The models include the Huawei Mate 8, Huawei P9, Huawei P9 Plus, Honor 8, Honor V8, Honor Note 8 and the Honor Play 6X. This isn’t the first time the models would get EMUI 8 updates but the updates have not been across the board. This is the second time and it is still for some a limited time. The updates would be available from 10 am every day from July 9 to July 15. Curiously, just 5000 units of each model will get the upgrade daily for the seven days making a total of 35000 updates for each model will be available.

All those who use the affected models and are interested in the upgrades will be able to access the upgrade page using the member service app that comes along with their phones. After the application is confirmed, the new version can be found in system update section.

Considering Huawei system upgrade pattern, this update which is done using the membership app is basically similar to the OTA upgrade version in terms of functionality, stability, and compatibility. So, there is no fear of bugs on this version. The update brings the total number of Huawei models that have been successfully upgraded to Android 8.0 based EMUI 8 to 20. Before now, Huawei had pushed updates for 13 old models which include the Huawei P10, P10 Plus, Honor 9, Honor V9, Honor 8 Youth edition, Honor 7X, Huawei Nova, Nova 2, Nova 2 Plus, Maimang 6, among others. These are in addition to models like the Mate 10 series which was launched with Android Oreo as well as the Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro and Mate 9 Porsche edition.

However, this was also a major feature that was missing on OnePlus’ flagships, at least until now. But that’s going to change. OnePlus has just released a brand new teaser for its upcoming OnePlus 6 flagship and it kind of confirms that the new device will be waterproof.

Don’t you just hate it when you have to stop using your phone when it rains? So do we pic.twitter.com/WsWc4Mw3Yz

This is definitely welcome news for fans who desperately wanted this feature. Samsung and Sony flagships have always been waterproof but it came at a price. Their top-end models cost upwards of $700, which doesn’t exactly make them affordable. On the other hand, the OnePlus 6 is expected to retain the affordable price tag, which gives customers a solid choice for a waterproof / water resistant flagship without having to shell out a lot of money.

OnePlus 6 Olixar ExoShield Snap-on case

Unfortunately, the teaser doesn’t say anything about the IP rating of the handset. So, we don’t know whether it will be IP57 like the P20, or IP67 like the P20 Pro or even IP68 like the Galaxy S9. Irrespective of the rating of the new flagship, it does offer a sense of relief to buyers who don’t want to worry about accidental splashes ruining their $500+ smartphone.

Google releases security patches for its operating system every month and, as the Mi A1 has Android One installed, its operating system is supported directly by Google. This is why the device will always receive faster updates over all other Xiaomi devices.

The new update for Xiaomi Mi A1 weighs 440 MB and, besides the April security patch, it brings several other changes. According to the changelog, there are generic improvements in performances and several bug fixes. At the moment, the Mi A1 is the only Xiaomi device with Android One and it is also one of the best smartphones in terms of quality-price ratio.

It comes with a full metal unibody design and a 5.5-inch display (yes, it has bezels) showing images at a Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Under the hood, Xiaomi Mi A1 boasts an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a micro SD.

A similar thing happened a few days ago with the OnePlus 5, for which the company suspended the global roll out due to some bugs. HTC did not give any info about the issues encountered with the European update to Android Oreo on HTC U11. The issues may be related to European network carriers given that the problem is only in one region, but these are only speculations. HTC has asked U11 owners to have a bit of patience: the company will let us know more about the update as soon as it can.

The tweet comes from HTC UK and we think it should not take much time for the company to fix the issues. In the U.S. the update has been big, with a size of 1.28 GB, and it brought many changes and improvements. Together with the main features of Android 8.0 Oreo, there were some optimizations to system performances and also the security patch released by Google in the month of November. Obviously, the update of the HTC U11 comes with a new version of the user interface by the company: Sense UI.

When do you think the update to Android Oreo will start hitting the European units?

This will apply to both Huawei and Honor branded smartphones.

This hasn’t come to our surprise as the current EMUI 5/5.1 are based on Android Nougat (7.0). The source has stated that the EMUI 6 will provide a more ‘enhanced user experience’ in comparison to the preceding EMUI 5, which is certainly welcoming, even though EMUI 5/5.1 has already provided notable smooth experiences for both current Huawei and Honor users.

Yu Chengdong (Richard Yu) has also confirmed that Huawei is already working on Android 8.0 for its future EMUI, however, the source was not clear about what current devices will get the upgrade. We can speculate that the current latest devices should expect an Android 8.0 update, for example, Huawei Mate 9 and the Honor 9.

The CEO has also claimed that the EMUI 6 will run far smoother than Xiaomi’s MIUI 8, however, specifics were not exchanged in the conference. We currently know that the EMUI 5 comes with a large collection of features in comparison to stock Android Nougat, thus we are expecting the EMUI 6 to also pack a similar experience of mass feature choice. We will also expect Huawei to provide additional features into the upcoming EMUI 6 that Android 8.0 will also provide.

If we take Google’s several released developer previews of Android 8.0 as a base of our assumptions, we can predict the possible features that may come to Huawei’s EMUI 6. For example, the improved notification shade and picture-in-picture feature. A more notable improvement we expect to see in EMUI’s adaptation is improved battery consumption on Google’s Android 8.0.

As a result, the major changes we expect to see from EMUI 5 to EMUI 6 are likely to be the changes made from Android 7.0 to Android 8.0. Yu Chengdong hasn’t confirmed this; however, according to the source, Google is expected to release Android 8.0 “O” before the launch of Google Pixel 2 line-up, leading to the possibility of Huawei/Honor devices to come with Android 8.0-based EMUI 6 before the turn of this year.
