454p resolution with 450 nits brightness whereas GTS 2e has lesser 348 x 442 pixels. Compared to their GTR 2, GTS 2 siblings, they come with improved battery life. Precisely, GTS 2e with a 246mAh battery is claimed to give 14-day battery life in Normal and 24-days in Basic Watch modes.

The GTR 2e, however, will give a higher 24-days(Normal), and 45-days(Basic Watch Mode) with 471mAh battery. Other similar features include a new Temperature measurement sensor, Huami’s self-developed BioTracker ², Heartrate, Blood Oxygen(PPG) and sleep tracking, 5ATM water resistance, Bluetooth 5.0/BLE, GPS, and microphone.

Back in December, Huami announced the updated versions of the GTR and GTS 2 lineup in China. Carrying the GTR 2e and GTS 2e moniker, the wearables brought improvements to battery life, featured a new Temperature Sensor. After bringing this to markets like the USA, the company is finally bringing it to India.

In a tweet, Amazfit India has announced that it will be launching the Amazfit GTR 2e and GTS 2e in the country on January 19. A video teaser shared by the company shows the features of GTS 2e like AMOLED display, Heartrate, Blood oxygen Monitoring, and more.

In fact, both the smartwatches feature similar features but a different battery and display i.e, Square-shape on GTS 2e and Round display on GTR 2e. Also, they are identical to the previous versions, GTR 2 and GTS 2 except for the dimensions and above mentioned minor points. Speaking of which, during the China launch, Huami said that GTS 2e will give a 14-day battery life which is also evident in the teaser.

Similarly, GTR 2e will have a claimed battery life of 24-days(Normal) and 45-days(Basic Watch Mode). To compare the older GTS 2 and GTR 2 had a Normal Battery life of 7-days and 14-days respectively. Anyway, the GTR 2e and GTS 2e will also have other features like a microphone, a New Temperature sensor but it won’t have enough internal storage and a Speaker.

Also evident from the teaser that Amazfit will bring all the Obsidian Black, Dark Green, and Roland Purple colors of GTS 2e to India.

That said, both the Smartwatches will have an AMOLED screen( GTS 2e- 1.65-inch, 341 PPI, GTR 2e- 1.39-inch, 326 PPI) with 50+ AOD clock styles(GTS 2e), Heartrate(PPG-sensor), Blood oxygen monitoring(SpO2), GPS, 5ATM water resistance, sleep monitoring, 90 sports modes, 50+ watch faces, and more.

Huami has taken to CES 2021 to announce its new smartwatches, the Amazfit GTS 2e and Amazfit GTR 2e. The two smartwatches were first announced in China last month and are now available for purchase, at least in the US, starting today.

The Amazfit GTS 2e has a 1.65-inch AMOLED screen with a 341 ppi pixel density while the Amazfit GTR 2e has a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen with a 326 ppi pixel density. Both have 2.5D scratch-resistant glass covering their screens, unlike their more expensive siblings that have a 3D glass covering. There is a plethora of watch faces users can choose from and there is even the option to use your own pictures as a watch face. Huami also says that the displays can be rotated 180° to cater to both left-handed and right-handed users.

The two watches support up to 90 sports modes with auto-detection for six of them. There is also support for Blood-oxygen level measurement, sleep quality monitoring, stress detection, and all-day heart rate monitoring. There is GPS, an offline assistant, and customizable notification alerts. Users can also lock the screen with a password to prevent anyone from accessing the watch. The two smartwatches have a 5 ATM waterproof rating.

The Amazfit GTS 2e’s battery life will last up to 14 days on a single charge (24 days in basic watch mode) while that of the Amazfit GTR 2e will last up to 24 days (45 days in basic watch mode).

The GTS 2e comes in Lilac Purple, Moss Green, and Obsidian Black while the GTR 2e can be purchased in Obsidian Black, Matcha Green, and Slate Grey. Both watches have the same $139.99 price tag and can be purchased on the Amazfit US store starting today. The watches will be unveiled in India next week and should also be available in Europe later.

Amazfit GTR 2 LTE

Huami also announced that it will unveil an LTE version of the Amazfit GTR 2 The watch will arrive later this year as the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE with support for 4G, so users can make and receive calls on their watch without tethering to a phone.

As we said, the two smartwatches are more affordable models of their siblings which already launched a few months ago but a lower price tag is not the only selling point of the two watches as they also boast better battery life.

It doesn’t have built-in storage like the Amazfit GTS 2 neither does it have a speaker, so you cannot use it to receive calls. The Chinese version comes with the XiaoAI assistant but we expect the global version will have Amazon’s Alexa assistant on board. Its typical usage battery life is 14 days which is double that of the Amazfit GTS 2. The smartwatch is sold for ¥799 (~$123) in China, so we expect a price tag of under $140 for the global version.

The Amazfit GTR 2e has a smaller 1.39-inch round AMOLED display but it packs the same features as the GTS 2e such as a temperature sensor, SpO2 sensor, heart rate measurement, and sleep tracking. It doesn’t have built-in storage like the standard Amazfit GTR 2 and also misses out on a speaker. However, its battery life (typical usage) is 10 days more than that of the GTR 2 and it goes up to 45 days in basic watch mode. It also launched for ¥799 in China, so it should have the same price tag as the GTS 2e in global markets.

The Amazfit GTS 2 wasn’t the only one that got a cheaper model this week, the round-faced Amazfit GTR 2 also did. The Amazfit GTR 2e, as the watch is called, is not only cheaper but has a significantly better life, though it does miss out on some key features of the standard version.

We already compared the GTS 2 series which has three models but if you have been waiting for a comparison between the Amazfit GTR and the new Amazfit GTR 2e, then this is for you. As usual, a spec-by-spec comparison of both watches comes first before we focus on the major differences:

Design and Display

The Amazfit GTR 2 comes in two versions – Classic and Sports. The Classic version has a stainless steel case and leather straps while the Sports version has an aluminum alloy case and silicone straps. Both are covered with 3D curved glass that fuses with the frame at the edges. The Amazfit GTR 2e is practically the sports version with 2.5D glass and a different finish when it comes to its design.

For the display, the Amazfit GTR 2 and GTR 2e have the same AMOLED screen. They have the same size and the same resolution too. So save for the glass on top, the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTR 2e are identical when it comes to their displays.

Sports Modes and Features

When the Amazfit GTR 2 was announced, it supported only 12 sports modes but an update released later increased the number to 90. Huami has said that the Amazfit GTR 2e will get an OTA update that will increase the supported sports modes to 90 too.

Coming to other features, the Amazfit GTR 2 has built-in storage so that you can load up your watch with your songs and listen to them via a connected Bluetooth headset without the need for a phone when exercising. It also has a microphone and speaker, so owners can accept calls when the notification shows up on their watch without needing to bring out their phone to pick up a call.

Both the GTR 2 and GTR 2e have Xiaomi’s XiaoAI assistant but only the former has support for offline commands. We do not know if the global version of the Amazfit GTR 2e will come with Amazon’s Alexa assistant if and when it is announced in other countries.

The two smartwatches packed nearly the same senors but the Amazfit GTR 2e adds a temperature sensor for measuring ambient temperature and the temperature of the wearer’s skin.

Battery life

The Amazfit GTR 2 has a better battery life than its sibling, the Amazfit GTS 2, but the new Amazfit GTR 2e boasts an additional 10 days of usage over the GTR 2’s Typical Usage mode and extends the basic watch mode to 45 days.

Price

The Amazfit GTR 2 is priced at ¥999 (~$153) in China for the Sports Edition and ¥1099 for the Classic Edition. In the USA, the Sports Edition is $179.99 while the Classic Edition is $199.99. The Amazfit GTR 2e has an MSRP of ¥699 (~$122) and if it gets a global release, it is expected to cost a bit more but should still be under $150.

Conclusion

The Amazfit GTR 2e drops features such as built-in storage, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Bluetooth call support for a more affordable price tag but gets a significant boost in battery life. If you choose it over the standard variant, you won’t be missing much and its more affordable price tag makes it the easy choice.

However, if you want that built-in storage and support for Bluetooth calls, then you can choose the Amazfit GTR 2, though we will advise you to pick it up when it is on sale as it doesn’t pack enough features to justify its current price tag.

These models, dubbed as Amazfit GTR 2e and Amazfit GTS 2e are exactly the same as regular models in looks but with certain minor changes under the hood. Both of them are priced at ¥799 ($122) and are already up for pre-order. They will go on sale starting December 24.

The newly unveiled Amazfit GTR 2e and Amazfit GTS 2e are cheaper than the standard Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2. But they offer a much better battery life with the same capacity battery as they lack WiFi.

For instance, Huami claims 24-day battery life in normal usage and a whopping 45-day battery in basic watch mode on Amazfit GTR 2e. On the other hand, the regular Amazfit GTR 2 with the same 471mAh battery is said to run for 14 days and 38 days in these two modes respectively.

Similarly, the Amazfit GTS 2e with its 246mAh battery is advertised to offer 14-day and 24-day battery life in normal usage and basic watch mode, as opposed to 7-day and 20-day on the standard Amazfit GTS 2 with the same capacity battery.

Further, the two new wearables feature a temperature sensor, which is absent in the regular models. But to keep the price down, they neither have sufficient internal storage for the music player nor a speaker for calls. But they do come with a microphone for Xiaomi XiaoAI voice assistant.

Last but not least, there’s a negligible difference between the dimensions and weight of the newer and standard models. Also, the latest models only come in the following sporty colors.

Huami may be borrowing a leaf from Huawei with respect to its second-generation Amazfit GTR and Amazfit GTS smartwatches. Just as Huawei announced the Huawei Watch GT 2e, FCC documents have revealed two new Huami watches named Amazfit GTR 2e and Amazfit GTS 2e.

First spotted by TizenHelp, the Amazfit GTS 2e has the model number A2021 while the Amazfit GTR 2e has the model number A2023. The images from the FCC documents show that the GTR 2e will have a round display while the Amazfit GTS 2e will have a square display. Sadly, there is not much else info about the two watches.

The Huawei Watch GT 2e launched with a sporty design compared to the Watch GT 2. Although the Amazfit GTR 2 comes in both classic and sports editions, the differences between both are limited to the material of the strap and the color of the watch.

If Huami is going the same route as Huawei, then the Amazfit GTR 2e and Amazfit GTS 2e may have a more sports-like design compared to the standard models.

There is no news yet with respect to when these new watches will be announced. They may launch this year or might arrive next year. Nevertheless, we will make sure to let you know once we have more details.

At the moment, Huami has its sight set on the launch of a new smartwatch called the Zepp Z scheduled for November 17. The watch will also be announced in China on November 18.
