<h3><strong>Design and assembly</strong></h3>
<p>Most of the Amazfit smartwatches are known for their cost-cutting square dials, but the Amazfit GTR is breaking the regime with a round dial. It beautifully fits in hand and is more attractive than the Amazfit Verge. The newly launched GTR is 5ATM water and dust resistant and can resist water up to the depth of 50 meters, whereas the Amazfit Verge carries IP68 certification only. The Amazfit GTR is available in two different sizes &#8211; 42 mm and 47 mm. The slimmer variant is about 9.2mm thick and weighs 25.5 grams. However, the 47mm variant is a bit heavy and bulkier weighing over 48 grams. The Amazfit 47 mm version comes in aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium metals. <span style="background-color: #ffffff;color: #3e433e;font-family: 'Open Sans', HelveticaNeue, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;letter-spacing: 0px">The Amazfit Verge has a plastic body, circular dial, and just one plastic button on the upper right.</span><span style="background-color: #ffffff;color: #3e433e;font-family: 'Open Sans', HelveticaNeue, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;letter-spacing: 0px"> It becomes quite difficult to charge the Amazfit Verge.</span></p>
<p>Huami has introduced the new titanium build for the first time on any Amazfit watch. On average, the titanium build goes through 15 processes and takes 55 days to produce a single unit of the titanium watch. It is widely used in the aerospace industry due to its incomparable properties like hardness, corrosion resistance, lightweight and biocompatibility. The titanium smartwatch version comes paired with a rubber-coated hybrid strap. It is coated with a high wear-resistant oxide layer to enhance strap durability.</p>
<p>The stainless steel comes coated with high-gloss IP chrome film and AF anti-fingerprint film coating to enhance the metallic color.</p>
<h3><strong>Display: </strong></h3>
<p>The bigger Amazfit GTR wins with  1.39 -inches AMOLED display and the resolution of 454 x 454 pixels with 326 PPI pixel density. It has the most vibrant and large display. Meanwhile, the 43mm version is a bit small with 1.2-inches AMOLED display and 290 x 290 pixels resolution. Both the smartwatches fare well against the Amazfit Verge which carries a 1.3-inch display and 360 x 360 pixels resolution. Other features like Anti-Fingerprint coating makes the new watch our favorite pick among both. The AMOLED displays on both the smartwatches make the text more crisp and clear.</p>
<h3><strong>Hardware</strong></h3>
<p>The Amazfit Verge uses a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 512 MB RAM and 4GB onboard memory. However, the Amazfit GTR uses low-power chip along with a new circuit design aimed at optimizing the power usage. It facilitates the brightness control and motion modes to save power.  The power efficiency is improved with the reduction in the power consumption of about 48.7%. The GPS is optimized and has jolted down the use by 51.2 percent.</p>
<p>Amazfit GTR hosts 15 different sensors including BioTracker PPG Bio-Tracking Optical Sensor, 6-Axis Accelerometer, 3 Axial Geomagnetic Sensor, Air Pressure Sensor, Capacitive Sensor, Ambient Light Brightness Sensor, and others.</p>
<h3><strong>Software</strong></h3>
<p>The customers can easily choose between 100 dials having different styles and effects to customize the watch&#8217;s UI. Every dial is efficient and displays massive information like time and date, heart rate, steps count, remaining power, etc. all on a single screen.</p>
<p>To make the Operating system more intuitive and streamlined, Huami has divided functions into three different parts of daily, sports and health use. The Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity facilitates users to get text messages, email, calendars, social applications, and other information reminders.</p>
<p>On the other hand, Users can also initiate cardless transactions with the help of in-built NFC chip. Amazfit has integrated the NFC functionality with subway cards across 253 cities in China. It also supports bus transfer card. Alipay support is also present on the new Amazfit GTR watch for offline code-scan payments.</p>
<p>Amazfit Verge introduced ten different sports activities. Meanwhile, Amazfit GTR has 12 professional sports modes with 100 sports courses. It can easily differentiate and measure walking, running, outdoor riding, swimming, and different exercises. In real-time, it can report high heart rate, pressure rate, and other metrics.</p>
<p>Unlike the Amazfit verge, the Amazfit GTR supports Huami&#8217;s own BioTracker PPG technology which can precisely monitor 24-hour uninterrupted heart rate and can also report heart vibrations. It also helps to measure fat burning during exercise.</p>
<p>Amazfit Verge is compatible with any device running Android 4.4+ and iOS 9.0. The newly launched smartwatch supports Android 5.0+ and iOS 10.0 and above running devices.</p>
<h3><strong>Battery</strong></h3>
<p>The Amazfit Verge can withstand five days of regular usage upon the full charge, whereas, the new GTR smartwatch can work up to 24 days with regular usage. Notably, the Amazfit GTR 47 mm version comes with a 410 mAh LiPo battery and supports up to 24-days of battery life with normal usage and extends up to 74 days in basic watch mode (turning off Bluetooth, heart-rate and other functions). The GTR 42mm variant comes with 195 mAh battery and can last up to 12-days battery life with regular use and extends to 34 days with basic watch mode.</p>
<p>However, the Amazfit Verge&#8217;s 390 mAh battery gets fully charged within an hour, but the Amazfit GTR charges take 2 hours to charge <span style="font-size: 1.125rem;letter-spacing: 0px">410 mAh battery.</span></p>
<h3><strong>Other features</strong></h3>
<p>Amazfit GTR 47mm Iron Man Edition will come with stainless steel case, iron man red-colored wristband and a Marvel&#8217;s commemorative coins. In connectivity, Huami added new Bluetooth 5.0 instead of the Bluetooth 4.0 present in the Amazfit Verge.</p>
<h3><strong>Pricing</strong></h3>
<p>Amazfit Verge was launched at the price of $116. This time, the Amazfit GTR 42mm is priced at 799 yuan ($116), and the limited edition Swarovski model will be available for 999 yuan ($145). The bigger, Amazfit GTR 47 mm aluminum and stainless steel versions will be available for 999yuan ($145). The titanium-based Iron Man special edition will go for 1399  yuan which roughly translates to $203.</p>
<p>Both the smartwatches fared well in our comparison of Amazfit GTR vs Amazfit Verge. The Verge is a bit old and is devoid of some new features, but the price is also considerably lower than the GTR.</p>

The device known as<strong> Amazfit Verge 2</strong> deviates significantly from the Verge with a refreshed design but on the inside, it dwarfs the Verge with several new features. The Amazfit Verge 2 builds on Huami&#8217;s aspiration to position the smartwatch line as not just a sports-centric watch like the Stratos but a complete smartwatch. This time around the company seems to have gotten it right with the simple but classy design. The Verge 2 also looks to take on the Apple Watch series 4 with several spectacular features and affordable pricing. Huami also announced the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/30/amazfit-verge-lite-launched-brings-improved-20-days-battery-life-but-cheaper-499-yuan-72-price/">Amazfit Verge Lite</a> which had already been unveiled on its official store with same features as the Verge but a cheaper price tag.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-10.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-258376" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-10.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="690" height="294" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-10.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-10-300x128.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>
<h4><strong>DESIGN &amp; FEATURES: AMAZFIT VERGE 2</strong></h4>
<p>The flagship Amazfit Verge 2 smartwatch comes with a spectacular design manufactured using a new material different from the plastic body which the first-gen Verge utilises. It comes with a premium build that looks more like the much-loved Stratos. The Verge 2 has a Microcrystalline zirconium ceramic body with skin texture and extremely high hardness. Huami says the ceramic body comes out after 35 days of precision processing and that it wet through 24 complex processes.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.11-PM.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-258397" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.11-PM.png?x44794" alt="Amazfit Verge 2 featured 003" width="724" height="367" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.11-PM.png 724w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.11-PM-300x152.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.11-PM-696x353.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 724px) 100vw, 724px" /></a></p>
<p>The Verge 2 features a 1.39-inch AMOLED color display with a resolution of 454x454pixels with retina-grade 326 PPI. The display is covered with a 2.5D glass which offers some bit of protection. The watch comes with four redesigned custom watch faces; simple, dashboard, classic, and caterpillar.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-6.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-258368" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-6.jpg?x44794" alt="amazfit-verge-2-6" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-6.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-6-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-6-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-6-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/amazfit-verge-2-6-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>On the internals, the Amazfit Verge 2 smartwatch is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2500 series processor with a frequency of 1.1GHz. The processor is paired with 512MB of RAM while there is 4GB of eMMC storage onboard. The watch also comes with a built-in e-SIM communication module, making it the first 4G VoLTE call-supporting smartwatch from Huami. The e-SIM function isn&#8217;t tied to any particular carrier network but supports all the carriers in China. The Verge 2 has a 420mAH battery with a battery life of 28 hours, obviously, due to the heavy features onboard. The watch also comes with a GPS module that can be used for ten different sports modes (running, walking, indoor running, indoor riding, elliptical, mountaineering, outdoor riding, football, skipping, trail running).<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.41-PM.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-258398" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.41-PM.png?x44794" alt="Amazfit Verge 2 featured 002" width="982" height="496" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.41-PM.png 982w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.41-PM-300x152.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.41-PM-768x388.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.41-PM-696x352.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.41-PM-832x420.png 832w" sizes="(max-width: 982px) 100vw, 982px" /></a></p>
<p>Another spectacular feature on the Amazfit Verge 2 is the ECG version. The ECG version integrates Huami&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/10/xiaomi-mi-band-4-likely-to-use-huamis-risc-v-based-huangshan-no-1-chip/">Huangshan No. 1 AI processor</a>, which not only enables accurate heart rate monitoring 24 hours a day but also allows for real-time screening of PPG &amp; ECG arrhythmia with atrial fibrillation. The watch also comes with features such as Alipay offline payment support, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2+BLE, WiFi, etc. The watch has an IP68 rating just like its predecessor which means you still can&#8217;t take a shower with it.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000">EDITOR&#8217;S PICK:</span> <a title="Xiaomi Mi Band 4 already available to Pre-order on AliExpress for $49.99" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/07/xiaomi-mi-band-4-already-available-to-pre-order-on-aliexpress-for-49-99/" rel="bookmark">Xiaomi Mi Band 4 already available to Pre-order on AliExpress for $49.99</a></strong></p>
<p>Huami is also in partnership with Tencent to bring Tencent music streaming, live translation and QQ chat features on the watch. The feature will be added via an OTA update in the near future.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.54-PM.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-258399" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.54-PM.png?x44794" alt="Amazfit Verge 2 featured 001" width="985" height="465" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.54-PM.png 985w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.54-PM-300x142.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.54-PM-768x363.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.54-PM-696x329.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Screenshot-2019-06-11-at-2.03.54-PM-890x420.png 890w" sizes="(max-width: 985px) 100vw, 985px" /></a></p>
<p>The Verge 2 comes with silicone straps while the ECG version has a Silicone+ leather hybrid strap. Huami also announced that the Verge 2 will support keyless entry and keyless start functions on cars <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/10/huami-and-xiaopeng-motors-team-up-to-push-new-features/">the Verge 2 will support keyless entry and keyless start functions on cars</a> manufactured by Xiaopeng Automobile. The feature will debut on the P7 model in no distant time. There is also a special Avengers Limited edition of the Verge 2.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Amazfit-Verge-2-price.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-258386" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Amazfit-Verge-2-price.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit Verge 2 price" width="600" height="255" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Amazfit-Verge-2-price.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Amazfit-Verge-2-price-300x128.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>

The name of the device translates to Amazfit smartwatch Youth Edition but we believe this is the Amazfit Verge Lite considering the similarity in design with premium Amazfit Verge. The features are also basically similar to those of the Verge except that this version offers longer battery life.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-256426" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-2.png?x44794" alt="Amazfit Verge Lite" width="658" height="496" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-2.png 658w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-2-300x226.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-2-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-2-557x420.png 557w" sizes="(max-width: 658px) 100vw, 658px" /></a></p>
<p>The Amazfit Verge Lite comes with a cheaper price tag of 499 yuan ($72) and is presently on presale in China. The smartwatch comes with same hardware lineup as the Verge. It packs a 1.3-inch circular display with a diameter of 43mm. The Verge Lite is also equipped with an AMOLED display with a resolution of 360x360pixels as well as Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Huami says there is a coating on top of the screen which prevents fingerprint smudges from accumulating on the screen during use. The smartwatch is equipped with a silicone strap that can be removed in the same manner as those of the Amazfit Pace and Stratos. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-4.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-256428" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-4.png?x44794" alt="" width="658" height="479" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-4.png 658w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-4-300x218.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-4-324x235.png 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-4-577x420.png 577w" sizes="(max-width: 658px) 100vw, 658px" /></a></p>
<p>The Verge Lite is lightweight, weighing just 46 grams as it is tailor-made for lightweight sports and daily use.  It has real-time motion tracking, heart rate monitoring, long battery life and offline payment, and other functions. In terms of functions, the AMAZFIT Verge Lite supports automatic heart rate monitoring throughout the day. Users can pay attention to their heart rate interval data in the app at any time, and intuitively control their heart rate changes in different time periods and different sports conditions. When the heart rate exceeds the warning value, the watch will vibrate immediately. It also records nighttime sleep data, analyzes sleep quality, and there is a built-in sedentary reminder.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400"><div class="su-note" style="border-color:#e5e5e5;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><div class="su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim" style="background-color:#ffffff;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"></span><b>Editor&#8217;s Pick: </b><a title="Amazfit Bip gets a massive price cut on Amazon – Is a successor coming soon?" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/23/amazfit-bip-gets-a-massive-price-cut-on-amazon-is-a-successor-coming-soon/" rel="bookmark">Amazfit Bip gets a massive price cut on Amazon – Is a successor coming soon?</a><b></b><span style="font-weight: 400"></div></div></span></p>
<p>You also get the variety of sports mode as the device comes with support for 11 different sports mode including Golfing, Riding, Running, hiking, Gym training, Soccer and Boat riding. It also has GPS+GLONASS support. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-3.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-256427" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-3.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="600" height="372" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-3.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-3-300x186.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/amazfit-verge-lite-3-356x220.jpg 356w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The Verge Lite also has low-power sensor design which ensures it can deliver up to 20 days of battery use in daily usage. However, if the GPS is turned on, the battery can only do 40 hours. There is also support for AliPay offline payment function which can still work without a phone. This suggests the global version may get support for Google Pay or something similar but there&#8217;s no indication if it has NFC. Apart from having several Watchfaces, the Verge Lite supports more personalized settings whereby users can customize the dial background and dial display information according to personal preferences. No mention is made of XiaoAI or ALEXA voice assistant support.</p>
<p>At 499 Yuan ($72), the Amazfit Verge Lite is a tad cheaper than the 799 yuan (~$116) price tag which the Verge was launched with.</p>

<p>The watch has support for voice AI assistant &#8211; Xiaomi XiaoAI on the Chinese version. However, the US version has now gained support for Amazon&#8217;s Alexa voice assistant.</p>
<p>Owners of the Verge will be able to call up Alexa to ask it questions, get news briefings and weather updates, and set reminders just from their wrist. You can also link it with your calendar (Google, Apple. Microsoft) and ask it for your schedule. It also supports translation to several languages.</p>
<p>The feature was announced back in December when the phone launched in North America but has just been made available.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-248362" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amazfit-Verge-app.png?x44794" alt="Amazfit Verge app" width="929" height="412" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amazfit-Verge-app.png 929w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amazfit-Verge-app-300x133.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amazfit-Verge-app-768x341.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amazfit-Verge-app-696x309.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 929px) 100vw, 929px" /></p>
<p>Huami also says the Amazfit Verge now supports calls on iOS (the US only). So if you have an iPhone and have been waiting for the feature, you should go right ahead and update the watch using the Amazfit Watch app. There is also a Find Watch feature for iOS and new watch faces.</p>

It <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/02/08/huami-goes-public-new-york-stock-exchange-pricing-ipo-announced/">went public last year</a> (even before Xiaomi), and  has a number of really cool wearables under its own Amazfit lineup. I was using its Amazfit Pace (Chinese version) for the past one year and recently shifted to its newer brother, the Amazfit Verge. Despite its basic appearance, the Verge clearly is an updated model in the lineup, coming in a refined design with better features. I have spent a considerable amount of time with the review unit (maybe a bit more than what I had imagined before writing its review), so I have a thorough understanding of how it performs in your daily use case scenarios.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0323.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236688" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0323.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0323" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0323.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0323-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0323-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0323-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Amazfit Verge Review: Design</h3>
<p>Amazfit Verge may not be the best looking circular smartwatch around, but it sure is a good looking option. If you are in the search for a watch that&#8217;s smart, compact, well built, and feature-rich, the Verge won&#8217;t disappoint. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0325.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236689" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0325.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0325" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0325.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0325-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0325-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0325-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>The watch has a very snug fit and the compact size ensures that it stays in place throughout the day. The watch case is made out of reinforced plastic, so nothing fancy like the ceramic body on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/amazfit">Amazfit</a> Pace. However, the plastic is of good quality and in more than a month, I haven&#8217;t got any major scratches or wear and tear marks on the device. Personally, the design highlight for me is the way the straps connect to the main body of the watch. While the straps are standard and swappable via a spring mechanism, they connect to the watch seamlessly. On first glance, you&#8217;d easily mistake that it&#8217;s a one piece design. The silicone staps does not feel cheap and in fact, I find it of better quality than the ones I have on the Pace.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0345.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236697" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0345.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0345" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0345.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0345-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0345-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0345-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>What I have got with me is the black model. It comes with a dual tone finish (Black+ Light Grey) and looks pretty premium. The orange accents on the top and the orange power button (there&#8217;s just one button like the Pace) make the watch&#8217;s design pretty unique. However, Huami has ensured that the overall design is subtle and nothing flashy. So, the watch should blend well with all your attires.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0369.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236708" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0369.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0369" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0369.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0369-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0369-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0369-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>There&#8217;s a 1.3-inch <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED</a> (43mm) display on the front. Note that this is a full circular display with a pretty high 360 x 360 resolution, so no black bars at the bottom. I&#8217;ll talk about the display in detail in the next section.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0363.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236707" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0363.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0363" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0363.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0363-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0363-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0363-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>There&#8217;s a speaker on the left and power button and microphone on the right. After reading this, I&#8217;m sure you won&#8217;t be surprised to hear that the Amazfit Verge can make and receive phone calls via the connected smartphone. The bottom features pins for charging and the heart rate sensor.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0328.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236690" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0328.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0328" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0328.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0328-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0328-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0328-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>The watch is IP68 certified, so it&#8217;s water and dust proof, however, note that you can&#8217;t take the watch out for swimming or even shower. In my personal experience, Amazfit watches are built to last. So, any kind of accidental exposure to such an environment doesn&#8217;t really break the device. However, it&#8217;s best to be safe than sorry.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0333.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236694" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0333.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0333" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0333.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0333-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0333-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0333-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>I have seen that a lot of people don&#8217;t like the compact design on the Verge. They call it plasticky and basic. I had my doubts as well, especially after seeing the initial pictures of the device. However, the design has grown on to me. I like that it&#8217;s non-intrusive and compact. It&#8217;s just 46 grams so I really don&#8217;t feel weighed down by the watch. At the same time, it feels premium, has all the bells and whistles of a premium smartwatch and has a unique look.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0336.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236696" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0336.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0336" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0336.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0336-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0336-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0336-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>I can wear it for an entire day without noticing it in my hand and I feel that&#8217;s how fitness-centric smartwatches should be. Watches like the Stratos and Galaxy Watch are the ones you show off. And the Verge is the one that stays with you all day long, keeping a close eye on your fitness and health.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Amazfit Verge Review: Display</h3>
<p>I&#8217;m dedicating a separate section for the display of the watch because that&#8217;s the biggest part of any smartwatch. One thing is certain, the Amazfit Verge has got the best display in the entire Amazfit range. The OLED display is really beautiful with rich colors and stellar touch response.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0388.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236716" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0388.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0388" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0388.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0388-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0388-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0388-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>Considering how the Pace, BIP, and Stratos come with transreflective displays, the colors on this watch are refreshing to look at. However, outdoor visibility takes a hit. You&#8217;ll make out time and maybe a few other details under direct sunlight, but it can&#8217;t compete with the displays on its older siblings. Personally, I&#8217;m not someone who spends a lot of my time outdoors, directly under the sun, so I&#8217;m pretty satisfied with the display on the Verge.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0398.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236721" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0398.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0398" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0398.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0398-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0398-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0398-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>Having an OLED display has a lot of advantages. Apart from the rich colors, you also have a low power Always on Display. I hate seeing a lot of smartwatches that are rendered useless in the display off mode. This is where the AOD comes into the picture. The Amazfit Verge has an option where you can enable always on display. This will keep time on the screen all the time. It changes according to the watch face, which is pretty neat. Despite the slightly increased battery usage, it&#8217;s definitely useful in your day to day life.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0354.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236703" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0354.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0354" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0354.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0354-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0354-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0354-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>Apart from the power button to switch on the display, you can also double tap the screen to light it up. Or just lift your wrist to reveal the watch face. The overall experience is smooth and flawless.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Amazfit Verge Review: Usage</h3>
<p>I&#8217;ll take you through the Verge&#8217;s UI before I start talking about the watch&#8217;s features in details.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236711" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0381" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>If you have used an Amazfit Watch before, you&#8217;ll be familiar with the Verge&#8217;s UI as well. You can double tap the screen to wake and there are nearly 10 watch faces pre-installed. Among them, there are three to four watch faces which are really cool and I personally have been using these special watch faces throughout my review period. There are some funky options as well, so if you are feeling particularly bold one day, you can try out these watch faces which have unique animations and colors.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0400-e1550384843235.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236722" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0400-e1550384843235.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0400" width="607" height="656" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0400-e1550384843235.jpg 607w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0400-e1550384843235-278x300.jpg 278w" sizes="(max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px" /></a></p>
<p>Note that, the watch comes with default AOD turned off. You have to manually go in the settings to turn it on.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0359.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236706" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0359.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0359" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0359.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0359-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0359-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0359-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>A simple click of the power button or double tap on the screen turns on the display. You are greeted with the watch face up front.</p>
<p>Swipe from left to right on the screen and you&#8217;ll meet the XiaoAI assistant. For a non-Chinese user, it&#8217;s of practically no use. Also, you need your phone paired to use this feature. In the assistant menu, there&#8217;s your calendar too. Swiping from right to left from the watch face takes you to the assigned menus.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0377.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236710" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0377.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0377" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0377.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0377-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0377-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0377-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>I have personally set my pedometer counter to come up with a single right swipe. After the assigned menus, you&#8217;ll meet the app drawer. Given that this is the Chinese version of the app, it took me a while to get used to the app icons. But looking at the icons, you get a fair idea of what&#8217;s inside.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236711" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0381" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0381-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>You can always use Google translate (camera mode) to get an idea about the apps inside the drawer.  To make your life easier, this is the order of the apps.</p>
<ol>
<li>HR (Heart Rate)</li>
<li>Activities (Outdoor running, Outdoor walking, Outdoor cycling, Treadmill running, Indoor cycling, Elliptical, Hiking, Wild running, Skiing, Tennis, Football). Note that each mode is customized to its specific activity. For example, in football mode, there are options like first half, second half and so on. The same applies to each sports activity mode in the app.</li>
<li>Sleep</li>
<li>Activity Stats</li>
<li>Phone / Call</li>
<li>Alipay</li>
<li>Bus Card</li>
<li>MIJIA (Smart Home)</li>
<li>Music</li>
<li>Weather</li>
<li>Alarm Clock</li>
<li>Timer</li>
<li>Stopwatch (can run in background)</li>
<li>Schedule / Calender</li>
<li>Compass</li>
<li>Himalaya App (Podcast Player)</li>
<li>Maps</li>
<li>Mi TV</li>
<li>Settings</li>
</ol>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I had an issue syncing my Himalaya Podcast app on the phone with the watch. I am hoping a future update will fix the issue.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0392.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236719" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0392.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0392" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0392.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0392-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0392-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0392-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>From home/watch face, you can swipe down to access your notifications. App notifications from apps like Twitter, Slack, Whatsapp show in detail. However, you can&#8217;t reply to notifications. Something like a quick reply feature seen on Fitbit Versa would have been handy, but unfortunately, you&#8217;ll have to access your phone if you want to revert back to the text.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0391.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236718" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0391.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0391" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0391.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0391-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0391-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0391-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>You can drag any notification to the right to dismiss it. Or just drag to the left to silence that app. Unfortunately, I couldn&#8217;t find a dismiss all option for the notification menu and if you have twitter or WhatsApp notifications turned on, you&#8217;ll often find the place filled with a lot of notifications.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Now, let&#8217;s take a look at some of the watch&#8217;s features in detail.</strong></p>
<p>I have started jogging and the Amazfit Verge has been my daily companion. The pedometer on the device seems pretty accurate and it&#8217;s smart enough not to easily register false step counts.</p>
<p>In the outdoor running mode, the watch comes with a rich interface which shows you all the necessary information like distance traveled, average speed, total time elapsed, heart rate, and so on. In this particular mode, you can further swipe right to get more details like heart rate pattern throughout your jogging period, and even a rough map of your track.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/MVIMG_20190210_084720-e1550387519316.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236798" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/MVIMG_20190210_084720-e1550387519316.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit verge running stats" width="960" height="985" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/MVIMG_20190210_084720-e1550387519316.jpg 960w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/MVIMG_20190210_084720-e1550387519316-292x300.jpg 292w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/MVIMG_20190210_084720-e1550387519316-768x788.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /></a></p>
<p>Once you end the outdoor jogging mode (swipe left and there&#8217;s one &#8216;Pause&#8217; and a &#8216;Finish button&#8217; with a flag icon), you get a summary of the job with a lot of details. Since it&#8217;s all in Chinese, you&#8217;ll have a hard time figuring out the exact information, but you do get an idea of all the important details at one glance.</p>
<p>As for sleep tracking, it may not be the best out there but I feel it does a pretty decent job. Unlike the cheap Mi Band 3 which for some reason always thought my deep sleep wasn&#8217;t more than an hour every day, the Amazfit Watch is a bit more forgiving. Personally, I feel the watch gives you a pretty fair idea about your overall sleep, like the total time in bed, deep sleep timing, light sleep timing, time of sleep, and getting up time. It&#8217;s light and compact enough not to weigh your down in your sleep, so you actually won&#8217;t mind wearing it in bed.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0385.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236713" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0385.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0385" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0385.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0385-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0385-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0385-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>The heart rate sensor on this device is one of its biggest highlights. The Verge occasionally checks your heart rate to ensure that everything is fine. In fact, if you keep your phone on the side, you&#8217;d often notice that the heart rate sensor&#8217;s green light flickers at regular intervals. This means that the watch is checking your heart rate between set intervals. As Huami explained at the time of launch, the Verge can detect unusual heart rate patterns automatically and these occasional checks are a part of that process. As for the accuracy of the heart rate shown on the watch, it&#8217;s pretty good. There have been one or two cases where I was jogging and the heart rate was under 80 (which was pretty surprising). However, I realized that the watch had a loose fit and that could be the reason why the HR was inaccurate. Once I re-strapped my watch firmly on to my wrist, the HR monitor was back to normal.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0387.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236715" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0387.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0387" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0387.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0387-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0387-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0387-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>Coming to the phone call experience, it&#8217;s pretty neat. As I mentioned above, the watch has its own loudspeaker and microphone, so you can make calls using the paired smartphone. The phone app has options like call logs, contacts, and even a dial pad. Once you make or receive a call, you have the option to mute, increase/ decrease volume, end it, or even transfer it to the smartphone. The loudspeaker is decent and you can hear the other person if you are in a quiet environment. However, the microphone isn&#8217;t that great and unless you are loud, the person on the other side is going to have a hard time understanding what&#8217;s being said. But this feature does come in handy when you are driving or want to quickly take a call without accessing your smartphone.</p>
<p>Rest of the features work well. I like the fact that the stopwatch runs in the background and you don&#8217;t have to keep it turned on at all times. The alarm clock works as it should and the speaker on the device is decent enough to wake you up every day.</p>
<p>Overall, the features of the Amazfit Watch work as described.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Amazfit Verge Review: Battery Life</h3>
<p>I wasn&#8217;t expecting anything exceptional with the watch&#8217;s battery life given that it features an OLED display. I have turned on the AOD since I hate seeing a blank black screen on my watch at any moment. Plus, the brightness is set to automatic as it does a pretty decent job adjusting the backlight by itself.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0401.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236723" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0401.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0401" width="1920" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0401.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0401-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0401-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0401-1024x575.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>With daily runs for like an hour, always connected smartphone with a lot of notifications, limited use of its music controls, and occasional sleep tracking, the Amazfit Verge survived for 3 days on average. I didn&#8217;t find it necessary to squeeze more out of the watch since I hate to keep features turned off just to save on the battery. It defeats the very purpose of getting the watch.</p>
<p>I feel 3 days is pretty decent for this watch as what comes next is its fast charging capability. You can easily get the watch charged from 4% to 100% in just one hour! In fact, if you just keep it plugged in for 15 minutes, the watch charges up to 30-35%! That&#8217;s good enough to get me through the entire day with all the features running.</p>
<p>So despite the average battery life, the fast charging on the Amazfit Verge definitely makes it an easy to use everyday smartwatch.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Amazfit Verge Review: Conclusion</h3>
<p>When I decided to get the watch for review, I was a bit skeptical. The basic design in the pictures made it look like a cheap kid&#8217;s watch, and the features were what you&#8217;d usually get on any other smartwatch. Further, the watch was in Chinese, which was going to be a hindrance in everyday use.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0347.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236699" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0347.jpg?x44794" alt="Amazfit_Verge_0347" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0347.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0347-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0347-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Amazfit_Verge_0347-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a></p>
<p>However, the Verge has definitely grown on to me over the course of time. I love the compact and lightweight design and in real life, the black version looks pretty neat and premium. There&#8217;s nothing cheap about this device and it goes with practically any attire. Despite the less than impressive outdoor viewing experience, the OLED display on the watch is beautiful on most occasions. The colors are rich and the text is crisp. The UI on board is smooth and responsive. The features work as described and even the connection with my smartwatch is lag free which means I get all of my notifications in real time.</p>
<p>What I miss is Wear OS, which would have made this watch perfect with additional app support. Also, the XiaoAi assitant is useless for me. I would be much better off with Google Assistant on board.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s definitely an upgrade over the Amazfit BIP and rivals the Ticwatch E which comes with WearOS on board. If you are looking for a TicWatch alternative, this is definitely worth checking out.</p>
<p>In short, I would definitely recommend the Amazfit Verge if you are getting it for somewhere around $150.</p>
<p>Now that the English version is out, I don&#8217;t find a lot of competitors that are going to be better than the Verge in its price segment.</p>

Apparently, the Xiaomi-backed company has been busy working on localization of the device. Indeed, the Amazfit Verge has been launched in the US and is now available to pre-order on the company&#8217;s <a href="https://us.amazfit.com/shop/verge?variant=451588" target="_blank" rel="noopener">official US online store</a> with a $159.99 price tag. This a tard higher than the 799 yuan (~$116) price tag it was launched packing in China. The device will ship for the first time on December 18.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/amazfit-verge-12.jpeg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-213032" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/amazfit-verge-12-1024x768.jpeg?x44794" alt="Amazfit Verge smartwatch" width="640" height="480" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/amazfit-verge-12-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/amazfit-verge-12-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/amazfit-verge-12-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/amazfit-verge-12-160x120.jpeg 160w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/amazfit-verge-12.jpeg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>
<p>The Amazfit Verge packs a 1.3-inch circular display with a diameter of 43mm. This is similar in size with the higher variant of Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch. Well, except that the Amazfit Verge is made from reinforced plastic, giving it a sporty outlook rather than the looks of a traditional watch which Samsung’s models adapt. The Verge is equipped with an AMOLED display with a resolution of 360x360pixels as well as Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Huami says there is a coating on top of the screen which prevents fingerprint smudges from accumulating on the screen during use. The smartwatch is equipped with a silicone strap that can be removed in the same manner as those of the Amazfit Pace and Stratos. More importantly, it is lightweight, weighing just 46 grams. The build is IP68 certified but you still can’t take the watch swimming or when going under the shower.</p>
<p>The device comes with support for 11 different sports mode including Golfing, Riding, Running, hiking, Gym training, Soccer and Boat riding. It also has GPS+GLONASS support. In addition, the smartwatch is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0+BLE. Sadly, there is no LTE connectivity but we believe that could come on subsequent versions. The watch is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 512MB RAM and 4 GB ROM. Along with the usual sensors, there are additional geomagnetic, and air pressure sensors on board. Also onboard, is a 390mAh battery which Huami claims can last up to 5 days, depending on the usage.</p>

<p>The icing on the cake is definitely the voice assistance technology with smart home integration. the Verge is focused on the Internet of Things (IoT), smart home controls, voice assistant and with NFC for contactless payment. The smartwatch will also come with Amazon Alexa support at the end of the year.</p>

The new feature will allow you to play mini-games on your Amazfit smartwatch.</p>
<p>The watchmaker took to Weibo to share a short video of a mini-game similar to Space Invaders being played on the Amazfit Verge. Even with its small 1.3-inch, the game is still playable. Other games will likely be similar to the one below, requiring just taps and not having elaborate controls on the screen.</p>

<p>Huami asked if owners would like the feature rolled out to smartwatches and from the comments, it appears fans are not too keen on it. While some raised issues about the effect on battery life, others said the manufacturer should work on improving existing features and not bother about unsolicited ones.</p>

Today the Chinese company unveiled the new Amazfit Verge which brings a wonderful design as well as advanced features at a very modest price. Here, we will compare it with other important smartwatches from this company: Amazfit Stratos and Amazfit Bip, in order to help you with your potential choice.</p>

<h3>Design and build</h3>
<p>Among these smartwatches, the new Amazfit Verge is the most beautiful one thanks to its perfectly round display, while the Amazfit Bip is definitely the ugliest one with its square display, but it is also the cheapest one. On the other hand, Amazfit Stratos offers a better water resistance and it is the only one which can be used without problems underwater, up to 50m deep. All of them have a resistant Gorilla Glass 3 and their build quality is very nice.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Display</h3>
<p>Even when it comes to display, Amazfit Verge wins. It is the only one which has an AMOLED panel, that means richer colors and very deep blacks. And it is also the smartwatch with the highest resolution, so it has the highest level of detail. It even has an oleophobic coating so fingerprints will not be a big issue.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Hardware &amp; Software</h3>
<p>Unfortunately, these are not Android Wear (or Wear OS) devices, but they have a proprietary operating system, and they are thought for sport and fitness. Amazfit Verge and Stratos are the most powerful ones in terms of hardware and the best ones when it comes to software. They can both detect your heart rate with Amazfit Verge having the best accuracy along with irregular heart beat detection. On the other hand, the Stratos is able to measure maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max). Both have multi-sport tracking with 12 sports supported. Amazfit Bip is more like a smartwatch for running and it can only monitor simple activities such as running and cycling, without supporting more sophisticated sports.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

</ul>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Battery</h3>
<p>While Amazfit Verge and Stratos have more advanced features inside their software, Amazfit Bip is the smartwatch with the best battery life. It is able to last up to 30 days with a normal usage, even more than smart bands such as the Mi Band 3. This is great, given that smart bands do not have a color display like this wearable. Amazfit Verge and Stratos can only last 5 days with a normal usage.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Price</h3>
<p>Amazfit Bip is the cheapest and you can get it for just $60/€50 all around the world. Amazfit Stratos was launched with a price tag of more than $200, while the new Amazfit Verge carries a price tag of $116. In my opinion, Amazfit Verge is the winner of this comparison for its features, the 98% accuracy of its heart rate sensor and its value for money.</p>

The highlight announcement is the brand new <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huami">Huami</a><strong> Amazfit Verge</strong> smartwatch which comes at a really competitive price tag. The watch has essential features such as all day heart rate monitoring, abnormal heart rate notification, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/nfc">NFC</a> with payment support and GPS.</p>

<p>Huami says that the 1.3-inch circular display (43mm diameter) size is made to suit the hands of most of its users. The watch is made out of reinforced plastic and comes with a removable silicone strap. It weighs just about 46 grams. The display is an AMOLED panel with 360 x 360 pixel resolution covered with Gorilla Glass 3 on top with a coating to avoid fingerprint smudges on the screen. As for the other specs, the wearable comes with GPS+GLONASS support along with 11 different sports modes, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0+BLE. Note that the watch is IP68 certified, but you can&#8217;t swim with it. The watch is powered by a dual core 1.2GHz processor with 512MB RAM and 4 GB ROM. Along with the usual sensors, there are additional geomagnetic, and air pressure sensors on board.</p>

<p>The <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/amazfit">Amazfit</a> Verge&#8217;s biggest selling point is its all day heart rate monitoring feature. The company reveals that the watch comes with a high precision optical sensor with 98% accuracy and up to 80% reduced power consumption. The watch can detect and inform the user about abnormal heart rate patterns too.</p>

<p>Huami claims that the Amazfit Verge will last for 5 days on a single charge under normal usage. But if you are going to keep your phone connected (WeChat and other app notifications supported) as well as use its sports mode on a daily basis, expect the battery life to drop to some extent.</p>
<p>The Verge is priced at 799 Yuan ($116) and goes on sale on September 17 (today) via JingDong and Tmall in Sky Gray color.</p>
