Motorola Edge 20 Fusion finally gets Android 13 update

Motorola has finally released the Android 13 update for its Edge 20 Fusion smartphone, a move that arrives significantly later than many competitors. The update, weighing in at 1.64GB, brings features like app customization, a revamped media player, and granular notification controls.

Motorola Android 13 update: What’s new

After upgrading, you’ll notice several improvements to the Android operating system and apps. Personalization options have expanded, allowing you to customize your phone further. You can now style app icons to match your wallpaper, accessible by touching and holding a blank space on your home screen and selecting “Personalize.”

The Moto Widget on your home screen has been updated, with the new expandable Adapt version allowing you to add and view more information. To revert to the old version or choose a different one, drag the current widget to the top of the screen and drop it on “Remove.” Then, touch and hold the home screen, go to “Widgets,” select “Moto Widget,” and drag the version you want to your home screen.

Settings changes include the ability to set supported apps to use a language different from your phone’s default. You also have more control over notifications and privacy, with options to adjust notification permissions and limit photo and video sharing on a per-app basis.

The Gestures menu has moved to Settings > Gestures, from its previous location under Settings > System > Gestures, allowing you to turn gestures on or off easily. These updates provide enhanced control and customization options.

While this update is welcome news for Edge 20 Fusion users, it highlights Motorola’s slow pace of software updates. Other manufacturers are already testing Android 15 betas, making Motorola’s approach appear sluggish. All that said, this update is likely the last the Edge 20 Fusion will receive since it launched back in 2021 with Android 11 onboard.

Xiaomi HyperOS for older phones comes with Android 13

Xiaomi has been rolling out HyperOS to eligible devices since the last few months. The update is being seeded out to eligible products worldwide.

Up until now, only newer models had been receiving the update. Now, as the company has started beta testing the software for older products, an interesting detail has emerged.

Apparently, Xiaomi is not done with its old way of doing things.

HyperOS arrives in multiple Android flavours like MIUI

When Xiaomi unveiled HyperOS, we expected it to be a fresh chapter in the company’s software journey. But unfortunately, it is not the case.

Though the new software is built ground up focusing on interconnectivity and optimizations, it is MIUI through and through, which is not a bad thing. But what’s bizarre is retaining an archaic feature.

Xiaomi used to maintain MIUI based on multiple Android versions. We anticipated the end of this trend with the release of HyperOS. However, the company is continuing it.

Recently, HyperOS builds for three older Xiaomi devices went live on the company’s server. These phones are Redmi K40, Xiaomi 12X, and Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G.

The software builds for these handsets are based on older Android 13 instead of Android 14. Thus, the aforementioned products miss out on their third Android update but do get the latest HyperOS.

Xiaomi never promised three Android updates for either of these devices. Thus, we cannot blame the company for its action.

However, we cannot stop criticizing either, given the competitors have upped their software game. Anyways, we are glad to know that the users of these older smartphones will get to experience HyperOS.

Additionally, it is worth noting that the Redmi K40 also goes by Poco F3 and Mi 11X. Similarly, Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G is a rebadged Redmi Note 10 Pro (Max). Therefore, these three handsets should also get the HyperOS update.

Nothing Phone (1) to get Nothing OS 2.0 update next week

Nothing released its second smartphone, the Phone (2), last month. It came with Nothing OS 2.0, the second version of Nothing’s Android customization skin. Earlier this month, the company’s founder, Carl Pei, confirmed that the Nothing OS 2.0 update for the Phone (1) would be released by the end of August.

As promised, Nothing’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle shared that the update will start rolling out to Phone (1) handsets next week. However, the company has yet to share a specific date for the release of Nothing OS 2.0 for the Phone (1), so we can expect the update to be rolled out gradually over the next week.

Nothing OS 2.0 update for Phone 1

While Nothing’s announcement on X did not reveal any details about the new software, we know that Nothing OS 2.0 is based on Android 13. Some of the notable features of Nothing OS 2.0 include monochrome app icons, new widgets, lock screen customizations, the ability to lock individual apps and clone app support.

More importantly, Nothing is sticking to its promise of offering a clean user interface. There is no bloatware installed, and you still get the classic dot-matrix font throughout the UI.

The update is in line with Nothing’s promise to provide the Phone (1) with three years of major Android updates and four years of security updates. This means that the Phone (1) is now due to receive Android 14 and Android 15 updates, and then security patches for an additional year.

Android 14 is expected to be released soon, and Nothing is also running the Android 14 beta program, so you can try out Android 14 on your Nothing Phone by downloading the latest beta. However, it’s important to remember that beta versions are pre-release software, so they may not be stable and could contain bugs.

Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G receives Android 13 update

In April, Xiaomi unveiled Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G for select international markets. This device is an upgraded version of the Redmi Note 10 Pro from two years ago.

It was released with Android 11 but with MIUI 13 onboard. However, the handset was soon upgraded to Android 12-based MIUI 14.

Now, it has started receiving Android 13 as well. In other words, in less than 4 months on the market, Xiaomi has delivered 2 Android updates for the phone by debuting it with an outdated version of Android.

As per Xiaomiui, the Android 13 update for Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G is currently limited to Mi Pilot testers. But it should be available for all users in the coming days.

Apart from bringing a new version of Android, the system update also bumps up the security patch level to July 2023. Other than these two changes, the official changelog does not mention anything else.

Users of the smartphone can periodically head over to Settings to check whether their unit has received the fresh software update.

For the unaware, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G is based on the Redmi Note 10 Pro. It comes with a different design and a couple of upgrades.

The newer model arrives with a faster 67W charging support instead of 33W and a Dolby Vision-enabled display. However, at the same time, its battery capacity is slightly lower at 5,000mAh compared to a 5,020mAH battery inside the older handset.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra finally gets Android 13 update

Back in September 2022, Motorola launched the Edge 30 Ultra smartphone with a 200MP primary camera, a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and Android 12 onboard. After much wait, the smartphone is finally receiving the anticipated Android 13 update.

The update weighs 1.57GB and comes with version number T1SQ33.15-11-137-8. The new update brings enhancements for the battery, themed app icons, new media controls, a Photo Picker tool, and advanced notification permissions. The Moto Widget on the home screen has also been updated and now lets you add and view more information.

However, if its not to your liking, you can go back to the previous version using the following steps:

Drag the current widget to the top of the screen and drop it on Remove.
Touch & hold the home screen, then touch Widgets > Moto Widget.
Drag the version you want to your home screen.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra

The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra features a 6.73-inch punch-hole OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. It has a 200MP primary camera sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 12MP telephoto lens on the back, along with a 60MP selfie camera on the front. ASUS Zenfone 10 spotted on Wi-Fi Alliance with Android 13 OS

ASUS is gearing up to launch its latest entry in the Zenfone series of flagship smartphones. The new device in question is the Zenfone 10 that is set to be unveiled at the end of this month. But prior to its release, the high end device was spotted on the Wi-Fi Alliance.

For those unaware, the Taiwanese tech giant’s Zenfone 10 is set to be announced for the global market on June 29. However, just ahead of its release, it was spotted on the Wi-Fi Alliance carrying the model number ASUS_AI2302. This certification confirms that the upcoming handset will have support 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz Wi-Fi frequency band support. Apart from this, the listing also reveals that the Zenfone 10 will run on Android 13 operation system out of the box.

Unfortunately, this was all the information revealed on this platform. But based on our previous reports, the device will sport a 5.9 inch AMOLED display that offers 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. OnePlus Nord 2 Receives Android 13 based OxygenOS 13 Stable Update in India

OnePlus has recently released the Android 13 Stable update for its OnePlus Nord 2 smartphone in India. This latest update follows the announcement of the OnePlus Nord 2 OxygenOS 13 Open Beta program that was revealed in March earlier this year. LG Delivers Promised Android 13 Update to LG Wing Smartphone

The LG Wing is a unique smartphone that was released in 2020, known for its distinctive design featuring a swiveling display. It was first released in South Korea, and was the first device in LG’s newly announced Explorer Project series. It is also the last smartphone that LG produced, making this update a significant milestone for the Wing phone. The device boasts a 6.8-inch P-OLED primary screen that can rotate 90 degrees, revealing a smaller 3.9-inch secondary screen underneath. The LG Wing is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset and comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The Redmi K50i was released last year in India for those interested in performance-focused smartphones at an affordable price. The device debuted with MIUI 13 based on Android 12 in July.

In less than a year after its release, the phone has started receiving its first major software update. This system update bumps up both MIUI and Android versions.

Xiaomi has begun to roll out MIUI 14 update for Redmi K50i in India. The update brings along Android 13 and March 2023 security patches.

The OTA software update bears build number V14.0.2.0.TLOINXM. It is currently limited to ‘Mi Pilots’.

The update should make its way to a select few regular users as part of the ‘Stable Beta’ rollout in the coming days. Later, it will be available for every user.

For the unaware, Redmi K50 is a rebranded Redmi Note 11T Pro. The original handset go this update back in December itself.

Google Rolls Out Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 to Pixel Devices

In early December, Xiaomi confirmed that it will deliver MIUI 14 update for the Mi 10 series. A few days later, the company also revealed that the update will be based on Android 13 for the vanilla and the pro model.

Two months later in February, a Chinese certification agency revealed that even the Mi 10 Lite will be blessed with the MIUI 14 update. A month after that, a Xiaomi exec now officially updates us on the status of the system update for these handsets.

Oppo is now rolling out the Android 13-based ColorOS 13 update for much older and less expensive smartphones worldwide. The Oppo A55 5G and Oppo A55s 5G are the latest such devices to get access to the new software.

Currently, the update is available in the beta form for these handsets. Also, it is limited to China.

Users of Oppo A55 5G and A55s 5G in China can head over to Settings to enroll themselves for the ColorOS 13 beta program. Selected applicants will receive the beta build via OTA.

Usually, Oppo takes about a month or more to deliver the stable build. Therefore, the final release for the general public should happen around April.

Both these phones were released with ColorOS 11 based on Android 11 though the s variant debuted more than a year after the regular model. Thus, ColorOS 13 is their second major software update as they got the Android 12-based ColorOS 12 update last year.

Since A55 and A55s are inexpensive smartphones, they will not receive any major software updates. However, they may continue receiving necessary security updates and bug fixes for a while.

The key spec highlights of these devices include a 6.5-inch HD+ display, a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, a 13MP rear camera, an 8MP front-facing camera, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 5,000mAh battery, and 10W charging support.

Xiaomi has slowly started to release Android 13-based MIUI 14 updates to its eligible smartphones. The brand will initially update the newly launched flagship phones and then shift its focus to the aging ones. You can now install the Android 13-based stable Topaz build of the ROM on a handful of Redmi and Poco Smartphones.

For the unaware, Paranoid Android belongs to the dying breed of AOSP-based custom ROMs that are based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Realme 10 4G Android 13 Open Beta Testing Program Kicks off

Realme launched a 4G smartphone in its latest number series called the Realme 10 4G. The device made its global debut in November and came to Indian markets in January. The specs and features made sense for the price range, however, the operating system out of the box is Android 12. The brand will soon be updating it to Android 13 as the Open Beta testing of Realme UI 4.0 for the device has commenced.

The update comes with many changes including the Aquamorphic UI design inspired by Oppo and other new features. Users of the Realme 10 4G interested in trying out the Android 13 build before its released to the public can apply by navigating to Settings → Software Update → Tap on the settings icon in the top right corner → Trial Version → Apply Now → Submit your details and finish the quiz.

You’ll need to make sure that your device is on the required UI version RMX3630_11.A.23 / RMX3630_11.A.27. If selected, you will get the new Realme UI update soon. Before installing the update, make sure that your device has at least 60% update. It’s crucial to acknowledge that the recently released beta update may contain bugs and underlying problems. Thus, it’s recommended to refrain from installing it on your primary mobile phone. However, if you still decide to proceed with the update, it’s highly advisable to back up your device’s data before initiating the installation of the new software.

The company has already started accepting applications in batches from February 21. Oppo Pad Air Gets ColorOS 13 Stable Update Based on Android 13

The Oppo Pad Air is the brand’s second tablet. Unlike the original Oppo Pad, it is a budget model.

The device debuted with ColorOS 12 based on Android 12. It got access to the Android 13-based ColorOS 13 beta in early December.

Now, more than two months later, the tablet finally gets the ColorOS 13 stable update.

The Android 13 stable update for the Oppo Pad Air is currently live in China. It is only available for a select few users as part of the batched rollout.

It should reach all users in the coming days in the brand’s home country. Unfortunately, we don’t have any info on global rollout since the device is not even listed in the Q1 2023 rollout plan. Therefore, the beta release outside mainland China may begin in April at the earliest.

Officially, Oppo hasn’t revealed the software update policy for the Oppo Pad Air. But we believe that the tablet will likely receive at least one more Android update.

The Oppo Pad Air is an inexpensive Android tablet powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset. It is built around a 10.36-inch display (LCD) with a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels, 10-bit color depth, and stylus input support.

The product comes with an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, quad speakers, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, a 7,100mAh battery, and 18W wired charging support.

Xiaomi Pad 5 Bags MIUI 14 Update Based on Android 13

Xiaomi unveiled MIUI 14 at the Xiaomi 13 series launch event in China in December. Since then, the company has been rolling out the latest software for its devices worldwide.

However, the rollout has been limited to smartphones for now. Thankfully, that’s changing now as the company has started pushing the tablet version of the software (MIUI 14 Pad).

Xiaomi had earlier revealed that the stable version of MIUI 14 Pad will reach all eligible tablets in April 2023. Therefore, the company has begun to roll out the update now itself.

Currently, the fresh software is only available for the vanilla Xiaomi Pad 5 in China. The update arrives with build number V14.0.4.0.TKXCNXM and it is based on Android 13.

In other words, the device is now receiving its second MIUI as well as second Android update. Since the company hasn’t disclosed anything about the product’s software policy, we are not sure if it will receive any major software updates hereafter.

Anyway, as of now, the update is limited to ‘Pilot Testers’. The general public will initially get access to the update as part of the ‘Stable Beta’ rollout, followed by the final ‘Stable’ release later.

Xiaomiui says that the software is also ready for ‘Global’ and ‘EEA’ variants of the Xiaomi Pad 5. These builds are expected to release by March end.

There’s a chance that Xiaomi may start pushing MIUI 14 Pad for the remaining eligible tablets in China in the coming days. We will be updating our readers regarding the same whenever that happens.

Sony Xperia 10 III Finally Receives Android 13 OS Update

Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge Gets MIUI 14 Update in India

MIUI 14 update is now available for two more devices in India. These phones are Xiaomi 11i and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge.

For the unaware, the two smartphones are rebranded versions of the Chinese Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus. They are getting the latest MIUI software after the original models.

The MIUI 14 update for the Xiaomi 11i series in India also brings along Android 13. Thus, the device has now received two MIUI and Android updates each.

The update comes with build number V14.0.1.0.TKTINXM. As per Xiaomiui, it is currently only available for ‘Mi Pilot Testers’.

If this software build doesn’t have major issues, it will be pushed to a limited number of public users as ‘Stable Beta’. Later, it will be rolled out to all users gradually. In other words, the update should reach all units within the next few weeks.

The Xiaomi 11i and the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge debuted with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11. They were updated to MIUI 13 and Android 12 last year.

We are not sure if these two phones will receive any further major software updates. But there’s a chance they will as newer Xiaomi smartphones are eligible for three Android updates. They may at least get access to a third MIUI update.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro is arguably the best value-for-money Redmi Note series smartphone to date. It was released in early 2021 with MIUI 12 based on Android 11.

Now, two years after its debut, the handset has started receiving the MIUI 14 update. The latest software build for the phone brings along Android 13 as well.

As per Xiaomiui, Xiaomi has begun to push MIUI 14 update for the Redmi Note 10 Pro. The update is currently live for the EEA variant of the device with build number V14.0.1.0.TKFEUXM.

Unsurprisingly, the new software build is limited to ‘Pilot Testers’. However, it should be available for every user in the coming days.

The update will enter the ‘Stable Beta’ phase next, followed by the ‘Stable’ channel. At the same time, it will likely reach other regional variants of the device.

Usually, Redmi Notes are eligible for two Android upgrades. Therefore, the Android 13-based MIUI 14 update is likely the last major software update for the Redmi Note 10 Pro since it has already received MIUI 13 based on Android 12 after launch.

Anyway, it should continue receiving security updates for a while. But we are not sure if it will get access to any more Android updates. However, there’s a chance of an MIUI upgrade.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro was one of the best smartphones when it went official. Even today, it can be considered a better alternative to cheap 5G handsets. Unfortunately, its official software support won’t last long.

Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G Receives MIUI 14 Update in India

Back in January, Xiaomi began to roll out MIUI 14 update for the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G. It was initially available for the EEA variant of the smartphone. Now, a month later, the update is live for the Indian version as well.

The latest software update for the handset is based on Android 13. Thus, the device has received two of the three promised Android updates.

According to Xiaomiui, the MIUI 14 update for the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G in India arrives with build number V14.0.3.0.TKOINXM. The system update is being pushed to users via OTA.

Like any other software update, it is being rolled out in batches. Therefore, it is currently limited to a select few users. Anyway, all units shall get access to the update in the coming days.

The Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G was released in the second half of 2021. It debuted with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11. The phone was later updated to Android 12-based MIUI 13 in the first quarter of 2022.

As per Xiaomi’s official update policy, the product will receive one more Android update (Android 14) and security updates until 2025. The next major update will likely roll out in 2024 or late 2023 at the earliest.

The Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G’s hardware is more than enough for the next few years. It offers a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, a 6.55-inch 10-bit FHD+ 90Hz AMOLED display, a 4,250mAh battery, 33W fast wired charging support, and more.

Samsung Galaxy A51 5G Receives Android 13 Update in the US

Samsung is finally rolling out the Android 13 OS update for its Galaxy A51 5G smartphone model in the US. The company is bringing the major upgrade with its One UI 5.0 custom skin. So here are all the details.

The South Korean tech giant’s is bringing the Android 13 OS update, but only to the unlocked versions of the phone in the US market. This is great news to Galaxy A51 5G users since the company brought the update in just two months. Apart from the unlocked versions, Verizon and Xfinity Mobile customers are the only ones that are getting the update, while other carriers should soon bring the update in the arriving weeks as well.

While the update brings the latest version of Android to the smartphone, it doesn’t offer the most recent security patch with this upgrade. At the moment, users of the Galaxy A51 5G on any of the US networks can check if they have received the Android 13 update, which has the firmware version A516U1UEU8FWA4. The new update brings various changes and improvements in the software of the device.

So users can now expect to see changes in design as well as improvements in the user interface. There are also new changes like stacked widgets and a Maintenance Mode.
