After months of leaks, OnePlus 5T was unveiled to the world this Thursday. Many OnePlus fans may have wanted the OP5T to come pre-installed with Android 8.0 Oreo flavored OxygenOS. However, the smartphone will come preloaded with Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. Fresh information suggests that the Android 8.0 Oreo update for OnePlus 5T will be available at the start of next year.

According to OnePlus, the OnePlus 5T and its predecessor phone, the OnePlus 5 have identical software. They feature the same Snapdragon 835 chipset and same amount of RAM. Hence, both the phones are expected to be paired for receiving software.

The Chinese firm has said it will be releasing Android 8.0 Oreo update for OnePlus 5T in early 2018. Last year, OnePlus had managed to release Android Nougat update for OnePlus 3 and 3T at the end of the year. However, OP5T users will have to wait until next year to receive the newest Android version.

OP5T owners can still taste the Android Oreo by enrolling for the open beta. OnePlus 5 users are scheduled to receive the Android Oreo open beta later this month. However, OP5T will be getting the open beta until late December.

OnePlus is aiming to release Android Oreo update as soon as possible to its smartphones. However, some manufacturers like Sony and Huawei have already launched their flagships with Android Oreo preinstalled. Other smartphone OEMs like Samsung and Nokia are also preparing Android Oreo updates for their smartphones.

Apart from great hardware, software support is also pretty important. HMD Global wants to make sure it meets both demands. The new Nokia licensee has started rolling out Android 7.1.1 Nougat update to the Nokia 6.

The Nokia 6 is the first Android phone from Nokia released this year. The Android 7.1.1 update first rolled out to owners in China last month and has now started hitting devices in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Apart from the update in software version, it also brings along May’s security patch.

The update is 1.85GB in size and brings new features such as a bunch of new emojis, gif support, and also homescreen app shortcuts. Nokia has also fixed some issues that have to do with USB and 4G networks.

The Nokia 6 has a 5.5-inch display with Gorilla Glass protection, 4GB/3GB RAM, 64GB/32GB ROM, and has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 on board. There is a 16MP rear camera, an 8MP camera for selfies, and a 3000mAh battery. You also get NFC, an audio jack, micro SD card expansion, dual speakers and Dolby Atmos audio.

The Snapdragon 835 is the flagship chip for the year no doubt, but for mid-range phones, the Snapdragon 660 is the chip to look forward to. The Qualcomm chip built on Samsung’s 14nm LPP node is expected to power phones like the Nokia 7 and Nokia 8.  Adding to that list is the OPPO R6051, a new device which has showed up on GFXBench.

The OPPO R6051 is a 5.5-inch phone with a 1920 × 1080 resolution. There is a Qualcomm octa-core CPU said to be the SD660 clocked at 2.2GHz and an Adreno 510 GPU under the hood. We were initially shocked to see that the Snapdragon 660 uses the Adreno 510 GPU and not the Adreno 512 as previously reported. But after comparing the results to that of the OPPO R9s Plus which is also powered by the same GPU, the difference is as clear as night and day.

The R6051 gets 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and surprisingly runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat. OPPO fans should be excited at that last bit seeing as the recently announced OPPO F3 Plus runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the OPPO R9, R9 Plus and F1 are also just getting updated to Android 6.0!!!

As is typical of OPPO, the cameras usually get all the attention. There is a 16MP sensor on the rear that sadly doesn’t shoot in 4K and a 20MP camera up front that also records only in 1080p. We can’t tell if any of these are dual cameras since benchmark sites don’t indicate that.

ZTE might be dealing with a lot right now like the recent fine by the US Government and the failure of its Project CSX phone, Hawkeye. In spite of that, they have managed to release some impressive devices that cater to the mid-range category. According to a sighting on GFXBench, it appears the communications giant has another device on the way.

The new phone, listed as ZTE Z986 was spotted on the graphics benchmarking site and features some interesting specifications. The new phone is for those who want that extra screen estate as it sports a 6-inch 1080p display. There is a Snapdragon 625 processor paired with an Adreno 506 GPU, so you should be able to enjoy playing games on it too.

The ZTE Z986 has 2GB of RAM and comes with just 16GB of storage. There is just one SIM slot, so it is possible there is a dedicated microSD card slot. The phone has a 12MP camera on the rear that can record 4K videos and a 5MP shooter up front for selfies.

Where the device does excel is in the OS. From the spec sheet, the ZTE Z986 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat. If the phone gets released in time, it will make it one of the few android phones to ship with Android 7.1.1 pre-installed. There is no mention of the battery capacity but for a screen as large as this, we expect nothing less than 3500mAh.

There is a possibility that the ZTE Z986 will be released in the coming weeks and if you are on the lookout for a phablet with the latest version of Android, you might want to consider it.

A new listing of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 on GFXBench shows the smartphone running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. Hence, it is likely that the phablet is likely to get the software update soon.

The Redmi Note 3 with 32 GB storage and 3 GB of RAM has appeared on GFXBench. The operating system of the handset is mentioned as Android 7.1.1. This indicates that the Chinese manufacturer is testing the smartphone with the latest Android version. There are no details available on the version of MIUI present on the device.

However, since some of the specs of the smartphone appears to be mentioned incorrectly, the news about Nougat update for Redmi Note 3 should be taken with a pinch of a salt. The GFXBench listing shows that the smartphone features a 5.7-inch full HD display, but it actually features a 5.5-inch screen. The processing speed of hexa-core processor is shown as 2.0 GHz, but in reality its processing speed is 1.8 GHz.

Xiaomi had released the Marshmallow update customized with MIUI 8 skin for Redmi Note 3 users in December 2016. Hence, it is unlikely to release the newer software so soon to Redmi Note 3 users. Moreover, Xiaomi has also released Redmi Note 4 to succeed Redmi Note 3. If the company released Android 7.1.1 Nougat for Redmi Note 3, it is likely that its successor would be also treated with the latest flavor of Android.

In the past, the Xiaomi Mi 4c was spotted on a benchmarking site Android 7.0 Nougat. Some of the other Xiaomi smartphones that are rumored to receive Nougat update soon include Xiaomi Mi 4c, 4i 4s, Mi Max, Mi Note, Mi Note 2, Mi 5, Mi 5s and Mi Mix. However, the Chinese company has not revealed any information on when will it be releasing Nougat update to its device.
