The popular laptop and PC components manufacturer MSI has launched the fifth generation of its MAG META S PC called the MAG META S 5th.

The PC is targeted toward gamers looking for a budget-mid-range gaming machine. It comes with a stylish case that features an RGB strip on the front and has two slits on the front panel, likely for air intake.

The company is only selling this PC with an AMD CPU option as it comes with the Ryzen 5 5600X processor paired with an A520 motherboard. The Ryzen 5000 series chipset means that the PC will offer support for DDR4 RAM, rather than the latest DDR5 RAM supported on the Ryzen 7000 series.

Handling the graphics department will be an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super GPU that offers 6 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, has 1,408 shader units, a 92-bit memory bus at 14 Gbps, and a TDP rating of 125W. The config will run most modern games on high framerates with the resolution set to 1080p. E-sports titles like CS: GO, Valorent, and Rainbow 6 Siege will be able to deliver excellent performance since this processor is actually a bit of an overkill for this GPU, and thus does not create a bottleneck.

Additionally, MSI includes one M.2 2280 slot, as well as 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drive bays. Moreover, the machine offers multiple ports including three Audio jacks, one DVI-D output, one HDMI 1.4, two PS/2, an RJ45 port, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, and four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. The machine has an adequate 500W power supply and relies on air cooling for thermal management.

Earlier this year, Acer launched the Acer Aspire 3 laptops equipped with Intel’s 11th gen CPUs in India. Now, the brand has launched a new Acer Aspire 7 laptop with Intel’s Alder Lake and AMD Ryzen 5000 series chipsets in the country. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the spec sheet.

Acer Aspire 7 Gaming Laptop (2022)

Starting with the display, the laptop comes with a 15.6-inch IPS panel with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 and slim bezels. The laptop is offered in two different SKUs featuring different CPUs. The Intel variant comes with Core i5-1240P processor, while the AMD model comes with Ryzen 5-5500U CPU. Both the variants feature NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU with 4 GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM.

The chipset is paired with 8 GB of DDR4 memory which can be upgraded up to 32 GB using two soDIMM modules. For storage, the laptop comes with a 512 GB PCIe Gen3 SSD. As for the cooling solution, the Aspire 7 features a keyboard that lets air in for improved airflow. Other than that, the laptop features two heat pipes, two of which are dedicated for the CPU while the third is for the GPU.

For connectivity, the laptop features Wi-Fi 6, 6E, 802.11a/b/g/n+ax wireless LAN, Bluetooth v5.2.As for ports, the laptop offers three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a USB Type-C port, a Thunderbolt-4, and a USB 3.2 Gen 2, Display Port over USB-C. Last but not the least, the laptop has a 50 Wh battery that comes with a 3-pin 135 W AC adapter.

AMD Launches New Ryzen 5000C Processors, Biggest Upgrade Yet For Chromebooks

Chromebooks have mostly been sidelined in the laptop market as a third choice if you couldn’t get yourself a Windows and macOS laptop. However, with Google adding Android app support to Chromebooks, and with popular PC gaming storefront, Steam coming to Chrome OS, Chromebooks could soon be a fierce competitor in the laptop market.

To add fuel to the rise of Chromebooks, AMD themselves are looking to expand their market share in the Chromebook market share as well, because the company today has just announced its new Ryzen 5000C series of processors, designed specifically for Chromebooks.

The Ryzen 5000C processors are based on AMD’s popular Zen 3 core architecture which run on the x86 platform. The processors are quite power-efficient as they are built on a 7nm process and run at a low 15W. The Ryzen 5000C also feature upgraded connectivity as well, as all Ryzen 5000C are equipped with WiFi 6E support and support for faster charging.

Going from top to bottom, the highlight here is the Ryzen 7 5825C, where AMD claims that the Ryzen 7 CPU is the world’s first 8-core high-performance x86 processor for Chromebooks. Compared to its predecessor the Ryzen 7 3700C, the Ryzen 7 5825C offers performance of up to 107% higher in multitasking(Geekbench 5), and up to 85% higher in graphics in Motion Mark 1.2.

However, performance is not the only highlight of the Ryzen 5000C as Ryzen processors are also known for their industry-leading power efficiency. In benchmarks, AMD claims that the 15W Ryzen 5 5625C can offer up to 94%(almost double) the battery life performance of its nearest competitor, the 28W Intel Core i5-1135G7.

In turn, with the improved efficiency engineering, AMD’s Ryzen 5000C processors have also managed to implement the instant “wake from sleep” feature into Chromebooks, like what you would see on Apple’s M1 Macbooks where you can raise and wake the laptop instantaneously.

If you are looking forward to getting yourself a Ryzen 5000C Chromebook, AMD has announced that the company has collaborated with its partners, HP and Acer to bring these notebooks to market by Q2 and Q3 of 2022.

HP Elite C645 G2 Chromebook

The first Chromebook coming to market is the HP Elite C645 G2 Chromebook. The HP Elite C645 G2 can be configured with an up to Ryzen 7 5825C processor, up to 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of PCIe SSD storage. The device features 14-inch 1080p screen with touchscreen support, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and optional LTE support for those business users who are always on the go.

Speaking of business users, the HP Elite C645 will also have a 5 MP integrated webcam, a SmartCard terminal for a CAD-capable keyboard, and an SEC fingerprint sensor for added security, to keep your confidentials safe at all times. The device will be available for sale from June onwards starting from only 559 USD.

Acer Chromebook Spin 514

Meanwhile, Acer will be introducing its latest Chromebook Spin 514, the 2-in-1 convertible Chromebook with a 14-inch touchscreen. The device can be configured with an up to Ryzen 7 5825C processor and supports up to 256 GB of PCIe Gen 3 storage.

Connectivity-wise, the convertible has support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Durability-wise, the touchscreen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass and supports 100% of the sRGB colour gamut. And the device is rated MIL-STD 810 for military-grade durability against drops, dust and shock protection.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 will be available from Q3 2022 onwards starting from only 579.99 USD for the consumer variant and 899.99 USD for the enterprise variant.

AMD Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 Gen 7 Release: The Affordable AMD 2-in-1 Laptops Refreshed for 2022

After releasing the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i Gen 7, Lenovo has also decided to release the IdeaPad Flex 5 Gen 7 AMD variant this month as well.

Similarly to its Flex 5i sibling, the Flex 5 AMD also comes in two screen sizes for buyers to choose from: a 14-inch display and a 16-inch display. Both screen sizes have the more refined 16:10 aspect ratio that is common to all the 2022 laptop releases we’ve seen so far.

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5

The main difference here is the processors under the hood, whereas the Flex 5i opts for Intel’s 12th Gen Alder processors, the 2022 refresh of the IdeaPad Flex 5 Gen 7 AMD variant opts for the AMD Ryzen 3 5300U, Ryzen 5 5500U and Ryzen 7 5700U CPUs instead.

However, these Ryzen 5000 CPUs are the same that we have seen on the IdeaPad Flex 5 Gen 5 AMD variant last year, which is quite odd considering AMD launched its Ryzen 6000 Mobile series for 2022 back in January. It may be due to the ongoing chip shortage which influenced Lenovo into wanting to cut manufacturing costs by using last year’s processors and as the newer processors are probably costlier and may increase the lineup’s price tag by a significant margin.

The biggest upgrade from Gen 5 to Gen 7 is the screen. The IdeaPad Flex 5 AMD Gen 7 now features a 16:10 IPS Touchscreen LCD, compared to the 16:9 dimly lit TN Panel on last year’s Gen 5. The screen comes in several resolution and brightness options which are as follows:

The device is configurable with up to 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 1TB of PCIe SSD storage. Lenovo claims the IdeaPad Flex 5 AMD Gen 7 can deliver up to 12 hours of video playback under a full charge.

Ports and connectivity wise, the IdeaPad Flex 5 AMD Gen 7 is equipped with 1 USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, 2 USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one HDMI 1.4b port, a 4-in-1 SD card reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi 6 support and Bluetooth 5.1 support.

The landing pages of the 14-inch and 16-inch Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 AMD Gen 7 have gone live. The laptops are expected to go on sale in Q2 2022 in selected markets in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania.

AMD Ryzen 5000 series SoCs possibly delayed to next year

AMD may have delayed the plan of releasing the Ryzen 5000 series earlier slated for November 2021. There are rumors from a renowned leaker who claims that the release of AMD’s Zen3 Threadripper CPU for consumer desktops has been delayed out of 2021.

The leaked information mentions “Chagall” being delayed to next year which is nothing but a codename attached to AMD’s 5000 series Threadripper processors. Here’s the tweet that talks about it.

Some of Gigabyte‘s information was leaked when a ransomware gang hit the manufacturer. The leaks included information about future hardware, the highlight of which was the Threadripper 5990X SoC. And according to that, it is supposed to have 64 cores and 128 threads along with 256 MB of L3 cache, 64 PCIe 4.0 lanes, and 4-channel DDR-3200 memory. These cores are similar to the ones found on Threadripper 3990X and at the same time, don’t mention anything about 5000 series Threadrippers’ clock speeds.

We also got to learn about two Pro-model 5000 Threadrippers from AMD which were listed as a Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX and a Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5945WX. The former was a 64-core, 128-thread processor, while the latter had 12 cores and 24 threads. These are workstation models and are likely to launch in 2022.

AMD announces the Ryzen 5000G series, its first CPUs with built-in graphics

AMD has launched the Ryzen 5000G series CPUs, packed with sufficient processing power to make playing current-generation PC games a great experience. The 5000G series, a follow-up to the Ryzen 4000G series, offers some exciting graphic quality and a higher processor capacity.

The Ryzen 5000G series CPUs combine Zen 3 processing capabilities with Vega 8 integrated graphics to produce a fairly above-average GPU performance. The added advantage is that there will be no need to buy a video card for optimal gaming performance.

The base products are the Ryzen 3 5300G, with a 4GHz base clock at 65W TDP, and the 5300GE, with a 3.6GHz base clock at low-power 35W TDP. These may apply to a segment of the market, but the current lineup pick would undoubtedly be the high-end models. These are the Ryzen 5600GE, with a 3.4GHz base clock, the 5600G having a 3.9GHz clock, the 5700GE, and the 3.8GHz 5700G. These models are very appealing and are capable of displaying standard 3D games. However, the current AMD lineup is still a bit lower in terms of capacity than the premium offerings in the segment.

AMD claims that the Ryzen 5700G can be up to 80% faster than Intel’s Core i7-10700 in several areas, including creativity, productivity, and app performance. AMD also says that the models are capable of frame rates above 30FPS, generally better than what obtains on Intel Core i7, for several popular games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Metro Exodus, and Civilization VI. Although AMD’s claims may not provide the complete picture, it is worth considering the series if the interest is gaming-oriented.

AMD announces Ryzen 5000 processors based on 7nm Zen 3 architecture

AMD has been gaining momentum in the market and in a bid to capture more market share, the company has announced its new Ryzen 5000 mobile CPUs during its keynote at the virtual CES 2021.

While making the announcement, Lisa Su, CEO of AMD claimed it to be the “most powerful PC processors ever built.” Some models of the new chipset are based on 7nm “Zen 3” architecture while some are based on the older Zen 2.

The company has divided the processors into two categories — H-series which is aimed at gaming and content creation, and U-series which is aimed at ultrabooks. The H-series models are based on Zen 3 architecture while the U-series have Zen 2 architecture.

Both the categories have four chipsets — Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, and Ryzen 9. The high-end offering in the H-series is the AMD Ryzen 9 5980HS that has eight cores and 16 threads, offering a 3.0GHz clock speed that can be boosted up to 4.8GHz.

The company has also introduced new HX chips in the lineup, aimed at “serious gamers.” The Ryzen 9 5900HX has 45W+ TDP and will power 2021’s best gaming notebooks but has not revealed more information about the upcoming hardware.

The top-end offering in the U-series is the Ryzen 7 5800U, an eight-core, 16-thread CPU with a 1.9GHz clock speed that can be boosted up to 4.4GHz. It is claimed by the company to deliver up to 17.5 hours of general-usage battery life and 21 hours of movie playback.

AMD’s CEO Lisa Su says that the company is expected over 150 Ryzen 5000 series laptops to get launched in the market this year. The first devices powered by these new chipsets are expected to be available for purchase from next month.
