Google’s Beta updates allow users to try out new features and improvements before they are officially released to the public. The Beta program is open to anyone with a compatible Pixel device, and users can sign up for the program through Google’s website. However, since Beta releases are pre-release versions, they may contain bugs or other issues that can affect device performance. It is recommended that users back up their devices before installing Beta updates and use them at their own risk. Google typically releases several Beta versions leading up to the official release of a new Android version. As of late, the company is gearing up for the official launch of Android 14 later this year. The tech giant released the latest Android 13 QPR3 Beta 2 Update, which is currently rolling out to Pixel Devices.

Google Pixel 7 Pro

Previously, Google had hinted that they won’t be publicly testing QPR3, but will instead go straight from Android 13 QPR2 Beta to Android 14 Beta. The latest release of Android 13 QPR3 Beta 2 is available for a variety of Pixel devices – namely Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro. The latest update includes enhanced privacy features, such as a more discreet PIN entry system that prevents the numbers on the PIN pad from lighting up, protecting your PIN from anyone who might be trying to peek at the same. For this feature, users can go to their screen lock settings and enable “Enhanced PIN Privacy” which will disable animations while entering the device PIN. Furthermore, users can also choose if they would like recommendations in “home search” based on their search history or not.

The new update is also bundled with several bug fixes. Issues like the volume panel flickering or the notification bar closing too quickly have been addressed, making for a smoother and more seamless user experience. So, whether you’re rocking a Pixel 7 Pro or a Pixel 4a, there’s something for everyone in the latest patch. Users of Pixel devices can download the Factory Image or OTA (over-the-air) updates for their respective devices.

This latest beta version offers bug fixes, additional features, and performance optimizations, and will continue until Android 14 Beta kicks off. Participants in QPR3 Beta will automatically receive an OTA update to Android 14 Beta 1 when it becomes available, with no separate program opt-in required.

This new release comes in at 258MB and includes fixes for various issues, such as incorrect clock text color on the lock screen, Bluetooth audio problems, fingerprint icon display issues, and live wallpapers that couldn’t be selected or used. Additionally, widgets, app icon positions, and other configurable options on the home screen are no longer reset after installing an OTA update, and Face Unlock remains enrolled after updating.

The following issues have been resolved in Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1:

Fixed an issue where the clock text on the lock screen was the wrong color.

Fixed an issue where Bluetooth audio wasn’t working on some devices.

Fixed an issue where the fingerprint icon that is normally displayed on screen to indicate the position of the fingerprint sensor erroneously changed to an exclamation point (!).

Fixed an issue where live wallpapers could not be selected or used.

Fixed an issue where widgets, app icon positions, and other configurable options on the home screen were reset after installing an OTA update.

Fixed an issue that caused a device to be unenrolled from Face Unlock after installing an OTA update.

However, Google has acknowledged that there are still some issues with the latest build, including potential camera blackouts when activated using the double press on the power button, unresponsiveness in the Recent apps list when the screen orientation is changed, and device reboots when activating or deactivating work profiles.

To try out the new beta, users need to enroll in the Android Beta Program and ensure that they are using a compatible Pixel device, such as the Pixel 4a, Pixel 5 and 5a, and Pixel 6 and 7 series. The latest beta update can then be downloaded through an OTA update or installed manually.

Overall, the Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 release is a promising update that provides fixes and enhancements to the Google Pixel user experience. While there are still some known issues, Google’s commitment to improving the latest beta build is reassuring, and users can expect further improvements in future updates.

Pixel fans are always Google has announced that it will launch the beta program for the June Feature Drop on March 13th, 2023. Pixel users who are on the QPR2 Beta will automatically receive Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 next week if they don’t exit the program by March 13th. However, the big news is that Google is changing the way to exit the Beta program without wiping the phone.

Previously, if users were going to exit the Android 13 QPR2 Beta program, they had to install the stable version of QPR2 before opting out of the Beta program. But now, if they want the stable version of QPR2, they will need to exit the Beta program first. To do this, before March 13th, users will need to go to www.google.com/android/beta and click on the rectangle that says “View your eligible devices.” They will then be taken to an image of their Pixel device with the words “Opt out” underneath. Once they tap on the button, that’s pretty much it. As long as users ignore all the other downgrade buttons, opting out will not force them to wipe their phones. However, users will still have to wait for the stable version of the QPR2 update (the March Feature Drop) to be released later this month.

If users refuse to opt out, they won’t receive the stable version of QPR2. If they can’t wait to return to the latest public version, they can simply tap on “downgrade OTA update,” but be warned that doing this will force users to wipe their phones. If they do nothing, users will receive the QPR3 Beta 1 update on Monday and they will be forced to stick with the Beta program until June 5th when the June Feature Drop should be released by Google, unless users want to wipe their phones clean. This is a significant change, and Google wants to make sure that users don’t accidentally wipe their data, so they are taking all the steps to cover their bases.

Android 13 QPR2 Beta is preparing to offer users the ability to change the lockscreen shortcuts on Pixel phones. Currently, Pixel phones offer two lockscreen shortcuts that are locked to Google Wallet and Home. However, with Android 13 QPR2, it looks like users will soon be able to select other functionality for these shortcuts.

So, here's a fun one. Nothing OS 1.5.1 (Android 13 Beta 2) contains various fun features… Including the ability to customize the lockscreen shortcuts!

Google started working on it in their latest beta (QPR2). But Nothing implemented it themselves pic.twitter.com/yWj4G0jDiw
— Dylan Roussel (@evowizz) January 13, 2023

According to a recent code review, in addition to Home and Wallet, users will be able to choose from the flashlight, camera, and QR code scanner as lockscreen shortcuts. This is a welcome change as it allows for more customization and convenience for the user.

Furthermore, Google is also introducing a new feature that requires users to “Press and hold to activate” the shortcuts, as opposed to the current simple tap. This is especially necessary for the flashlight and camera shortcuts to prevent accidental, in-pocket activations.

Lastly, there is also a sneak peek at what the Pixel UI change to the lockscreen “Shortcuts” might look like. It is modeled after the existing Wallpaper & style interface and although it doesn’t work yet, it gives users an idea of what to expect in the future.

All in all, the Android 13 QPR2 Beta update is shaping up to bring useful and much-needed changes to Pixel phone users. The ability to change lockscreen shortcuts, new activation method and a new UI design for shortcuts all add up to a more personalized and convenient experience for users.

Recently, Realme commenced the Android 13-based Realme UI 3.0 early access program for the GT Neo 3T smartphone. Now, the other two devices in the series, namely the Realme GT Neo 3 and the GT Neo 3 150W have moved on to the open beta phase of Realme UI 3.0, indicating that they will soon be receiving the stable Android 13 update.

Users must sign up for the program if they want to experience the open beta update. Before installing the new update, users must adhere to a few criteria. The Realme GT Neo 3 and GT Neo 3 150W users must first update their smartphones to the necessary versions, RMX3561 11.A.15, RMX3561 11.A.16; RMX3563 11.A.15, RMX3563 11.A.16.

Once you are on the required version, you can proceed with the open beta update installation by navigating to Settings>Software Update>Tap the drop-down on the top right corner>Tap on Trial Version>Fill out the form and hit Apply Now.

If and when your application is accepted, a notification for the new beta update will be sent to you. Being a beta program, it is important to keep in mind that the update may contain bugs or that some apps may not function as intended. We, therefore, suggest our readers refrain from updating their primary phones with the beta version.

It is also advised to back up the data on your device before the update as updating to the Android 13 beta version and then rolling back to Android 12 will erase all the data on the smartphone.

Google has been on a roll with the number of software updates it has been pumping out, especially in the beta program. Now, the company has just started rolling out the new Android 13 QPR1 beta 3 updates, which is being rolled for models starting from the latest Pixel 7 series, all the way down to the Pixel 4a.

For those unaware, the Search Engine giant had recently launched the QPR1 beta 2, which is basically the beta version of the upcoming December Pixel Quarterly Feature Drop that might be released on December 5. So, the third beta wasn’t expected to release till next month. However, the company started rolling out the QPR1 beta 3 update for the Pixel 4a and any other model launched after it. So, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have also received the new beta upgrade. To get this update, go to Settings > System > System update and follow the instructions. The latest build is version T1B3.221003.003 and is around 130MB in size.

As of right now, Google has yet to release a list of new features that are a part of the update. Although, it did offer a list of all the bugs that have been dealt with in the Android 13 QPR1 Beta 3 (Via PhoneArena). Soon after its official release, the company also rolled out the first OTA update for the new smartphone. Now, the Pixel 6a is also a part of the Android 13 Beta program.

As of right now, the Android 13 Beta 4.1 build is the latest version of the next gen Android operating system. The Search Engine giant has yet to release the stable build of the new Android version, although, it typically releases new Android OS in August. In other words, the new Android 13 Beta version will be the first and only Beta build that the Pixel 6a receives before directly upgrading to Android 13 OS.

Keep in mind that this is still just speculation at the moment and Google’s plans are still unclear. For those interested in trying out the Android 13 Beta on the Pixel 6a, you can visit the Android Beta webpage. Once you get there, check for eligible devices and if you have a Pixel 6a registered, simply opting in would make sure that you receive the new OTA update in just a few minutes. The Pixel 6a is expected to receive another OTA update that brings an August security patch soon.

The company has gotten so good at updates that it even embarrasses Google now. Samsung recently rolled out the One UI 4.1 version on almost all the major Galaxy devices. Now, it seems the company is gearing up to release the beta version of Android 13-based One UI 5.0 to the flagship Galaxy S22 Series.

Samsung appears to have begun the development of the Android 13 beta version for Galaxy S22 series smartphones as the latest build has been spotted for the Galaxy S22 in South Korea (Via TizenHelp). The spotted beta firmware is labeled as S906NKSU2ZVF6.

Looking at the recent developments, it will not be surprising if Samsung starts the beta testing program next month in July. The Galaxy S22 series which includes Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra will be among the first devices to get the taster of the new beta build. However, more flagship smartphones will eventually join the party.

Samsung recently made some firmware policy changes which will enable the Galaxy S22 users in Europe countries to get their hands on the beta firmware soon.

Android 13 release date is still not announced yet as the OS is still under development. However, Google has shared a schedule that suggests we can expect a stable release sometime in August 2022. Google is yet to release the third beta version of Android 13.

Just like the past few years, the search giant has partnered with multiple OEMs to enable developers to try out the upcoming version of Android.

Just like last year with the Android 12 Beta initiative, a total of 12 OEMs are part of the Android 13 Beta program. The only difference is that TCL has been replaced with Lenovo this time around.

Though most companies offer Android 13 Beta for a single device, there are some who provide builds for multiple products. Hence, the total number of eligible devices is actually 22, which happens to be 10 more than the OEMs involved.

Unsurprisingly, Google is the one with the most number of products, 8 Pixels smartphones to be precise. It is followed by Xiaomi with 3 devices comprising two smartphones and a tablet. Oppo is also offering builds for a smartphone and a foldable. Whereas, the remaining brands are limited to a single product.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at all the smartphones and tablets on which you can try Android 13.

Testing this update is quite difficult, unlike the Android 13 Beta 1 updates, which can be easily installed on any latest Pixel phone. To test and validate your app for the Google TV experience, you need to install the system image for the ADT-3 Developer Kit. You can alternatively use the Android Emulator for TV.

Google has found the following problems, which do not provide the most stable experience. Review them to know what to expect:

When Bluetooth headphones are connected, AV playback on some apps does not work.

In some cases when trying to pair Bluetooth devices, pressing the side button on the ADT-3 device does not activate a Bluetooth device search. If remote pairing is lost, you can work around this by using ADB commands to simulate remote input. Alternatively, you can reflash the unit.

Remote control buttons can’t be reconfigured using the Remote & Accessories menu.

The option to change HDMI-CEC control is currently missing from the Remote & Accessories menu.

When casting to 4k TVs, only the top left quarter of the image is shown.

In some cases when the ADT-3 device is connected to an LG TV, the remote control does not work.

When using the Google Play Movies app, 4K playback is corrupted by a gray screen and noise.

For iOS devices, the Google Home app fails to connect to the ADT-3 device. To work around this issue, use the Google Home app on an Android device or the ADT-3 remote control.

If you are one of the lucky ones with an ADT-3 dev box, head over here to see what this new update has to offer.

Please note that once you successfully flash the ADT-3 to Android 13, you will not be able to return to the previous Android 12 build without wiping all the user data.
