The Amazfit Stratos 2 finally got a successor with the launch of the Amazfit Sports Watch 3. The gap between the Sports Watch 2 aka Stratos 2 release and this new model had left some wondering if Huami was going to launch a successor. More so, the company launched the Amazfit Verge last year, deviating completely from the rugged look of the Stratos 2. The Sports Watch 3 finally arrived a few days back with a simple but classy design, putting to rest yearnings for a successor to the popular Stratos. The design looks like a blend of the Amazfit Pace and Amazfit Stratos 2 designs. It retains the multiple control buttons on the watch 2 but features a plain-looking design of the first-gen Amazfit Watch (Pace). The watch still has a rugged build, though, packing a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top of the 1.34-inch JDI Full-Moon reflective low-power colour display. The watch comes in a Standard version with a stainless steel bezel and quick-release silicone straps and an Elite Edition that is covered with AF+AR coated sapphire glass and a titanium bezel. The Elite edition uses quick-release fluoro-rubber straps. There are four buttons on both versions of the watch.

The Amazfit Sports Watch 3 comes with a retail price of ¥1299 (~$181) in China while the Elite Edition is priced at ¥1699 (~$237). There is no word yet on the global release.

AMAZFIT X Hands-on pictures

Apart from the Sports Watch 3 and Amazfit GTS, Huami also unveiled the Amazfit X Concept Watch. Here are some pictures of the smartwatch which has a flexible curved display.

As a reminder, the Amazfit X utilises an all-metal integrated design with hidden electronic buttons that replace the raised traditional buttons. The watch features a proprietary 2.07-inch flexible curved screen shaped like a new moon. The watch equally has a larger display area of up to 244% compared to the display area of wearable devices with similar size. The screen also has 326ppi, 100% NTSC high color saturation and up to 430nits screen brightness.

Since the motherboard can’t be curved, the Amazfit X uses a 3-segment motherboard in order to adapt to the curvature. The watch also packs a 220mAh curved lithium battery which is said to have support for up to 7 days battery life. You’ll have to wait until 2020 to get the Amazfit X if it catches your fancy.

Huami Technology is expected to unveil a new smartwatch on August 27 which is just days away. Before now, little is known about the product but the company has revealed that this will be the Amazfit Smart Sports Watch 3. This makes it the successor to the Amazfit Smart Sports Watch 2 also known as Amazfit Stratos. The Stratos was first launched in 2017 as a successor to the Amazfit Pace which is the first-gen Amazfit Smart Sports Watch.

Huami’s vice president, Qi Fandi, has hinted that the upcoming smartwatch will simply be called Amazfit Sports Watch 3 without the “smart” attribute since all their smartwatches are smart”. Adopting a shorter name is always cool. The watch may adopt the alias Amazfit Pace 3 since the previous-gen model was officially known as Amazfit Pace 2. The VP also hinted that the Sports Watch 3 will equally come with not just the Standard version but also an Elite edition. The elite edition will come with better craftsmanship and quality. The body of the Amazfit Sports Watch 3 Elite Edition will be manufactured using a Tic4 titanium alloy with better performance to make the new craftsmanship and technology reach the leading level in sports watches. The watch also has a glass screen made from high-hardness and wear-resistant sapphire crystal. Recall that the  Amazfit GTR 47mm also has a Titanium Edition.

Previous leaks tip the Amazfit Sports Watch 3 to feature a 1.34-inch reflective full-circle screen that is cost-effectively customized. The display is supplied by Japan Display Inc. (JDI) which is also the supplier of displays for the Apple Watch models. The watch is also revealed to have NFC meaning it will likely support contactless payment.
