Huami has put up the much-anticipated Amazfit Verge 2 Avengers Limited Edition for pre-sale in China. The Verge 2 Avengers customized edition was launched on July 11 alongside the Amazfit Verge 2 and ECG version. The regular Verge 2 was immediately available to pre-order but the ECG and Avengers Limited Edition was billed to go on sale at the end of July. That obviously didn’t happen until now. The company cites the complexity of the ceramic body and the high processing difficulty for the inability to meet up with the schedule.

The presale has now opened on Amazfit’s official flagship store on Jingdong (JD.com). The device is on offer for 1399 yuan (~$197).

The regular Verge 2 was immediately available to pre-order but the ECG and Avengers Limited Edition was billed to go on sale at the end of July. That obviously didn’t happen. The company cites the complexity of the ceramic body and the high processing difficulty for the inability to meet up with the schedule. A new sales date will be communicated later.

The Amazfit Verge 2 is one of the new smartwatches Huami released a few weeks ago in China. The watch sports a design that is totally different from that of its predecessor and also comes with new features such as an eSIM and an ECG sensor.

The Amazfit Verge 2 has been spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website which may point at a global release soon. The watch was certified on Tuesday, June 18, and the listing says the product name is “Amazfit Smart Watch 2”. But we know it is the Verge 2 because the name on the Chinese website translates to “Smart Watch 2”. The Chinese name of the original Verge and the new Verge Lite also translate to “Smart Watch” and “Smart Watch Youth Edition respectively”.

When the Verge 2 launches globally, it should take on the Apple Watch Series 4. It is priced at ¥1299 (~$189) for the ECG version while the non-ECG model has a price tag of ¥999 (~$145). That is significantly cheaper than the Apple Watch Series 4 which starts at $399.

The Amazfit Verge 2 has a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a 454 x 454 resolution and a retina-grade PPI of 326 housed in a microcrystalline zirconium ceramic frame. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2500, has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage. There is an eSIM which means you can leave your phone at home and not miss calls and messages. The Amazfit Verge 2 also has NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, an IP68 rating, and a 420mAh battery. It will go on sale in July in China.

The Amazfit Verge received excellent response last year from the users, and now here’s the Amazefit Verge 2. It carries features such as real-time ECG monitoring. Design and Build

Huami has always maintained build quality across its wearable portfolio. The newly launched Amazfit Verge 2 also follows the same footsteps. Amazfit Verge 2 comes with a premium designed round dial and skin texture. It is crafted with Microcrystalline zirconium ceramic body with extremely high hardness. It takes 35 days of precision processing and 24 complex methods to build the ceramic body. Amaze Verge 2 weighs 40 grams and measures 22.60 x 4.30 x 1.26 cm. Unlike the polycarbonate chassis build on the predecessor, Amazfit Verge 2 carries premium material making the smartwatch more durable.

Both the watches have an IP68 rating for a splash and dust-proof experience. A silicone strap is available with the Verge 2 smartwatch, whereas the Silicone+ leather hybrid strap is added on the ECG version.

Display

The Verge 2 features a 1.39-inch AMOLED color display with the resolution of 454 x 454 pixels, whereas its predecessor measures at a 1.3-inch display with the resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. The watch combines the inbuilt e-SIM technology compatible with all Chinese carriers for 4G VoLTE services. However, the Amazfit Verge sports a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor with the same RAM and storage configurations. In addition to the heart rate monitoring and multi-sport tracking, the new watch supports PPG & ECG monitoring and built-in Alipay offline payment support using NFC.

In the software department, the watch supports ten different sports activities like running, walking, riding, mountaineering, football, etc. The company has even teamed up with the Tencent to bring various services like music streaming, live translation, and QQ chat features on the watch. It is compatible with any device running Android 4.4+ and iOS 9.0.

Battery

Amazfit Verge 2’s 420 mAh battery can sustain up to 28 hours while using the 4G services. The backup will considerably improve if you turn off the e-SIM services. It can remain on standby for 20 days upon full charge. Surprisingly, its predecessor gives better battery backup due to the absence of heavy features. Amazfit Verge lasts five days with regular usage.

Price 

Considering the price of Amazon Verge 2, it is a steal deal with a small increment over the Amazon Verge. The Amazfit Verge 2 standard version is available for 999 Yuan ($144), whereas its predecessor was made available for $116. However, this time, users can also own an Avengers limited edition for 1499 Yuan ($216) and the ECG version for 1299 yuan ($187). Only 5000 units are available for the Avengers limited edition.

Amazfit Verge 2 is already up for pre-orders and is scheduled to go on sale in July.

Huami has today unveiled the next-generation model of the Verge smartwatch in China. The device known as Amazfit Verge 2 deviates significantly from the Verge with a refreshed design but on the inside, it dwarfs the Verge with several new features. The Amazfit Verge 2 builds on Huami’s aspiration to position the smartwatch line as not just a sports-centric watch like the Stratos but a complete smartwatch. This time around the company seems to have gotten it right with the simple but classy design. The Verge 2 also looks to take on the Apple Watch series 4 with several spectacular features and affordable pricing. Huami also announced the Amazfit Verge Lite which had already been unveiled on its official store with same features as the Verge but a cheaper price tag.

DESIGN & FEATURES: AMAZFIT VERGE 2

The Verge 2 features a 1.39-inch AMOLED color display with a resolution of 454x454pixels with retina-grade 326 PPI. The display is covered with a 2.5D glass which offers some bit of protection. The watch comes with four redesigned custom watch faces; simple, dashboard, classic, and caterpillar.

On the internals, the Amazfit Verge 2 smartwatch is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2500 series processor with a frequency of 1.1GHz. The processor is paired with 512MB of RAM while there is 4GB of eMMC storage onboard. The watch also comes with a built-in e-SIM communication module, making it the first 4G VoLTE call-supporting smartwatch from Huami. The e-SIM function isn’t tied to any particular carrier network but supports all the carriers in China. The Verge 2 has a 420mAH battery with a battery life of 28 hours, obviously, due to the heavy features onboard. The watch also comes with a GPS module that can be used for ten different sports modes (running, walking, indoor running, indoor riding, elliptical, mountaineering, outdoor riding, football, skipping, trail running).

Another spectacular feature on the Amazfit Verge 2 is the ECG version. The ECG version integrates Huami’s Huangshan No. 1 AI processor, which not only enables accurate heart rate monitoring 24 hours a day but also allows for real-time screening of PPG & ECG arrhythmia with atrial fibrillation. The watch also comes with features such as Alipay offline payment support, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2+BLE, WiFi, etc. The watch has an IP68 rating just like its predecessor which means you still can’t take a shower with it.

Huami is also in partnership with Tencent to bring Tencent music streaming, live translation and QQ chat features on the watch. The feature will be added via an OTA update in the near future.

The Verge 2 comes with silicone straps while the ECG version has a Silicone+ leather hybrid strap. Huami has been on a release spree lately, releasing the Amazfit Verge Lite and Amazfit Bip Lite in China. The company is set to unveil a new Amazfit watch soon. According to a teaser released by the company, the Watch will be announced on June 11 in China. The prelaunch poster also revealed some of the features it would pack.

First off, Qualcomm China disclosed that it is assisting Huami with the latest Snapdragon mobile platform on its next-gen Amazfit smart products. The smartwatch is said to come with full Netcom eSIM function that allows the smartwatch to be used to make calls independently. eSIM is still relatively new on smartphones with the Apple Watch series 4 being the most prominent smartwatch that came with full Netcom eSIM feature. eSIM allows smartwatches to be inserted without a physical SIM card, simply by setting up a contract with a telecom operator.

The prelaunch teasers adopt the mantra “I love you Three Thousand”. This is apparently in reference to the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset that would power the wearable device. The Wear 3100 chipset was first announced in September 2018 and came with several improvements over the Wear 2100.

Huami’s vice-president, Wei Fandi had reported released a picture of the packaging box bearing the inscription “for internal testing of Unicom” in addition to confirming the name Amazfit Verge 2. In addition, Huami confirmed it will be teaming up with Marvel Avengers to launch an Avengers edition of the upcoming smartwatch. The colourful teaser poster has a silhouette of the letter V which again point at this being a next-gen iteration of the Verge.
